Introduction:
It's the late 20th century, and you find yourself the leader of one of the world's few true nations, surrounded by city states and agricultural communities. In this world, there is no such thing as a nuclear bomb, and no nation has reached space, but all other technological advances are present. You are tasked with leading your nation to triumph over the coming decades.
Rules:
1. Turns will be posted on Fridays. If your turn is not sent by the time I post, you will be skipped, and your nation will suffer as a result. If all turns are sent early, the turn will be posted early, but the deadline will always be the following Friday.
2. Causing drama and being disrespectful to other players will result in immediate ejection from the game. Don't test me on this.
3. The game is intended to last until the year 2000, with each turn symbolizing a year. Every nation that reaches 2000 is a winner. The game will end early if the players vote to end it (a single winner is declared,) if all nations involved are in shambles (everyone loses,) or if a world war involving 3/4ths of players concludes with a winning side (winning side declared victorious.)
4. If you are ejected or defeated with your nation intact, it will become an NPC. NPCs will also arise if too many players are vying for one city's attention, or if a player releases one as an allied puppet state.
5. Expansion occurs automatically every 3 turns, but you are allowed to use military annexation on stubborn territory. Automatic expansion is based on your nation's region of influence, which is shown on the map as unclaimed territory with hatched lines in your nation's color. Your diplomacy can be used to expand your nation's region of influence, contract it, focus it, or even target a neighbor's region of influence.

Kingdom of Benelux - Salricci
Government Type: Constitutional Monarchy
Status: This quiet and civic-minded kingdom on the coastline northeast of France has not seen combat in more than a century, and its well-conducted finances and low tax rates have lead to some of the highest standards of living the world. Education is a high priority and students are given a liberal base of studies which leaves them well-prepared for the future. Few conflicts arise between this nation and its neighbors, and Benelux's diplomats are well respected deal-brokers. Good thing, because the military is not equipped with fully-modern equipment, and the officers are poorly trained and disciplined.
Economy: Due to rising education standards and a unionized workforce, the kingdom is undergoing a temporary recession as laborious industries are replaced with service jobs. Its economy is expected to "turn the corner" by the middle of the decade.

Cuba - Sobotnik
Government Type: Socialist Dictatorship
Current Head of State: Prime Minister Fidel Castro
Status: Castro took power in Cuba nearly two decades ago, and shows no signs of letting go after reforming all levels of society. Originally a self proclaimed Marxist-Leninist, Castro has in recent years relented on some economic issues, allowing his citizens to start businesses and trade freely for goods and services. The government still insures that all people have food on their plate and a roof over their heads, although with steadily rising enthusiasm for internationalism and commerce, more reform may be in order.
Economy: Cuba has long been a successful exporter of agricultural products such as sugar, and manufactured goods like the famous Cuban cigars. With relatively efficient government oversight, the country is expected to see growth during the 1970s, although the new free market influence is a wild card.

Czechoslovak Republic - Damian0358
Government Type: Parliamentary Republic
Current Head of State: Jan Jaromír
Status: A free and friendly nation in the heart of Europe, the Czechoslovakians have made themselves a major trading partner with their neighbors and a meeting place for businesses throughout the continent. The government is known for emphasising pan-Slavism, the idea that the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe are a single large nation, and that the various states dividing them could and should work together to unite them.
Economy: The Republic has a dense, multicultural and well-educated population, yet lags behind its northern neighbors in industrial production. Technology is expected to drive economic growth during the decade.

Nazi Dictatorship of Northern France - Eli45
Government Type: Fascist Dictatorship
Current Head of State: Messire Jean Walter
Status: Northern France is simply a very bleak place to live. The government, with its invasive military, controls the country's affairs with an iron fist, utilizing heavy taxes to help build offensive-capable armed forces. The majority of funds go toward land-based weaponry, often neglecting its undersized navy. In past conflicts, Northern France has forced POWs to construct government and military buildings, and it shows no sign of stopping that practice as the disco era dawns. The people haven given up on political change, and absolute order is maintained on the coast of Normandy.
Economy: It is unknown how much money Northern France has obtained by plundering the personal wealth of its political enemies, but it is clear that industry is not producing enough to sustain its high levels of government spending, and businesses have little interest in its shores. Things must either change quickly within the French domain or the fascists will need to find new sources of plunder.

Alexandrian Macedonia - Broguts
Government Type: Absolute Monarchy
Current Head of State: King Aleksandar Akhileus
Status: Recently rocked by the rise of the young Aleksandar to the throne, the whole country has become infatuated with ancient glory, and a cult of personality has developed around the new leader. Although the nation's infrastructure, military, and industry are lacking in terms of modern technology, the newly assembled government ministers have introduced lofty plans to pull the nation toward modernity. The people, however, are more interested in the rising wave of patriotism that threatens to spark ethnic hostilities. On the other hand, the government's positions on personal matters are extremely liberal.
Economy: Macedonia's inadequate education system and infrastructure are both challenges that will hold it back from its goal of modernization, but with the proper moves, Macedonia could become an economic powerhouse, and smart investors are already trying to get in on it.

Mardylonyea Union - IPK
Government Type: Democratic Communism
Current Head of the State: Slavman Grugmaryn
Status: A turbulent nation strung along the coast of the Black Sea, the Union relies on a powerful navy to ferry troops around its sometimes poverty-stricken territories to prevent crime and terror elements from interfering with daily life. While agriculture is this nation's main source of income, a small enclave of scientists based in the nation's top university have excelled in medical research and technology over recent years, and
the reform-minded, democratically-elected government has made great strides in improving the nation's infrastructure and education, all in hopes of one day turning Mardylonyea into a major regional power.
Economy: Recent efforts to improve shipping ports along the Bosphorus has attracted the patronage of Istanbul, now the nation's wealthiest city, which has allowed this small power to extend its influence over the Turkish peninsula. As new labor is added to the workforce, industry should grow, as long as the various territories choose to stay together.

Socialista Unito - Lobsterpastry
Government Type: Theocratic Communism
Current Head of State: King Fuhrer Enrico Berlinguer
Status: A strange society in the south of of the Italian peninsula, the Socialista Unito is intensely focused on military discipline and the workers' cause. The nation's leader is chosen each year in a tradition of man-to-man combat, and installed on a throne under the pretense of divine right. The promise of liberation for the workers of the world and the promise of adventure at war has created an atmosphere of invincibility in the military, despite its outdated weaponry.
Economy: Rationing and a lack of societal mobility has drained the workforce of inspiration, so the state is desperately trying to revive patriotism in the factories through the use of propaganda. It has only partially worked, and the national leaders know that reform is needed to prevent productivity from falling further.

Spartan Republic - Zambies
Government Type: Democracy
Current Head of State: Spártakos
Status: A fortress of a nation, Sparta has used a culture of civil service to build the most well-trained and possibly best equipped military on the planet. However, the lifestyle of rotating military and private interests severely cuts down on industrial capacity, so health and fitness are hugely emphasized to ensure that as many goods can be produced as possible with those workers who are available. The educational system is also well-funded, making Sparta a safe choice for already-established companies seeking to expand.
Economy: Sparta isn't known for having convenience stores and fast food restaurants, but consumerism is still alive and well in the republic and business tends to thrive. Recently, the government has begun to subsidize local businesses that which to expand into the Bosphorous and upper Nile regions, which the public decries as encouraging foreign job market competition.

United Kingdom - Kriegsmarine
Government Type : National Socialism
Current Head of State: Sir Charles Lancewright
Status: This populous nation is currently lead by a pro-white, anti-gay administration which has segregated the workforce and taken control of most public institutions. It is using this power to invest heavily in military and scientific research, which has placed it a few years ahead of the curve.
Economy: Despite a divided and restless public, the nation is outputting enough manufactured goods to turn a profit, and daily necessities, such as milk and gasoline, can be purchased at reasonable prices. Conditions are expected to improve so long as order is kept on the streets and in the factories.

United States - Diago21
Government Type - Democratic Republic
Current Head of State: President Richard Nixon
Status: The American republic is the most populous nation in the world, due in part to the explosive growth its largest cities experienced during the past 100 years- especially New York City, a metropolis unlike any other city in the world. President Nixon has been in office for two years, and has proved to be a popular leader thanks to his pro-industry stances and pacifist approach to world politics, backed up by his expert Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger.
Economy: America is the corporate capitol of America, and is vying for dominance of the world economy. The US dollar is the measure against which foreign currency is measured, and there seems to be no weakness anywhere in America's rich store of resources.
Other Player Nations (Send in your nation info!):
Baltic Nations - Overpain
Montreal - Satansick
NPC Nations:
Berber Alliance - A recent upstart economy has allowed this African nation to begin modernizing itself, but a corrupt government and military are hindering its success.
Black Sea Republic - Militarily weak, but scientifically ambitious communist nation. Recently caused a terrible diplomatic incident during a conference with Muscovy.
Finland - A politically apathetic and all around average nation on the Baltic.
Germany - Massively industrialized economic power with deep reluctance for overarching strategic involvement. In other words, wasted potential. A new national leader could change that.
Muscovy - Technological giant of the east, responsible for arming most of the nations currently in play. Has a malicious side and highly dislikes nationalistic governments. Allied with Russia.
Polish Empire - Europe's oldest monarchy, with no ambitions beyond high standards of living. A friendly trading partner. Allied with Black Sea Republic.
Roman Federation - Subtly nationalistic, this highly-militarized republic is divided from within over religious disputes, and is in need of serious self evaluation.
Russia (Reserved for Burgervich) - Large and industrious, this technologically weak nation has a seemingly endless supply of men in uniform. Allied with Muscovy.
Scotland - Hugely nationalistic and embittered northerners who would like nothing more than war with their southern neighbor, the United Kingdom. Suffers high unemployment rates.
Slavic Empire - Pan-Slavic power on the Mediterranean. Economically strong, but is inept when it comes to military matters.
West Iberian Empire - Calm and stable economic power lead by a fascist government. Wishes to see a united Iberian peninsula, which may happen if it is left undisturbed.
Guidelines for Turns and Sign-up:
1. If you want a country, send me a PM with that nation's name, its current head of state, government type, location, and a flag with dimensions close to 250x150. Or you can just take one of the NPCs.
2. Be descriptive when you send in turns. It's important.
3. Message me about alliances. Both parties must message me about it, or I will not put it into the turn.
Turn Format:
Military Actions: (What you do with your troops and ships, declarations of war.etc)
Internal Political Actions: (Changing policies, and movements in the government system)
External/Diplomatic Actions: (Making alliances and trading technology with other countries)
Economic Actions: (Research, industry focus, economic system changes)
Send your next turn as "Turn 1: (Nation)"!
A++ for the explanation of ruler succession in Socialista Unito.
Fun fact Akhileus is the Turkish name of Achilles, and Aleksandar is the Macedonian name for Alexander the Great.

Two of these emperors being, as some historians believe, two of the most psychotic rulers in the world.

You laugh, but if you were to try to invade Sparta right now you'd get your Italian-ass kicked.
Why in the world would I invade Sparta? Besides, that was literally dozens of centuries ago. I just thought it was funny since Sparta was a democracy for a relatively small time.

Oh you.
The following is an article from the Czechoslovak newspaper "Lidovky". Due to the newspaper being in Czech, the article has been translated to English for your convenience:
When politics take a nasty turn
Today, three new parliamentary parties have joined the Chamber of Deputies. But, they aren't democratic, like the Social Democratic Party or the Civic Democratic Party.
One of these new parties looks at a type of nationalism, while the other two look at a certain type of economical system. The parties, named the National Fascist Party, the Federal Socialist Party and the People's Communist Party, have already gained controversy in the country and its neighbours. Whilst the Civic Democratic Party is currently in control, as Jan Jaromír is part of the party, the National Fascist party is becoming more popular due to people seeing it as a good way to unite the Slavic terriories together, coupled with the party's saying "Pan-Slavism will become true with the power of Fascist", which is making many Slavic nationalists in the country come to their side. The Federal Socialist Party doesn't seem as popular, compared to the Social Democratic Party, but both parties have supporters.
Right now, in the polls, the most popular parties are:
- Civic Democratic Party
- National Fascist Party
- Social Democratic Party
- Federal Socialist Party
- People's Communist Party
Many people hope that someone from the Civic Democratic or Social Democratic Party comes to office, as many people say the other 3 parties might bring bad times to Czechoslovakia.
Why all the Commu-hate? It's only bad when it's Russian Communism.
Join the axis be national socialist
Why all the Commu-hate? It's only bad when it's Russian Communism.
Because all forms of communism doesn't work, is more authoritarian than faschism, retarded economic an social policies that goes against human nature, and it requires blood via revolution. It is 9th grade history lessons subject. There it should've been taught why communism is bad. Oh and protip: russian communism is called stalinism.
Why all the Commu-hate? It's only bad when it's Russian Communism.
Well, how I have been looking at the polls, people think that regular socialism is better than communism.

That too.
Join the axis, be national socialist
Well, by the time the next election happens, it's going to be a steady race between the Civic Democratic Party and the National Fascist Party.
I just realized that Communism/Fascism/Authoritarianism/Monarchy outnumber Democracy/Republics 7 to 3 in the RP not counting the people who didn't send in a Turn 0.

Sent via PM so as to not clog up the thread.
Also there's no such thing as socialdemocratism. It's call revisionism- but yes, social democrats are arguably revisionists. Arguably, because most social democrats don't seek communism, nor really even socialism. Most social democrats seek state socialism. Which is not communism.

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but I'd be happy to openly argue the matter if that's what you want.
I just didn't want to take a one-on-one convo about a topic that usually involves people writing 10-page-threads on and put it in the middle of this thread, which has nothing to do with it.
hai gais,

How many have yet to send a turn?
6 People have sent in their turns, and one person is joining. Lobsterpastry, Eli45, overpain, IPK, damian0358, and Diago have sent me their turns, and Ruskie is joining. Supposedly, Kriegsmarine sent his turn to the wrong account, so he'll be sending me that today. That means we have 6 more turns out. If Satansick doesn't get his turn in by this Friday, his nation will be an NPC.
So when's the turn?
