This game is incredible but you play many hours and after a time the server wipe and you lose everything. I belive if you add more itens, materials, ores and everything the game should be more rewarding and the wipe can be unecessary or less required.
More tiers of gear (items, weapons, armor) would only widen the gap between a naked and an end game player. Also, read the roadmap wipeless is a long way down the road but still planned.
The wipes I feel are necessary right now to help keep the game fresh. It also makes it easier for new updates to be added to the game and for everyone to experience.
However, there has been talk about some kind of "Wipelss Rust" on the Roadmap (see link below)

I am not sure how this will work, but it sort sounds like once the game is done there will be servers that will never wipe. You can force yourself to wipe starting from scratch, but I have heard talks that you will not being starting from scratch. You may get some kind of reward or something. Kind of like a prestige system. This may have to do with their could be multiple islands, and when you change islands you change servers.
