- Introduction -
What is Skeestorm?
Skeestorm is a relaunch done by a group of older Serious Australian Roleplayers, they have chosen to relaunch, but not just choosing a map, handing out ranks and pressing start. This is essentially a full relaunch of Half-Life 2 Roleplay in Australia. This server was created in order to create a roleplay enviroment, free of minges and with the full ability to go where roleplay takes you. We encourage everyone to enjoy their time on the server and take part in the various events happening around the map.

Our current server is Serious Half-Life 2 Roleplay which runs off a heavily modified and customized Clockwork, with various modifications to remove the overall overused feeling of Clockwork. We are currently using City 18 V2, but have heavily modified it through the use of props and additions to the skybox. That along with our custom Day/Night and Weather cycle creates a truely unique experience and insight into the Half-Life 2 Roleplay.

All roleplay servers require the use of lore, whether that be the strict and to the letter lore, ranging to a more lax version which incorperates many changes. The lore which this roleplaying server abides by is correct, in the notion that it does not break any set and clear rules of the Half Life 2 Universe, and still abides by logic in order to ensure that the best lore base is put in place. As an example, our CCA (Combine Civil Authority) system does not include divisions, but instead incorperates the use of protection teams, each team governs itself with rules and boundaries, without adopting different roles withing the CCA, as all unit roles are shared.
We have opted out to the loyalty points system, as there is little to no evidence of it in lore, as well as the fact that we wish to have a citizen's record create more roleplay, as their past is examined, and not simply a number which citizens could just run around collecting more points to boost.
As a server, we are open ended in regards to roleplay, and do not wish to limit or dictate the roleplay of people. While some servers put harsh restrictions on the roleplay people can do, we are happy to accomadate people roleplaying as they wish to do so, provided they stay within the lore.

We have a dedicated Admin Team which devotes their time to keeping the server up and running smoothly. Over the last few weeks, they have joined in daily meetings with the Development Team to create the Unique experience that we offer here today. Our admins have both backgrounds in Serious and Non-Serious servers, allowing us to quickly identify any sort of problem causing players and if they are willing to listen, sit down one on one and explain the roleplay to them. Our admin team strives to run in the background of the server to ensure that players can focus on roleplay with out problems.

Our Development team is comprised of a both a dedicated but also talented group of people who have worked hand in hand with the Admin Team to create the unique experience of Skeestorm. They have worked hard to change the look and feel of Clockwork and Roleplay. Over half of our large plugin collection is purely our own, ranging from custom clothing to crafting, these additions we have added are built by roleplayers for roleplayers.

Our coders have spent a large amount of time modifying the Clockwork: HL2RP game mode in order to create a better roleplay environment for all players on the server.
Scavenging & Scrapping - This gives a character the neccesary junk item when they use an item. For example, drinking a Breen's Water can will give your character an 'Empty Blue Can' item, which can be turned in to the metropolice for a small number of tokens, or scrapped and turned into salvaged materials, which is used in...
Crafting - Our comprehensive crafting system makes use of a number of techniques to have multiple possibilities for crafting certain items out of said salvaged materials. Crafting items opens huge doorways in roleplay which adds to the potential of it. As such, we have taken the ideas such as Crafting Systems that are in place in other servers and modified not only the way crafting is done, but the entire fundamental which it is used in Half-Life 2 Roleplay.
Weaponry - We have modified certain weapons for your benefit in order to make them reasonable and usable for HL2RP, and ensuring they are not overpowered or unsuitable to the gamemode.
News Terminals - These terminals display news that can be read simply by walking up to it. You don't need to open a menu or anything, it will display news that is determined by the CA or the City 18 High Command.

Visible Player Heights - This is a modification that allows the server administrators to set your character's OOC height. Setting this value visibly increases of decreases the height of your character, which can be matched up to your character's in-character height for a more immersive experience.

Fonts - We have changed the fonts used by the gamemode to better ones.
Clothing - We have added a variety of clothing and accesories to the server which allows you to customize your character's appearance both ICly and OOCly. There are over 1000 different combinations of the clothing items.
We use one of the first weather and day/night scripts in Garry's Mod 13, built solely for Roleplay, it still to this day stands unreleased to the public and stands above any other publicly released weather/daynight system out there.

Sounds like it might have potential but how much freedom is there for citizens? I tend to ignore it when almost everything is contraband or ban worthy.

Well, as a citizen, no actual roleplayed actions are ban worthy, provided they stay withing regular Serious Roleplay rules: IE, you can't magically fabricate a minigun and RP shooting down people on the street.
And we have focused on making sure that for the things we have coded in, there is always a portion of it that is not Contraband or illegal, within reasonable bounds of course, so that you can enjoy more of the script regardless of what you are roleplaying as.

Thankyou for this, the SpecOps civil protection units in other roleplaying servers didn't really make a lot of sense in the half life universe.

lol what
the metropolice ranking structure was fine beforehand

It varies from server to server, but quite often you had these leet uber COBRA and SKULL style groups with advanced chrome and LED light weapons and armor, which doesn't make a lot of sense since civil protection are meant to be the lowest level soldiers underneath the trashuman troops. It isn't canonically correct to have that since, as Marc Laidlaw has explained, the metro police are just thugs who sign up to bully other people in return for slightly nicer living conditions.
I'm all for changing the canon slightly to make it more playable, but having all these super powerful ranked up cps just removes the whole central theme that they too are meant to be oppressed and controlled by the higher level Overwatch, and instead just makes them seem like extremely powerful jailors outside of all confinement and limitation.

if they are alone then grab a gun and take them hostage, killing them (resulting in a pk) is bonus points

I tried that. Me and a group of people formed a gang and started ambushing cps when they were alone and punching them to death. We were able to do this for all of two seconds before the cps magically knew where we were and that we did the killings even though we never left anyone alive. There was of course no rp way to get guns without making a ticket on a forum.
That's a bit besides the point anyway, since it's not the overpowered-ness of the cps that I'm talking about. It is literally against the canon and themes of the half life games to have these SpecOps style civil protection.
I'm talking about where you have entry-level cps with maybe a stunstick and default armor, and you have to work your way up to being in the super cool 'GHOST' squad with slick carbines and chrome armor. It goes against the canon and makes the whole thing into a silly boy's club. It really only exists so that the admins can give their friends made-up positions of power over other people in the same group.
Don't worry, you won't see any of that spec ops bullshit here.
I suppose it's alright, considering that people actually role-play on this server. I've noticed in a lot of clockwork servers that people just don't role-play outright, and that's not really good.
Post has some fancy graphics, I guess.

If I recall correctly, pretty much every Overwatch uniform has some life sign checking thing and it automatically alerts when wearer is killed. I may be wrong though.
I mean, doesn't it play an alert in HL2 when you kill CP?
Trusted my Facepunch instincts and pressed a box on it.
Holy shit 18 fps
How can someone play in the server
