• The GModRP Experiment - Facepunch gets to tell me what to do
We're dead but we might come back, IDK
There's a distinct lack of Garry's Mod FP servers. I know not everyone here still plays the grandaddy of games that brought us all together, but it's a shame we don't have a server hosted by a Facepuncher, for Facepunchers. Basically, this thread right here brought up a very interesting topic. Go over and read it you lazies. Back? Good, so you know what this is. They wanted a DarkRP server to prove DarkRP could be fun if the right people ran it, and people actually played along with the RP in a silly way; we can do that right? Good. So here's the spheel: I'm willing to donate my server to do this. My community is small, and it's mostly a group of 15 or so friends that come on occasionally when we're not doing real life things, though I'm on as often as I can be. The server is running DarkRP on rp_downtown_v2 for now, as it was easy to set up and that was the topic of the experiment, but from here one out, this is for you guys; I want as many suggestions, as much feedback, as much critique as possible so we can make this work. I ran a test a little earlier, and while we only had 6~ people on, it was pretty fun, and I imagine with the full 24, it'd be more than enjoyable. So, if you have ideas for the map, the theme, the gamemode, all that razzle dazzle, post it here. We'll keep it simple for a few days, just DarkRP, but the more you guys give me, the more I can work on, the more fun I can make it. For a feel of what it's all about:
Okay guys here's the procedure, the server is being run with vanilla DarkRP on rp_downtown_v2, as it's one of the more common maps and I feel everyone has the map, and is comfortable there for now. I'm not giving anyone admin, period, and while donations are appreciated, they won't get you anything except a pretty chat tag. I'm going to assume the survey went over basic ideologies in reference to roleplay, but here are my personal rules: 1. Stay in character. Even if your character is a sleazy black man named Snoop Dogg who sells dope and reads children hentai manga, with a soft spot for kittens, you should stay in-character. Be as silly as you want, while making at least some sense, and don't act like a douchenozzle. If I see you going around screaming "lol gimme guns or ima shoot you" without you making some attempt to act like your character, there will be punishments. That being said, this isn't meant to be serious; be a gangster, rob stores and people, make bases in the subways, but do it while remaining in character. You shoud only kill when it would make sense for your character; even if you're a terrorist, terrorists do more than randomly find a place and shoot people there. Plan, pretend, have fun. 2. NLR is a thing, but that doesn't mean just don't go back to where you died. It means, if you were Suzy the Whore and were murdered by a sleazy fat guy who hired you, when you respawn, you're someone else. Sure you can be Liza the Whore, but have some originality; you're no longer the same person, embrace the chance to be someone new. 3. No prop idiocy like driving props or hitting people; this stuff is simple, just don't do it, alright? Use common sense, I shouldn't, and won't, write out every scenario point by point. If someone takes you hostage, roleplay it out. The server does have a couple of more necessary addons, with things such as stacker, textfields, PAC3, Customizable Third Person (if you'd rather feel like you're controlling your character than if you are your character) weight, necessary things that people need to play. I won't add wire, at least not yet, as it's a lot of work to get running and sucks up resources like a hog. On the note of PAC3, I expect that outfits will remain as clothing on a character, rather than as full blown outfits. No floating babies and orbs of light, you're still a person, this is just to add accessories to that person.
Good feedback in that old thread, but I want to hear what you guys want. Silly, but serious, catch my drift? Fun.
Hosted with ElpisHost, seriously, this guy makes me fucking cum rivers

Join the Steam Group pls: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/LsFFL
Was on earlier, Was pretty fun. Needs more jobs though.
I don't know about that, the point of the server is to be about roleplay, and you don't really need a job to do that. I'll consider it, but for the most part, I want to prevent job clutter.
I think running it on Dark RP and downtown is not exactly working well. The whole concept of the experiment was to see how it would function with a mature community, but it seems a lot of standard Dark RPers are being drawn in by the map and gamemode.

Bloc42 is good, also c18 [editline]5th January 2013[/editline] if you dont want cars that is
I'll look at Block42, though I want to avoid HL2RP, I'll see if the maps suit our needs as well.
I think it would be a good idea to set up a password, and put the password in the OP. It sounds like minges are a problem. Anyway, I'd be glad to check this out. I've been looking for mature, serious RP servers on San Andreas MP for a week and haven't found anything. Wow. You took my advice fast. Tried joining through the IP on the OP, said "bad password".
That shouldn't have happened. Apparently there is some issue giving certain players grief when they try to join. I'm going to try and repair the issue. [editline]5th January 2013[/editline] Oh wait, someone was crashing it. I'm going to add a password, but I don't want to forsake any new players that aren't from FP that actually have the same sense of fun.
I got in it but people were spamming cars everywhere.
Yeah, suddenly got filled with idiots within seconds. Restarted to apply changes, hopefully it scatters the roaches as well.
I just crashed from a metric fuckton of car spam
It happens when you run this kind of gamemode. I'll attempt to get a password in that prevents idiots while not preventing good players from joining.
I'll hop on in a bit.

I'm glad there was actually a lot of fun RP going on today.
This is a good idea. It's nice to actually roleplay on a darkrp server. Being a doctor is actually fun!
Going to make a few changes tonight along with an update for those of you who haven't played here: 1. Doctors will be able to sell medkits. 2. Going to add a few animation options if people want to idle position. 3. Lockpicks and keypad crackers available for sale. Gimme any other changes you all want.
Can you remove the dumb stamina thing? It's pretty annoying that when I'm building and decorating, I just drop dead because I starved in 10 minutes. If no chefs are online, everyone is dead meat unless someone becomes a chef and starts mass-spawning food.
I gave the server a try today, and was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed myself there. I'll try to explain my experience there a little. I got on the server while it was running downtown v2. Truthfully, everyone was a little mingy or weren't really RPing, while I was noting some of the things I found different from other servers, like how no matter the job you can choose any player model or use PAC 2. Which brought me to my next observation, which was that there was a handful of jobs. There was gangster/mob boss, Mayor, cook, medic, gun dealer, and police officer/chief (excuse me if they were called something else in-game). I was about to label the server as a minge filled mess, when the Owner said that he'd be changing maps and he wants people to play semi-serious. I thought to myself what the hell, and downloaded the map on workshop and reentered. The owner was gone, crashed said one person, and I figured everyone would go back to what they were doing before. They proved me wrong. The ones using their steam names switched to RP names, and started setting up shops or building. While I was buying up property and making a hotel, one man was setting up a climic, another a gunstore, and the mayor was leading a space program. I laughed at the idea, but in the end he completed it in a way. Even the guys that were still mingy sorta tried, one with a dildo store, although eventually an angry citizen broke into and wrecked it, much to the guy's chagrin. Everyone was doing something, the police were either patrolling staking out the space program site in my hotel, the mayor was building a makeshift rocketship, the doctor was decorating his clinic, as was the gun dealer to his own shop, and the gangsters were off conspiring to kill the mayor (Possibly. No one was really sure what those guys were doing). The mayor eventually gathered everyone to watch the rocket fly off into space. The police soon after were dispatched to gather the rocket's parts to make a monument out of it. I checked out other people's shops to see how they turned out, and was impressed. The gun dealer made one wall hold all of his gun prices, and made a ceiling fan. The doctor had medical equipment in his office, and the Owner helped him by making a table that could be sat on for RP purposes. All through it, me and another guy were RPing in the various situations that took place. After checking his steam id to friend him, I found out he was the Owner. Sorry if there's any spelling mistakes, I rushed this out on a mobile. tl;dr: -People Roleplayed. -The Owner took part in RPing/didn't abuse his powers. -The server offered appearance options. -People will be initially turned off by lack of jobs, but if they make the best of it they'll find it's fine. -The server wasn't filled with minges. -I enjoyed myself -Small amount of players wasn't a problem. -Every change you see were suggestions from players Sorry if my story was a little vague, if I find the time I'll lengthen it some more. I was David Valkersije while playing, and I would definitely join again.

Played for quite a few hours today. We never stopped roleplaying, though there were lapses when we all tried figuring out PAC in the middle of the street. I don't feel like making a huge post, but it was awesome. Consider me a regular.
Is the roleplay over? I feel like hopping on, now that I know it isn't just RDMing and firefights in the middle of the street without any grammar.
It's never over, though we got a good bit of FP'ers who came on and instantly started prop killing and acting like idiots. Dachande gives us FP'ers quite the bad name.

If I were you I'd just perma them as soon as they get started. Timezones are a bitch, this server usually gets populated when its evening/night in my country.
way too much lag imo
The lag is caused by DDOS as far as I know. Only occurred after I banned Dachande and his friend for prop killing, spawn killing, and just being jerks; Elpis has never given me lag, especially not like this. Taking down the server for about 5 minutes to do a few updates and then hopefully eradicate lag. If it continues, can't do much besides wait it out.
elpis is a terrible server host and i think that if u are indeed being ddos'd that u should take theserver down asap until the ddos stops ( average 6-7 days depending on the bitrate ) (User was banned for this post ("Trolling / shitposting" - MaxOfS2D))
I could understand attacking Darster's, it was a kid who came to advertise, but I put my server up to have fun and that was happening until you came along and ruined it. I can understand hate for DarkRP, I can, but this isn't some stupid pay-to-win server with hats, 20+ jobs, and purchasable admin, all I aimed to do was actually bring FP a decent server that they could RP in a fun way within.
