Like some others I had the issue that when I died my game and steam crashes.
After looking through the forums I found one guy that had the solution, but I guess most people wont find his post, so here it is for easy access:
The issue is the Steam beta. Dont ask me why, but it works (at least for me).
Just go to your Steam settings and disable the STEAM (not Rust) beta.
After this youll need to restart Steam and then it shouldnt cras hanymore.

Death = Game Freeze
