I wanted to hear everybody's idea for what they want to add to rust
Personally I would add a new type of "Bow" It would be like the end-game variation of guns (AK, M249, etc), but for bows. Maybe like a compound bow or something similar to the Phantom from Battlefield 4, would have sights you can put on it, possibly modern arrows, etc.
Just my thought, would love to hear yours!
I like the idea of an end game bow.
For me, I'd like to see more storage options. Things like tool racks, seed bags, gun cabinets etc.
The idea is much like the fridge. The fridge can only store food and seeds, so why not have tool racks for tools, seed bags for farming goods and gun cabinets for guns?
The reasoning behind it is to add more options to base design, as well as make bases feel more home like.
I don't like everything being stored in chests. After so many years it gets bland.
yes I agree. you need separate boxes. for resources. individual boxes of ammunition cartridges. the same medicine. Well, the food. the water is stored in barrels. so it was possible to make order with other things. me this disorder strains. in the boxes. I thought maybe icons or cells with objects can be painted in different colors or give a frame of colors. around the perimeter of the cell.
I also have one idea to add npc animals.
Being able write on crates would make life so much easier.
I like the idea of molotov cocktails. Though since there is no glass (except the stuff you can craft magically) it could be a hallow clay call with burning oil inside it. It has the same effect as the flame arrow, just much shorter range.
Molotov's sound cool, but it would have no other purpose than raiding. And along with the glass thing, unless they add something like beer or a non-plastic item, Molotov's wont be added.
Hmm...you idea of bear bottles gives me another idea. I always like it when a game let's you make something from the trash you find. Like I love how you need tuna cans to male Tina can lamps. If beer bottles (or glass soda bottles) were added it would make a good excuse to make moltav cocktails. I wonder what other forms of trash could be used to make other things.
Manually operated, mountable turrets.
Maybe when electricity is introduced: Electrified Sheet-Metal walls/doors.
- Could potentially prevent ladders from being placed on outside sheet-metal walls and provide another reason to actually upgrade to them. Maybe force people to place mini generators on inside of walls and only allows it to electrify adjacent walls.
i would like to see a mountable turret/cannon or a weaponbench where you can modify and make your own weapon with components
Stop, Get Some Help
Some things that I would like to see possibly (some ideas were inspired by me seeing the roadmap)
The ability to make cage traps (small, medium, large) to trap NPC animals and players. Would be useful for trapping dangerous animals wandering nearby and you have no proper weapons to take it out yet, and ideal for keeping (if domesticating animals becomes a thing) potential future livestock/hostages alive for later.
We have "food" poisoning in-game already, but how about other ways to get poisoned by eating? Adding a different kind of mushroom will cause players to be more mindful of what they eat (maybe the new and safe ones can be brown/white in color, and the "bad" ones are red like they are in-game. Poisoning from these can lower health, affect vision (similar to rad poisoning) and/or impact movement. Players maybe could also collect these bad mushrooms to craft into potions or tip their weapons with them to cause even more damage to their enemies.
Animal NPCs will only appear in biomes where it makes sense to see them (no more arctic chickens or desert bears!)
Speaking of animal NPCs, maybe add some new ones to make bases in and travelling to different areas more interesting/challenging: snakes and jackrabbits in the deserts, crocodiles/alligators near the river/lakes, sharks and dolphins in the ocean surrounding the island, jellyfish/seagulls near the beaches/harbors, cougars in the mountain/arctic areas.
the ability to harvest, plant and grow some of the fruits we've found in crates (apples, berries) as well as the option to grow some other hardy vegetables as well
Once having to preserve food really comes into play, it would been nice to have the ability to make jerky from the meat we have on hand, or preservatives from the veggies/fruits we find/grow.
To help with comfort or to ward off the effects of being exposed to the cold/heat for too long, having the ability to make a makeshift heater or air-conditioner. I know there was recently a stone fireplace added around Xmas time but for some, the fireplace is either too big to place or it doesn't fit into the look of their base, especially if it's made of sheet metal and/or armored metal.
A way to turn low grade fuel into something of higher quality. The upside to this is that the fuel burns more efficiently (ideal for light sources, pump jacks, quarries and -maybe vehicles?) or is more combustible (great for weapons that rely on fuel to cause damage)
Been really thinking about the concept of electricity being brought into the game. Players could craft/salvage generators and solar panels (saw that there's a windmill coded but not fully implemented) to power light sources, consoles, and switches that control doors/gates/lights
Elevators (t2 and t3) can be crafted for the really tall bases or to quickly transports a group of players at once from one level to another. The standard elevator resembles a lift you'd find in a mineshaft and is grated. Anyone riding inside of it is potentially vulnerable to enemy fire. The deluxe version (maybe crafted from HQM, tech trash and gears as opposed to just sheet metal and/or metal frags, tech trash and gears) offers better protection.
A while back I suggested skulls should be stored on some form of a totem poll that you can erect outside your base. It would also link to a score board for the server (if killing is your thing).
The totem would get darker/bigger as you applied more skulls to it.
You don't have to use it, and accumulating too many skulls can be a bad thing as people then want to kill you.
Gives the game a bit of extra direction + post apocalyptic feel.
You are my bro. Good idea
More blueprints in boxes and barrels would be nice, along with recyclable blueprints so duplicates actually have a use besides just littering the world and gobbling precious server memory.
An actually usable and not worthless heavy armor set that doesn't stop you from aiming and actually lets you see your enemies(what I had in mind was a 2-3x bigger "visible" area with a more oval shape), and instead of just a flat-out complete movement speed penalty, disabling sprinting while still allowing you to walk at full speed would work just as well. Alternatively just set it to a 50% speed penalty and have the sprint make you move at normal walking speed.
And those are my two biggest cents. The heavy armor in particular has been on my mind for quite some time now.
just keep posting ideas and wasting time lol, the roadmap tells the ideas, and I bet facepunch is not waiting for 1000 another ideas because players don't like the game now, or just wan't some things made easier. They already having their hands full getting out of EA and finishing their vision of this game, besides fighting the rate of incomming ddos attacks.
That maybe, true but I do not think it hurts to express other items that and features that can be included into the game. For games to continue to survive depends on it's player base and support from it's developers. Some of the things on the roadmap are rather vague or open to interpretation. But that is just my point of view.
true, but if everything was clear on the roadmap, then people will schedule even more through the months when to play and when not, and besides that, this adds a certain tension. You never know exactly whats going to happen, what keeps people in for a longer time, and also adds some dissension in the community, what's a part of the fuel for pvp.
An example of this: If I knew lets say a year ago, that they would change the build system, I would have freaked out more and probaly quit rust, than I did once that update came out.
I already mentioned my intentions, just hard to filter the "I want this and this and this guys" from the ones that actualy do not complain and just have ideas about things ;)
Hmm...very interesting point of view, and one that I can appreciate. Adding a bit mystery is always fun.
Though I am a little confused. Are you saying that we should not submit ideas that are not related to the roadmap, or that there is likely no point to submitting them?
I won't hold back submitting ideas, I only tried to make it clear that most people wants things added or changed because they don't like some aspects, wants old stuff back, or new stuff changed more like the old ones.
And besides that, rust already has a lot of things they want to add themselves.
This combined makes it seems like everybody is expecting new items in the game every update because "other games also do that, and have more items and more fun".
Sometimes it just seems like people forget where facepunch is working on, and that adding all those things and ideas will take rust another 4-5 years to complete.
Things as ideas about the upkeep and build system for example. Yes, I like it mostly, yes it maybe needs some adjustment, but in rust roadmap this is already mentioned, and on that aspect rust already seems to know what they are gonna do with that.
How hard it might be, people should not forget that this is just a rough diamont, that's gonna be shaped in the next year, and complaining every time will not help them getting things changed.
To make the big story short: no, ideas are not bad, thats how I got my idea of the computer controlling camera's and turrets into a plugin. But the major part giving ideas, only gives ideas because they wont like multiple aspects of the game that got changed and finding the game "too much grind and running towards it's dead"(that guys that make duplicate posts, and posting shit on everything they wont like to hear). That type of guys annoyed me so much that filtering the good ones becomes harder ;p
I understand you frustrain on duplicate posts. When Rust was still in legacy I tried to manage a thread that consolidated everyone's ideas weapon and items. Whenever someone added an weapon or item suggestion to the thread, I would edit the first post to include the idea and the person backing it. It even got some sketches and 3d posted on it. It last for a few weeks, but as soon as it went to page 2 on the list of threads people started post duplicate threads.
While not exactly a "new idea" I do remember that in one of Shadowfrax's concept limbo videos that door traps (luke spikes falling when a door is opened) was a potential idea.
With the way building system is now, and the on going fight against honeycombing, the need to trick and fool potential raiders is even more important. So adding additional types of traps or ways to hide loot maybe a good idea.
What do you all think?
