• Quick question.... why are there scientists suddenly spawning along roads?

There's been no mention of this, yet our community server (with Scientists enabled for Military) suddenly has pick wielding scientists spawning near junk piles. Not one word of warning, nothing to let admins this was going to happen. Communication people!

Yeah, saw them too today. Thankfully they barely can see you. Probably just an experiment, because i have no idea why scientists should protect random pile of junk with some barrels.

In the last devblog OR community update they indeed mentioned that they are now working on getting them on roads also, so they can work towards the proces of making scientists roam from town to town. The (startup) command to enable scientist where tought to only make them spawn in the military tunels, but if you watch the command line you need to enable it, it's called "squadmanager.squad_disable" you can set to true or false. No town bounded to the line, so when they spread an update to enable and test them, you will also get that on your server because you used the vallue they gave to make all server owners able to also test it out on their server and give them a sneak-peak of what they can expect. What I do as server owner that's running rust servers for over 3-4 years, is to just have patience. If I was in your position and finding out how this is, so be it, I used a command for something they did not add yet, so all blame go's to myself. The second thing is subscribing to the rust twitter accounts, they post every little tweak and update out there. It can feel like reading chinese sometimes, but after a while you should be able to get what they do ;)
Here's a good reason for not adding it to all servers by default: When when enabled the scientist on our servers, it tanked them. Some type of memory leak occurred and all available memory was consumed after 3-4 hours after enabling the command. The server went into a forced restart loop afterwards. Patience is a best practice for a game in development :-)
