From 2013 on, the global economy started to look a bit better. People got employment again, and advances in technology enabled countries to buy surpluses of oil and other commodities from exporters. Strengthened economic ties caused peace between nations, but not for long. As people had better economic conditions, they had more time to devote to various political movements.
One of these movements that was popular in Europe was quests to unify ethno-linguistic groups. One such group where unification was sought after was the Germanic nations, particularly West Germanic Nations (German speaking and Dutch speaking). The Germans absorbed Austria, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein, which were all almost completely German speaking nations. The bordering French, Polish and Italian governments were alarmed by this, afraid that the new Greater Germany would re-enact World War 2. In response they withdrew their troops from NATO and set them ready to defend against a German invasion. The French and Italian governments formed a closer alliance as a result of their cooperation. Conflicts like this eventually led to the demise of NATO and the EU, and caused nations to grow as ethnic unification movements did, and then bordering nations felt the need to group up.
A movement of the Middle East was extremist Islam. Many countries already had Islam in their government, and some were extremist, such as Iran. As the power of the West fell, extremist movements and governments were not deterred or destroyed by the US or European nations. Unions of extremist nations formed, and eventually melded. As this was happening, Israel became increasingly fearful, and in an effort of reconsolidation invaded Gaza and the West Bank as well as the Sinai Peninsula and the Christian part of Lebanon.
A third movement was the resurgence of Communism. The Chinese government supported the idea that the Communist elements of their society had caused the economic prosper, and slowly returned to old ways. At the same time they sent heavy aid to North Korea to increase their military and economic strength, and forged alliances with Vietnam and Laos and encouraged them to return to Communism and spread it through Indochina.
The movements of Communism and extremist Islam have cut off oil supplies to Western nations for about 10 years now, causing a distaster for the US, with the rest of the Western nations close to running out of oil.
Who will you choose? An Islamist nation with good acces to oil? A Communist nation with dominance in East Asia and a readyness to expand and spread Communism? A Western nation with a strong military, but with the need to get a source of imports quick? Or a coalition that has unified in response to expanding nations around it? The choice is yours.
TL;DR: Ethnicities in Europe have united, NATO and the EU have broken down, Islamism and Communism have risen in Asia and cut off oil and cheap manufacturing supplies. Either pick a Communism or Islamic nation that wants to expand, try to resist the growing nations, or try to get oil for your Western country.

[b]Game Mechanics[/b]
Each country has a military strength rating and a self sufficiency rating. Self sufficiency helps your country not be dependent on cheap manufacturing and oil from other countries. You get 10 points to spend each turn. You can spend points on increasing the quality of your military, which increases your rating by 1% for each point, with a minimum of 1 gained. Having conscription enacted (a move which may upset your population) will grant you a 2% increase for each point. You can spend points on self sufficiency, which increases your self sufficiency by 1 point for each.

If the main idea behind this game is nationalization, then Russia should look different with it many nationalities inside the country.

Good play
I realized that the flaw in my system was that countries like China have a huge population but they don't make as much money, and therefore pay as much taxes. I also realized that I assigned starting military numbers based on how populous and wealthy the nation would be, which basically determines its ability to field a force. Therefore I've removed recruiting and quality and just made it spending money towards your military. One point towards your military will increase it by 2%.

Offers an alliance to Romania, which they decline due to being under the influence of the New Roman Empire.
Forms an alliance with the Greater German Republic. Offers to trade resources, money and troops for various Austrian territories, which the Germans decline due to none of the territories having a West Slavic, or even Slavic majority.
Begins selling supplies to all Slavic nations, although all 3 South Slavic nations decline due to seeing the West Slavs as 'double dealing' in the war, and ends up only selling to Russia.
The government publically supports Panslavism and posts propaganda supporting it. Due to this, it becomes more popular in the country. The government officially accepts all Slavic languages, including the interlanguage languages Slovio and Slovianski.

The self sufficiency of the nation goes up by 20 due to Baltic oil.
Invest into better education and encourage family breeding, giving the families with childs many advantages. ;The said oil should be refined here too, and the final product sold to ourselves and neighbor countries. ; Encourage white people to come to Lithuania, by making the immigration of blacks much much harder. Same with muslims. Also make the law that if someone wants to be here, they should respect our culture and not try to change it or it will be death sentence against them.
The many changes cause quite a large rebellion, with 10 points of military strength being lost fighting it down. However, some citizens believe the propaganda and some comply out of fear.
