When I opened the gold weapon barrel my game instantly crashed with the red text in the top left corner (seems to just randomly happen recently as well). When I re opened the game the barrel was gone and I had no new inventory items
The item is likely there but could just be a dupe considering the drops are random.

If it didn't actually give you an item, and it consumed the barrel, screenshot the above link results and send it to Facepunch Studios
Also include a link to your steam profile if you do end up having to put in a ticket.
Either that or it’s because you’re playing on Rust Staging Branch instead of Normal Rust to connect to Normal servers. Have had to explain this to a few people on my server that get kicked upon death
