Hello,
I am a big fan of RUST, with over 5500 hours.
I have a few ideas that could add longevity to the game, that also adheres to the developers ideas.
First and foremost, on Thursdays everyone logs in following the fresh wipe. Dead servers suddenly become active and new life is brought to the game. However lately, due to the nature of the grind for scrap, it often becomes a tedious way to spend your time. I would like to suggest a non-linear approach to the crafting system but also enable the solo and duo player base the opportunity to gear up faster and not be stuck in the stone age at the mercy of door campers and rad town campers alike. The scrap system should be a necessity in the creation of workbenches, in addition to weapons. For example, if a player would like to make a revolver, the said player would be required to create the workbench with X value of scrap. In addition to the normal materials required to make the revolver, scrap would also be required and would be required for each future revolver crafted. The value of scrap needed can also depend on the tier level of the item. All blue prints should be unlocked.
The XP system was too linear, but one aspect that I loved was the ability to gain XP from other players using the tools that you created. XP could then be used to add specialty skills like mining or woodcutting, which increases a better yield the more points you spec into it. With a system like this in place, it would allow for more friendly player interaction, trading and make shops more viable.
Lastly, imagine for a minute that you have a hankering to play RUST but its on a Monday, in the middle of a WIPE cycle and you haven't played since the last wipe. If it were me, I would prefer to wait until the wipe to be on a more even playing field. Other players feel the same, leading to server fatigue. But Imagine if you could join a server, and thrive at any time, with other players wanting to help you and incorporate your talents to take down a common enemy. I am talking about multi island play. If entire islands would refrain from toxicity to build their island up, use each others skill sets ( suggested above in a renowned XP spec system) and be able to take a fight to a neighboring enemy island. This would promote trade via shops and vending machines, player interaction, building, large scale PVP and PVE elements as well as give every person a unique ability to obtain a skill set necessary for the benefit of survival of their team/ island as a whole. For Example, if I were to add earned XP points into a hunter's perk, I could yield more meat and leather necessary to feeding and clothing my island's community. If you specialize into woodcutting, you would yield more wood etc.
Make it a teambuilding game to ultimately make a raft/boat, fortify and defend your island, and raid an enemies island without the need for a grind to win game. What do ya'll think?
