No guns.
Rust becomes extraordinarily unfun when everyone around you is stacked with assault rifles and other advanced weaponry while all you have is your little revolver and waterpipe, if you're lucky.
To me, the most fun and rewarding combat in Rust is the simple and rudimentary. Things like hunting bows or wailing away at your opponent with a melee weapon. Although basic, they are a lot more fun and nuanced than a gun.
Naturally, when something like Ruin comes along in your life and you hear it's essentially just a medieval Rust my ears and other body parts perk up! M E D I E V AL, lads! Gimmie gimmie!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's really looking forward to hucking spells and flailing... flails... as opposed to gun fights, right? You don't have to answer because I already know. Me and you are a lot alike, kid.

NO GUNS? Perhaps... I would like to see it a lot more difficult to get guns if anything. Also bringing back the DECAY mechanic to RUIN would also be something I would like to see.

Apparently there are plans for some guns in Ruin. I wasn't aware when I posted though.

Are there going to be guns in Ruin?
• Guns have been confirmed by Petur, but they won't be the powerhouse we see in Rust and neither will they be Ak47s. Some form of guns have existed in medieval times and are more like what the Eoka Pistol is right now. Other examples can be taken from WoW and some magic will take some of the roles (Like the RPG being fireball magic).
I'm glad to see they're planning on making them more in line with what the Eoka Pistol is. I don't really think of guns when I hear 'Medieval', but doing some quick research into what they were like definitely makes me feel like they'll be a good edition to the game.
Medieval Weapons
Hand cannons sound like they would be a really fun edition as well as something that wouldn't at all be imbalanced. Same with the Arquebuses (new term for me).
Cannons would be a good splash aoe damage for base defense
or raiding
Decay option is evil. yet cleans the field. yet makes me wanna cry after gettin raided Since my frickin base is now gone. I think they should reduce costs for bases that are active, doors opened etc. and make actual inactive bases pay alot more for the decay , this way You get all happy faces. SO if implented into Ruin, do it t he right way. But rather have it not in Ruin. People shouldn't have to worry about things like this. They should be allowed to express themselves by building gigantic castles.
What you say about the melee combat and the bows , really agree with that , nothing so boring as getting a bolt randomly shot at you while you just have a rock and a torch freshly spawned from the beach. So much fun right.
I think magical craftable ammo would be nice. The Eoka pistol in rust already commands respect.....imagine it shooting a magical yogurt cannon into your face........amazing
Yes, that would be cool. I was just think about this kind of thing though, the idea of a sort of 'variable' crafting system where adding in different items produces different results... like throw in some ice shards with the ammo craft to make bullets that slow or have a chance of slowing.
man, this game has so much potential to be fucking awesome.
