Problem People doesn't look at last post date and bump an out of date thread Possible solution As written in title. Maybe let the OP decide if the thread should autolock with a checked-by-default box on creation page?
Rarely, there are cases where there's a legitimate reason to bump a very old thread. I propose a different solution: a big-ass warning/confirmation dialog when bumping an old thread, possibly with a coin cost that goes up with thread age.
Agree with the huge ass warning sign before bumping ol' threads, should'a do the trick honestly.
This has been suggested quite a few times, I expect it to be the most sensible thing to do. There could be another method to take if wanted to mitigate random spambots from bumping threads... if you understand the words I'm about to use, a certain header or attribute must be sent in the post request to allow bumping of old threads. Thwarts none that are specifically targeting old threads on the site though

Good, but it should also have the bumping rule in a smaller font in the warning box too.
