I have always took interest in building a base in an area that had strategical value whether it be the resources, convenient rad towns, caves for nodes etc. There are hills, valleys, marsh like waters that you can plot a base but it would be interesting to see more one entrance cliff sides, lakes with islands, hills with only one road up, to give bases more of a castle defense appeal, using the land to your advantage.
I agreed i always in favor of more unique geographic features. Rust is a good looking game, but unique geographical features add more spice to it.
I do like the idea of cliff side caves. They could be extremely small, maybe only able to fit a two by two. Though that could be abused by people continuing to build base outward.
I live in the Mojave desert, which kind of looks l areas in Rust, and I have a few ideas myself.
I like the idea of marshes. But what advantage wold they have? Why would someone want to build in marshlands? I would asume there would not be much buildable land. Also, it cold constantly rain or be very wet.
