I have a question. The rust cave is one solid mesh, or a few meshes. For example, the land and decorative elements are created together in 3d editor? Under the decorative elements is the land of the cave itself? Is the cave molded in the wicket of the tube and moved to the unit, and the 3rd facility was added by Level Designer?

Basing on this information there is closed pool of caves that are used to generate map.
So i think each cave CAN be one solid mesh, but i think they are divided into smaller pieces for optimization purpose.
Also maps are generated not created. Land is random and all the environmental models are just put in to fill the space.
