It's actually called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it's not CoD6 or CoD4:MW2. Modern Warfare is a different branch of the series.

No, since it Call of Duty 4 came out, that's how it was. So, it's Call of Duty 5: World at War, then Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2.
It's still a sequel.
