I had the idea of setting up a private DayZ server and soon opening it up to Facepunch. As it is now, its up and running but I'm still adding vehicles, more buildings, etc.
As of now the server is running the following:
Modified Taviana Mission - Increased view distance, no fog, no overcast.
rMod - Allows usage of banned weapons and vehicles that DayZ restricts.
=BTC= Logicstics Script - Lift cars with certain helicopters and load things into certain vehicles.
Over 200 vehicles on the east island alone, aswell as some added military buildings over the map.(might be too many vehicles but walking for hours isn't fun either)
For now thats it. I plan to try and get Namalsk's bloodsuckers on Taviana soon aswell.
As it is now you will have to use Tuungle(Hamachi sucks balls) to connect. This can weed out possible hackers and douchebags because its a little more effort to join but we all know nothing stops a determined asshole. Until I am able to rent a server out, Tuungle is the only way at the moment.
I would like to have the server bandit free because I myself just enjoy playing the game without the worry of having some asshole that is hunting me and being killed but as that doesn't mean I won't disallow it completely. I fully understand that you get to that one point in the game where you get fully geared up and there is nothing to do at that point. My ideas to solve this are either add some AI to fight that aren't zombies or have a certain time to allow killing/wars.
I feel I should also mention this: HACKERS WILL BE DEALT WITH. I WILL NOT TOLERATE HACKING ASSHOLES
If there is anyone with being an admin on a DayZ server, let me know
What are your thoughts on this Facepunch? Suggestions?
I'll join you, just reinstalled arma2/day z mod
but uhh a way to connect would be pretty useful

It's not open yet, still adding and fixing some things. I was just asking for feedback on the server, if anyone would be interested.
I will update the OP once I'm ready and all seems okay.
Ooh, well in that case, as long as hackers will be taken care of should they arise, and since thats going to be highly unlikely considering how private the server will be IMO, should be good. I personally find the more vehicles part better too. only thing i can think of is..I have no idea how tuungle works :v:
This should get interesting.
I would like to join, I have 2 "friends" I survived with today.
Also Raven why no passworded server?
I think the fact that we are using Tuungle, we would have a password
I would love to join, Let me just reinstall Arma 2, OA, and DayZ.
Yeah open this up plz i wanna play on a non shit server ;-;
Bandit free = lame.
The whole atmosphere comes from walking/driving/flying/idk with the fear that some one has got your head lined up with their barrel.

I agree with you, it can add a sense of paranoia to the game which makes it interesting. Like I said, I don't plan the enforce the bandit free rule, its just some people get really excessive with it.
instead of bandit free, you should just make it a rule to not kill anybody without interaction. (I.E. robbing, backstabbing)
I would definitely play the server then, because people just camping in the woods sniping passers by without hesitation is why I stopped playing DayZ.
Tbh if you are able to keep this running well and well moderated I'd be willing to donate towards it
Tbh if you are able to keep this running well and well moderated I'd be willing to donate towards it
It will be well moderated.
everytime someone opens a server they just ban anyone that kills them. i can already tell you'll do that considering your opinion about bandits.
I would love to join this.
The best part of DayZ is getting into a tense firefight with bandits or trying to kill somebody.

This sounds great.
On the matter of bandits, I'm fine with those that roam about, hunting players. As long as they move about themselves. I hate the kind of bandits that just settle on top of a tall building with a high-powered sniper rifle and just... sit there, waiting, while they watch a video on their other monitor.
Even if I have decent gear, and traveled far, I don't really care when I get killed. Suddenly, no more gear. The fun starts again. No worries, because dying then doesn't matter at all.
If this server becomes a reality, I'll play quite a bit on it. I love teaming up with people, getting a partybus started.

With that attitude why join any servers at all

Bans should not be handed out for being a bandit or killing someone(e.g. an admin). It's something I wanted to discuss with Raven but I forgot to... Not entirely to sure yet as to how we'll go about having admins as we should have at least 1 for every few timezones to make sure that there isn't any hackers or such but at the same time, I don't want to rush people in giving them the highest authority without getting to know them either.

It won't happen, I've been victim to that sort of thing before(More like taking an admins vehicle). I like the suggestion HybridTheroy made, that sort of thing would be preferred. Either way, it doesn't matter how I feel towards certain things, It's how the player feels so I listen to the players . A players thoughts/opinions are just as valid as the admins are in my opinion.
Bans should not be handed out for being a bandit or killing someone(e.g. an admin).
Agreed, handing bans out for that sort of thing is over the top. Bans should just really be for the hackers.
I think the fact that we are using Tuungle, we would have a password
Well the password is so we don't have to use it.
And for one this is what Arma 2s remote connection is for.
You can hide you server from the list and give the IP and password out, and people use the remote connect to get the server.
Well they both sound good, I just want to play :-(
Sorry for the long delay. Dayz doesn't seem to wanna work on windows server 2003 which is what my machines run so i've just gotten the dedicated dayz package from vilayer. Unfortunately it apparently can take up to 24 hours for it to be set up so i am still waiting on it. However, I will be setting up a forum for us to use soon as well. Would anyone be interested in having a voice server? If so, which is most preferred?

I think a thread in Games in Progress would do just fine. I don't think a forum would be necessary.
And Mumble has served us well when US133 was still a bastion of partybusses and cars blasting Ride of the Valkyries as they drove through Cherno.
I'll join in. Sounds fun as long as there are no hackers.

Mumble/TS3
I'd play. I'll keep watching this thread.
Mumble/TS3
We decided we're going to use mumble. As for the server... well let's just say that I am quite pissed at Vilayer currently. they say the servers shouldn't take more then 24 hours to be set up, which I really don't understand why it should take so long but whatever, I'm willing to accept that. Except it's been over 24 hours. i tried submitting a ticket and still have not heard back. I tried calling their support and no one is even there... in any of the departments... So I'm giving them until tomorrow (being nice and saying they all have off on Sundays).
Anywho, Raven has been workin on vehicle spawns and such and iirc, he has all the coords and such set up :)

By calling their support did you mean these -
TS3: ts3.vilayer.com
Skype (Johnny): capecodcaper NOTE: I work during daytime US hours and I will get to you ASAP!
Skype (Lee): lee.netarus
Skype (Ian): ian.thmpson

I mean i tried looking on Teamspeak, which no staff was on, and tried calling both the UK and US support numbers, and tried each department on each country's number.
