So, this is yet another Paradox-inspired forum RP, largely influenced by Sobotnik’s Creation of Centuries, but this time it’s set in a fantasy world, filled with your standard, cliche, run-of-the-mill fantasy elves, orcs, and dwarves. While some of you may argue that this kind of fantasy setting was run into the ground, it would still put a fresh spin on this kind of forum games and hopefully make it interesting enough not to go down before reaching turn 1. You may pick among Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Goblins and Orcs and make them into a civilization in your own image. It would be fun to see something new and interesting like oriental elves or tropical island dwarves.
Occasionally a massive event, typical of epic fantasy stories, will take place, like a dragon attack, a necromancer gathering a large army of undead, a demon invasion, etc. Also, since this is not like Earth, I will personally tell you about discoveries, local flora and fauna and small events that happen in each of your countries, to create that special epic fantasy feel. You may find a tomb of an ancient hero, or discover a new, magical plant that is very valuable, but endemic to a small island in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Who knows what awaits you after the next bend?
To the guys who already play these sorts of games, you know the drill. To any newcomers, welcome! Ask other players or myself (add me on steam if needs be) about setting up your country and playing.

Biomes/climate:

(I’ve spent an ungodly amount of effort on these, so if you guys abandon it after turn 1 I’ll hunt down each and every one of you and force feed you an Encyclopedia Britannica World Atlas)
The game starts in Year 0 of The First Era. A great comet was sighted in the skies of the planet, and everyone interpreted it as a sign, with many ancient empires crumbling, while other, more primitive societies were inspired by it to go on the path of progress. Some elven sages even say that the return of this comet will signal the end of the world.
Your society has just figured out the secrets of agriculture and/or animal domestication and is on it’s way to become a proper civilization. Each turn will last for a 100 years, with the amount of time passing each turn slowly decreasing (after a few turns each next turn will be 50 years, then 25, etc.).
The races:
You have to choose one. Since classical fantasy is inherently racist, they all excel/fail spectacularly in certain aspects, these being:
Avg. life expectancy: How long does an average representative of the race live if not killed prematurely by a random demon invasion
Population growth: How fast they reproduce and are eager to spread out across the map. High score of this is not always a good thing, as it may cause overpopulation.
Technology: How good they are at making machines and understanding complex notions, influences technological advancement
Magic ability: How good they are at waving magic sticks and chanting incantations, influences magical research.
Physical characteristics: How strong, agile, sturdy, adaptable and possibly ripped they tend to be.
HUMANS:
Chances are, you are one. Have the best technology score, but are pretty mediocre otherwise.
Avg. life expectancy: ~65 years
Population growth: ***
Technology: *****
Magic ability: ***
Physical characteristics: **
ELVES:
Your typical haughty pointy-eared effeminate smug bastards. Have the best magic ability and are pretty dexterous, but due to high life expectancy they aren’t particularly motivated to reproduce and spread.
Avg. life expectancy: ~500 years
Population growth: *
Technology: ***
Magic ability: *****
Physical characteristics: ****
DWARVES:
Short, stocky people, usually with a lot of facial hair. Strong, inventive, but not too magically gifted
Avg. life expectancy: ~100 years
Population growth: ***
Technology: ****
Magic ability: **
Physical characteristics: ****
ORCS:
Big, burly and ugly mofos, often viewed as savages by more “civilized” races (a.k.a. sissies). Have the best physical characteristics, and who needs magic and technology when you can bend horseshoes like they’re made of silly putty?
Avg. life expectancy: ~50 years
Population growth: ****
Technology: **
Magic ability: *
Physical characteristics: *****
GOBLINS:
Orcs’ smarter cousins. Breed like rabbits, but make for very poor 1v1 fighters.
Avg. life expectancy: ~50 years
Population growth: *****
Technology: ****
Magic ability: ***
Physical characteristics: *
LIZARDFOLK:
They can be strong, cunning, and adequately Gifted, and they are many. They are cold-blooded, though, and get absolutely rekt in cold climates.
Avg. life expectancy: ~100 years
Population growth: ****
Technology: ***
Magic ability: ***
Physical characteristics: ***
The rules:
1. Send in a PM to YogiTheWise, with the following title: "Countryname: Turn X"
2. DON'T write turnsheets that are too long. It may be tempting, but unless I can copypaste it in, turns take longer.
3. DO write roughly 10 lines (of commands) in your turn.
4. The PM you send to me will take the following form for the first turn:
Starting location: (You will mark down on the map where you wish to start)
Flag: (image is 250x150 pixels)
Country name:
Race:
Capital City:
State religion:
You must also send in your commands:
Technology: (You give me 3 technologies to research, and one of them will be randomly selected to be researched. It should be noted, that technological advancement will be much slower here than in CoC, and will be tied to your race)
Magic: (You give me one field of magic you want your sages/shamans/conjurers/wizards/warlocks/mugwumps/etc. to study, e.g. Elemental Magic, Healing, Necromancy, and next turn your civilization makes some random advance in that field, like Magic Missile/ways to magically treat burns and bruises/raising undead killer rabbits, etc.)
Military: Everything involving your military goes here. Also includes expansion on the map via force.
Domestic affairs: Everything inside of your countries borders.
External affairs: Everything outside of your countries borders. Includes expansion on the map via peaceful methods.
Copypaste: Type down here what you want me to include in the turn (such as backstories, your religion/culture/lore/news/etc) that will be pasted into the turn.

Is it cool if I copy/paste the Gondor wikipedia page but change the name to Trondor?
[editline]17th January 2014[/editline]
Sounds cool enough though, suppose I'm in, if it doesn't die like pretty much every other RP
Is it cool if I copy/paste the Gondor wikipedia page but change the name to Trondor?
No.
No.
Drats!
[editline]17th January 2014[/editline]
Oh wait is this going to end up like CoC where everyone has ironclads and gatling guns by 1200 AD?

This is fantasy after all, they usually barely get to muskets or just use magic instead of electricity.

Tbh there wasn't really the "dark ages" in CoC so everything advanced by about 800 years.
Tbh there wasn't really the "dark ages" in CoC so everything advanced by about 800 years.
Yeah there I was trying to make mail and breed destriers while the Greeks and Turks were rolling out bombards

This is why in this game sometimes your general population will turn wary of your newest scientific/magical advancements and stifle your progress for a turn.
Really now, Sobbo, come to think of it, you should've had that in CoC.

It was different.
CoC would have had this had the following happened:
Everybody didn't gank the Romans
People didn't deliberately share tech with one another and made tech alliances
People didn't have hindsight

Goblin go
A fantasy RP sounds really cool, I hope more people join.
I'll join as some elves.
Goblins.
Oh man, I had a map made for one of these and everything, all fantasy and shit, and everyone I asked just said "no too many RP we don't need more besides lol who likes fantasy"
Whatever, hopping aboard as humans.
But... FANTASY IS ALL THERE IS! FANTASY IS LIFE.
[editline]18th January 2014[/editline]
Yogi, have you gotten my PM? Not sure if it sent or not, new to the forums here and have no clue where I'd go to check that.
RP's do well if they have the following:
Somebody who makes more than 5 turns
Generally its world ranging, you don't need a lot of deep knowledge of lore or history to get into it
At least 5 people playing
For sure, I'm really excited about this.
time to play as rock dust covered short people
Edit: I changed my mind have fun
So, are we RPing here or a new thread?
So, are we RPing here or a new thread?
Here ofc, I just need to compile it all into one neat post and submit it.
Okay. :)
I want Elves! Yeah Elves.
I want Elves! Yeah Elves.
You damn hippies aren't fit for ruling the planet, you can't grow trees everywhere!
Turn ETA: Tuesday.
New rule: if you want to play as an already established and somewhat advanced country you can totally do so, but you will not get new tech for the first few turns. Apparently some people don't think that playing as Neolithic dirt-farming elves would be much fun.
Don't forget the mule herding Goblins! :D
I might have based my elves too much off the Lord of the Rings ones, Ah well :V
Well, I'd say my religious zealots are fairly primitive. Dunno how advanced my turn made them seem.
Considering joining as dorfs
