The Useless Faction Server is a PVP oriented server with few rules, no whitelist, and a central mall through which players can sell their items. Formerly a private server, we have decided to open it to the public as we realized that we could never fill all 24 slots.

The plugins installed on the server include IConomy, NoCheat, Showcase, Bookworm, and most importantly Factions.
IConomy adds a system of currency to Minecraft. NoCheat stops many hacks from working and also alerts the admins. Showcase allows a player to buy and sell items using a block. Bookworm allows the player to write books and store them in bookshelves. Last but not least, Factions allows a player to claim land and take it from others. Each individual player has 10 power. When you join a faction you add 10 power to their total max power. When you die or get killed you lose two power, which affects the faction as well. If the faction has more land than power it is possible for a rival faction to claim their land. Claiming land also prevents neutral and enemy factions from griefing your land. If an enemy claims your land they can do anything they want with it, including destroying your buildings and stealing your items.
Many signs are available in the spawn town to assist you if need be, and there is usually an admin on if anything goes wrong.

How does faction land work? Are you unable to build on enemy territory, or are you allowed to build on enemy territory at the cost of health, or what?

Basically, your faction gets 10 power for every member. Land costs 1 power, and you can lose power by dying. However if you have more land than power people can take over your land (until you're land is equal with your power).
Pretty good server, I like the spawn a lot, I think I'll keep playing.
Did the server just go down just now? Or is it just me?
it goes down sometimes at night because the owner hasn't given any of the mods ability to restart it.

I can restart it now, so at the most it'll be down for like 30 minutes.
I haven't heard about what is going to be done when the 1.9 update comes out, but if anything, might I suggest something like this to be used?

This was done for the 1.8 update but it supposedly it's intended to work for the 1.9 update.

Magical blocks that instantly kill you upon touching them.
But really, I downloaded a water shader mod and when I went underwater, everything looked weird. When I was above surface however, everything looked awesome though.
I won't tell you what those blocks are. Should be obvious as to what they are anyways.
