Have you ever sat awake in the deepest hours of the night, wondering where we came from? What our purpose is? For all the material things, all the power, all the knowledge...At the end of the day, we look up at that dark blue sky - the endless expanse of heaven, yearning to break free of our earthly bindings. Yearning to see, to know. So sure of ourselves, yet we look up and wonder.... The year is C.E. 18550. A shadow of oppression looms over the world. There's simply not enough hope to go around, and many have become casualties of this endless age of oppression by our own vices. So far deep has this world gone down into the tunnel of despair that most have ceased to see the light at its end. They call us fools and lepers, us lorekeepers, for they are so drunk of their suffering they refuse to let hope sober them. I can't blame them, for not even the most ancient among us can recall a time before the dark days we live in now. They've forgotten that it was not always like this... ...Indeed, it was not always like this. The year is C.E. 7800. Humanity's growing appetite had brought it from its home planet of "Earth" to the furthest corners of the stars, in search of material wealth, new opportunities, and new beginnings. On the decline and having devoured the very last inches of Space, humanity was on the brink of devouring itself. A starving and divided race clinging to every last resource brought its arms to bear, and just when it looked like the end had come, a beacon of hope appeared on the horizon. Around the fabled star of Umara Keroxis, a gateway into greater heavens opened up, saving humanity in its time of need. Eagerly, humans crossed the gateway and discovered a new region of of soace, rich in resources and planets. Humanity once again began to flourish and expand, indulging in the splendor of the new cluster. Colonists fled the old world and entered through the gateway to seek the new, hoping to stake their claim in the virgin cluster. Technology, culture, knowledge, and prosperity flourished in this new era, and for decades, mankind ascended into a golden age. ...That is, until the catastrophe occurred No one knows for sure why the gateway closed, but many would tell you it was the universe's punishment for mankind's appetite. The years crawled on and the gateway became faint. Attempts to stabilize it were made, but far too late. When the gateway finally collapsed in C.E. 7883, the colonies of the new cluster were utterly unprepared. The cataclysm resulting from the collapse completely erased many young worlds, and those which evaded the collapse event were left without desperately needed support from the old worlds. Eventually, most technology was abandoned and so too was man's ability to traverse the stars. Some hoped contact with the other side would be re-established, but nothing nor anyone came. As centuries turned to millennia, most forgot about the stars. Of the golden age. Of Earth. Only those who dedicated their lives to the study and transmission of the lore retained knowledge of histories, and today we still hold that distinction. Still, that is only the tale we pass down. It has been many thousands of years since the events in the histories would have occurred. We only have these stories to determine what really happened. The fate of those on the other side of the gateway? Of Earth? No one can be certain. Among the scientific community, many would tell you that there is little evidence of a planet "Earth" even existing in the first place. They could be right, but one thing is for certain: if we ever want to escape these dark days, we need to believe in those golden days....For it was not always like this, and a time will come again when humanity breaks free of its earthly bindings and reclaim the stars. With hope and faith, a time will come again. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Welcome to the world of C.A.T.A.L.Y.S.T. - a Sci-Fi space roleplay inspired by the EVE Online universe. It is the year C.E. 18550 - the 'new' sector which was long ago the lifeblood of humanity is now a silent, isolated graveyard of dead colonies stretching the expanses of known space. After the death of most human colonies and the regression of some lucky (or unlucky) few into pre-modern ways of living, advanced technology was lost in favor of simple subsistence technology. No longer was anyone concerned with knowledge and advancement - even the basic necessities of survival became a struggle for most. The histories themselves have become lost to the vast expanse of space, a sea of stars previously commuted with ease and now once more an un-reachable heaven. Nation-states broke under the stress of dire conditions and ethnicities and nationalities gave way to tribes and clans. Long forgotten was the way of the rifle, jet, tank and, boat as warriors took up sword and shield to do battle. Even now, space lay in utter silence, those lucky to survive the darkest days now squabbling in their terrestrial prisons, blissfully unaware of the many others like them out in the stars. But even now, the beginnings of a reclamation is brewing. Powerful empires are set to rise once more to unite their peoples and once again reach for the stars. It's all up to you to rekindle the flame of humanity's golden age and set sail for the cosmos. However, bringing back the lost glory of the ancient days will not be an easy task, as even among humanity itself there is bound to be fierce competition to be on top. Meanwhile, a new threat looms over the horizon as undiscovered extraterrestrial races begin their own journeys to the stars, vying for cosmic supremacy. For humanity to truly be prosperous again, only one can rule above all. Are you up to the task? Rules/Tips!
-Turns should be limited to a maximum of 8 lines, for now. -I will allow play as a corporation/entity inside of an existing faction/etc. - this is more lucrative than you might think. -Turns will be posted on a default weekly schedule, but may be posted early if I get enough turns in on time. -A brief breakdown of basic FTL technology: http://pastebin.com/yHYfCNY8 -Use the below format for your initial first turn:

Faction Banner/Insignia/Icon: A symbol, flag, banner, etc. that represents your faction. Faction Name: The official and (optionally) colloquial/alternative names of your faction. Faction Species: The primary species of your faction. (Typically human, unless you're playing an alien civilization) Faction Demonym(s): Terms used to describe members of your faction (e.g. Terran, Humanian, Etcetrian, etc.) Faction Type: The nature of your faction (typically government type) Faction Leader(s): The name (and title) of your faction's leader or leaders (at the end of the turn). May also be the name of an organization/group if there are too many to name (E.g. "The Council of Leaders") Faction Home System: The name of your faction's home star-system Faction Home Planet: The name of your faction's home planet. Faction Background: NOT optional - consider this technically as your first turn commands - should include a brief history of how your faction came to be and how it came to prominence starting from CE18550 to the next 4000 years (for most factions this would mean how it came to unite its home planet, and up to the point of re-inventing/inventing FTL.) - should also include basic details about the faction like culture, military, religion, values, social structure, language, and a brief description of its inhabitants among other stuff like that. IF playing a corporation/sub-governmental entity, you don't have to cover the 4000 years but should still describe your faction in some capacity.
The turn format for each successive turn is as follows:
(Please title your PMs like this: Turn (x): Faction Name) Military: All of your actions related to military such as procurement of supplies/arms, restructuring, attacks, defense, and expansion. External Affairs: All of your actions involving interaction with other factions (diplomacy between player faction MUST be present on each party's turn) Internal Affairs: All of your non-military actions regarding your own faction such as laws, reforms, projects, peaceful expansion, etc. OOC: Optional section for going more in-depth with your turns and stuff like that. You can do this yourself, or contract a competent player/npc corporation to do it for you. The design document should then be submitted to the GM. Things you might include in a design document are: -Ship hull type: the size of the hull. E.g. Frigate, destroyer, cruiser, battlecruiser, battleship, dreadnought, carrier, etc (make sure you don't try to design a hull type you don't have the tech to create!) -Ship hull size: the physical dimensions of the ship. Sizes of hulls are generally as follows: frigates: 90-150 meters destroyers: 180-280 meters cruisers: 290-355 meters battlecruisers: 480-670 meters battleships: 990-1200 meters carriers: Any size you have tech for really dreadnoughts: 3500-5200 meters titans: 12,500-15,000 meters -Weapon/module hardpoints: these are spots on which turrets, guns, launchers, and other modules can be mounted on the ship. -designed purpose/role of the ship: an example would be a slow, tanky ship or a high power glass cannon. This helps me with creating the ship's radar chart. -technology: this would include any non-weapon modules, including hull specs, armor plating specs, shielding, sensors, electronic warfare systems, targeting systems, et cetera. -an optional visual diagram/representation of your ship -Fitting doctrines: the various way the ship hull can be outfitted, if there is more than one way to outfit it. E.g. A railgun-fit meme class cruiser or a blaster-fit meme class cruiser with afterburners. -any additional info. The more specific you are, the better. After designing your ship(s), you will be able to build them. Put a procurement line in your turn for a certain number of that ship (and specific fitting) and your order will commence building. If you lack a crew to staff those ships, a crew with appropriate skills will also be trained for however long is required. After your ships are built, fitted, and crewed, you may deploy them. After a long "dark" period, a group of powerful tribes banded together in CE 18553 and declared the creation of the Civil Defense Committee (Zivilschutzausschuss, ZSA) which operated as a dictatorial oligarchy. Due to the fact most colonies at this point were small in size, the ZSA took over all settlements very quickly. A military was founded known as the Settlement Defense Brigade (Siedlungsverteidigungsbrigade, SVB) was founded to protect colonists. The ZSA encouraged rapid colonization throughout all habitable regions on the planet and this continued until most of the planet was colonized. The ZSA maintained strict control on education, improving literacy rates at the cost of feeding propaganda down the throats of students. The populace was kept pacified by the ZSA and the threat of revolt was almost non-existent and ZSA control continued for the next 275 years unmolested. In CE 18828, the first threat to ZSA rule was encountered in the form of a radical religious group calling themselves the Ecclesiastical Order of the Solar Temple (Kirchenorden des Sonnentempels, KOST). The KOST was led by a farmer now only known as Messias who believed that he was the child of the Sun which was a God. The ZSA banned this order which lead to a large revolt against the the Committee by the KOST. An SVB armory was raided and a battle began between the militia and the rebels which led to a swift rebel defeat. Acts of civil disobedience became commonplace over the next 40 years and the SVB forcibly dissolved the ZSA and put the military junta the National Protection League (I]Nationale Schutz-Liga, NSL) in power that ruled for a while. Eventually, a rich and popular military officer known as Ludwig von Böse took over the NSL and dissolved it. Ludwig declared himself Kaiser Ludwig von Böse. The new Böse Empire was seen as a good thing by the poor populace as Kaiser Ludwig created hundreds of new jobs, lowered taxes and reduced the influence of rich landowners on the government. 35 years into his reign, Ludwig passed away due to heart disease and his son, Martin Ludwigssohn, was named Kaiser. People of the Böse Empire speak the language Anthropocentric (Anthropozentrisch which is descended from Modern German. There is no religion on the planet and Kaiser Martin rules with an iron fist. Home Planet: Markren

Starting as a hub for the production of luxury goods. medical technology and resorts, Markren was used as both a haven for tourists and a hub for cutting edge medical research, however the collapse of the gate to Earth being lost caused great panic and unrest on the world, leading to a massive war over the last remaining FTL capable ships on the planet, which were destroyed in the ensuing conflicts. The explosions from the reactors of these ships plunged the northern hemisphere of the planet into a terrible nuclear winter, and the southern hemisphere into a scorching nuclear summer, lasting well over three generations. In this time of hardship the Humans of Markren began to slowly unite through the efforts of what remained of the ancient Earth-controlled government forces, lasting in a twenty year campaign of conquest and repair, eventually becoming a more contiguous species over centuries of technological re-advancement and cultural revolution, unsurprisingly involving the heavy usage of augmentations to withstand the higher background radiation induced by the planet's previous wars, and incredibly lethal local fauna. In terms of military, the FSM is heavily reliant on both augmented shock troops and vehicular support, utilizing combined arms to adapt to changing tactical situations. Markrennians are especially moral. After lessons learned from the original cause of Markren being nearly vaporized in nuclear fire, the average citizen has a strong sense of honor, duty, and compassion. Seeing those in a better social or monetary standing helping someone in a lower standing is not uncommon, and is the social norm. Religion: GOD IS DEAD, AND WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH. In recent years, the FSM government has invested significant money into developing exhuming and terraforming technology. The discovery of another planetary civilization within the orbit of Vectora Alpha has recently sent shockwaves through Markrennan society as the young Federation realized it was not alone in the universe. Scant manned expeditions have recently been conducted, but communication with these extraterrestrial humans is extremely difficult due to language differences and incompatible technology. The best Markennan astronauts managed to coax out of the "primitive" natives of the planets is that they called their world 'Oraxis' - within the next few years, appearance of the word 'Oraxis' in internet data grabs has increased by 60,000%
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The Jovian Alliance for Science, Survival and Progress - lintz
At a Glance Species: Human Demonym(s): Jovian/Jassper/Jasspeth (singular and plural) Government: Scientific Dictatorship Leader(s): Autarch Aurora Tayh Home System: Cistuvaert Home Planet: Jupiter (Gas Giant)

They had foreseen the Collapse of humanity, made plans and executed them with ruthless precision. With what little resources they could gather and volunteers to serve as manpower, The Six served the interests of science and the survival of mankind. They furiously researched ways of cryostasis, genetic cloning and mind transfers in an attempt to maintain control. In the end, they could only launch what experimental technology they had in the aftermath of the Collapse, lest they never launch at all. Many ships left their world. Few survived their sojourn. Their capital ship, the head of all their power, was caught in the gravity well of a gas giant far flung from their true home. Through sheer dumb luck, the ship attained geostationary orbit within the upper atmosphere of the planet. With hundreds of thousands of volunteers from colonies across their rule in cryostasis and the upper echelons of their government trapped in a cycle of clone birth and death, where they remained for several millenia, managed by automated processes and owing their continued survival to the hydrogen fusion cells on board the ship. Nearly four thousand years passed until the first wave of volunteers were released from stasis. They had been chosen for their minds and their creativity, the chosen few with the ability to continue paving the future for their society. They saw the polar storms of the gas giant outside their windows and named it Jupiter in honour of their past. And they chose among themselves one who would rule the masses, a great leader for their society, one whom the populace could rally around - Aurora Tayh, a leader whose wisdom was matched only by her beauty. Thus the beacon was passed on, from generation to generation, for the next few decades, as more and more people were released from stasis. A peaceful egalitarian society emerged, a meritocracy born on the wings of how well any individual could perform, as there were jobs to be done and sciences to be taught. But though the technology of the golden age could synthesise food and water from the bounteous atmosphere swirling outside the walls of their giant liveship, raw materials such as steel and spaceworthy metals were rapidly dwindling, and their people desperate for a new life outside of the cold walls of their ship, and for the trappings of luxury they once possessed. Now the Jasspeth seek to colonise new worlds, to find rich planets abundant in resources to exploit and spread across the cosmos once more and usher in a new age of humanity.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The Domum Ecclesiarchy - Jsoldier
At a Glance Species: Human Demonym(s): Domumian Government: Ecclesiarchy (Democratic Republic) Leader(s): Council of High Elders Home System: Terra Terminus Home Planet: Domus Nostrae

Riding under a banner of Domum, or home in the language of his original tribe, the first High Elder, Tyrannus, sunk his claws into the other tribes scattered around his immediate area. Through high-level political and military strategy he conquered the areas around him more and more, his state becoming more unstoppable as time went on. Even though there were much conquering to be had, some tribes joined willingly, not wanting to fall to the wayside by the marching drums of the Domum war machine. Tyrannus was seen as a god-king by those who followed him, a man who was so powerful he eventually united the scattered tribes of the world under one banner. His dying words to his fellow countrymen were, "Ire cum nobis: excutite in astra, et egressi sunt semper,”, or “We shake the stars when we march, and we are always marching.” This motto was turned into the national logo of the planet, and when the armies of Domum marches across the plains of the planet-with-no-name, they sang that chant to the beat of their foot-falls. When the planet was finally taken over completely, by the forces of Tyrannus, the new world-faction named the planet Domum. Although many tribes called the planet something else, the fact that they were all either wiped out or assimilated left no other dissenting opinion. The culture of the Domumian Ecclesiarchy is one that values hard work, leadership, strength, and passion. Unlike many other warrior tribes on the planet, they valued art and the enriching of culture instead of just military might. Tyrannus taught the people under him about the art of leadership, and led troops in song, prayer and dance daily. War dances were common among the troops, as well as dances celebrating life and the planets nature. The Council of High Elders are people from the upper echelons of Domum society; however, they are chosen by the people who serve the public's best interests. The Elders are those who have experienced many things, whether it be militarily, culturally, or spiritually. There are twelve spots in the Council, three are given to military leaders, three to cultural leaders, and three to religious figures. These few the entire planet in decision making, and plan stuff for the planet to do to expand or create. The military armor of the people of Domum are distinct due to their distinct red eye-holes, which pierce even the densest of fog with an eerie glow. The dark grey fatigues help blend into the night, which accentuates their glowing red-eyes. A high-tech rebreather is used to prevent attack from chemical or smoke type weaponry, as do the goggles they use.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The United Federation - Nerfmaster000
At a Glance Species: Humans Demonym(s): Federals, ẞelps Government: Federal Republic Leader(s): President Kennerf Edens Home System: ẞräi-Xen Home Planet: ẞelphöx

Records on human history about to the rise of the Federation are scant, given the great collapse that occurred between then and the Golden Era. What have survived are mostly secondary sources, copies of historical documents made during early-Federation Era. Some of these sources’ details contradict one another, which can be attributed to author bias, imperfect access to information, imperfect copying, or some combination of the three. The most detailed source on early-Federation history are from The Ages of ẞelph, a historical text made in C.E 19848. This text claimed that in the first 500 years of Federal history, another great power called the Alliance has emerged around the same time as the Federation did, differing in ideology and culture. Competition for resources eventually resulted in a great war between the two somewhere around C.E 18900s that ultimately saw the dissolution of the Alliance, leaving the Federation as the sole superpower on ẞelphöx. With the increased influence in both the global economy and world politics, the other nation states around the world eventually became de facto satelite states of the Federation. This paved the path for Federal unification of the planet in the later centuries. -Language There is no one language in the Federation, with hundreds of different languages being spoke by billions. However, Simplified Standard Imperial has become the lingua franca amongs 80% of the population on the planet. The language, inherited from the Golden Age has changed little since the collapse. The Federation's Bureau of Language governs the development of Simplified Standard Imperial, and is responsible of its propagation throughout the Federation. The Bureau of Language considers it paramount that the entire nation speak one language, as to facilitate cooperation and acceptance of Federal rule. That being said, due to the size of the population, the Bureau of Language's mission is more than farfetched. -War The Federation has a well-funded and well-supported military with massive stockpiles of WMDs despite having no one to use against. War is usually seen as a final solution when diplomacy is deemed inefficient, and if war were to break out, firing the first shot is a high priority. -Religion Most of the Federal citizens are atheist, their beliefs is that there are no gods, only sufficiently advanced beings. However, they see "radical atheism" as a threatening ideology. Within the Federation, sex and romance are left alone by the government. Sex and gender roles are typical for most human civilizations: men are expected to court women and compete for them, and women are expected to be passive but discerning in finding the right man. Homosexual relationships are seen as no big deal, and homosexuality and transgenderism are non-issues. -Society The Federation by and large retains monogamous, nuclear family structures common among the ẞelps prior to the Federation. Once an individual reaches the age of twenty, they are expected to move out of their parents' house and begin building the foundations of a family of their own. Those that choose not to form families, and instead pursue their careers, are respected for making that personal sacrifice, particularly if it's in service to the state.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The Unu - Native Hunter
At a Glance Species: Sentient Fungus, and subspecies Demonym(s): Unun, Fungus Type: Fungus Hive Mind Leader(s): The Great One, the origin of the Fungium, and Emperor Mushroom Home System: Unuria / Fungium Home Planet: Uni

The Great Unun rising began long ago in the deep caverns of the planet Uni, the name given to the rare traveler allowed to leave the planet. From these caverns arose a great life, a mushroom that glowed a most beautiful hue of teal, which was discovered and soon cultivated by the native Unurians, a large stocky folk known for their brawn rather than brain. Soon the mushroom's became a delicacy to these people, becoming a worldwide cuisine an used in the production of dyes, medicine, and narcotics. To the Unurians these mushrooms were a staple to their civilization and society, however what they did not know was that these mushrooms were evolving at a spectacular rate, they became more and more addictive as time went on unto the point where the unurians coul die from withdrawal. Their obsession quite literally consumed them to the point where they themselves started to develop a bio-luminescent hue and grow the occasional spore from their skin, which they saw as a sign of great honor and nobility. However as time went on their very biology began to change, the mushrooms that they so desired spliced with the genome of the Unurians creating an entire new race of creature, they called these people the Unun, those of one mind. Eventually such a fate would become of all the Unurians, their minds corrupted from addiction and poison, all loyal to the Great One that lived deep within the planet, whose children and offspring spread the enlightenment to all of the planet. Every Ursataari can trace their lineage back to Ursoc, as all Bearkind descends from him existence. Making their home on Ursoc was not easy, they had to contend with the harsh winters, splintered tribes that often bickered and fought against each other, and their arch-nemesis the Klaxxi, an insectoid race that predated the Ursataari. The Klaxxi were cruel and abused the land, deforming it with disgusting, waxy hives, enslaving many Ursataari for their amusement in fighting arenas, and destroying many areas belonging to the free clans. After many years of tension, war blew up as the Klaxxi slaughtered many free Ursataari in their villages, sparing not even the cubs. Enraged, the six free tribes of the Ursataari banded together under the banner of Ursa [http://www.dota2wallpapers.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/DotA-2-Ursa-Warrior-Wallpaper.jpg], the direct son of Ursoc. The Ursataari fought a bloody 30 year war that eventually saw the eradication of the main Klaxxi swarm after the assault on their main hive, scattering the remaining Klaxxi to the most remote corners of the planet, who would never see their massive hive empire rebuild again. After this victory, and freeing their enslaved brethren, the tribes sought to rebuild what was destroyed under the banner of the High Chieftain. 10 years later, the legendary Ursa passed away in his home, surrounded by friends and family. A massive memorial service was held in the newly built capitol of Thel'Vadam and Ursataari from near and far came to pay their respects to this legendary hero. He was buried in the sacred grove in Ursoc, the supposed birthplace of his father. In the next 4000, peace came about the United Tribes of the Ursataari as the mantle was passed from one High Chieftain to the next. During the end of this timeframe, an expeditionary force that was surveying the treacherous Peaks of Skybreakers came across a structure that predating anything Ursataari or even anything Klaxxi as they first though. When they entered, they found something else entirely. An alien civilization had once established this to be a research outpost many eons ago to survey and study the planet and its inhabitants. This shook the Ursataari society to its core as they realized, for the first time, they weren't alone in the universe after all. The High Chieftain, Irtya, ordered the immediate researching of this alien facility and from this came the fruits of massive scientific and technological advancements in the span of a few short generations, allowing the Ursataari to finally take their first, small steps into the void of the Great Dark Beyond.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Next turn will span 100 years! The Böse Dynasty having secured their status as rulers of the Empire, the question of who was to hold the throne became a foregone conclusion. The Volk turned away from matters of politics and turned towards the stars. Having united their planet and affirmed the superiority of their race through a series of brutal wars, the Volk were tired of death and destruction. They began to build, and build they did. Early forays into planetary space led to the discovery of relatively-intact, ancient structures built by their distant ancestors - jumpgates through which they could navigate the stars. Study of these gates and their function eventually led to the re-awakening of a small network of jumpgates through which the Volk expanded their opportunities and, thus, their empire. The study of the jumpgates became such a rigorous and popular matter that their research led them into other sectors of wormhole theory, through which they discovered wormhole generation and created the cluster's first jump-drive. this invention, while a great point of pride for the Volk, was of little benefit to them, as there were several problems: firstly, no starship the Volk were capable of building was large or sturdy enough to withstand mounting and using the jump-drive. Secondly, the jump-drive could not simply throw a ship into any random direction - it required a sort of beacon onto which the ship could lock onto and tunnel through space to. Many attempts were made at creating adequate jump beacons, but all efforts in creating a valid lock-on have so far failed. -The expansion of the Volk domains also led to the expansion of the Volk demography. Though they would not like to admit it, the moment the Volk encountered other races was the moment they truly became an empire. -Though the Volk were not alone (to their surprise, actually) the lack of a civilization advanced enough to match them only validated the widespread belief that the Volk were indeed the apex of humankind. Even-so, the Böse-led government understood that a stable empire was one that accepted all its constituents, and so upon meeting the Sambesi, who had established their own inter-planetary civilization quite some time prior to Böse spaceflight, the empire took a gentle posture to the newly-discovered Sambesi. Through decades of inter-mingling and increasingly friendly relations, the Böse managed to peacefully induct the Sambesi State into the Böse Empire as a constituent state. The inclusion of the Sambesi as an autonomous constituent state led to an uproar in the conservative community as many shivered at the thought of an inferior race holding any weight in the Imperial Diet. A great many moderates opposed the reactionary attitudes of the conservative community, believing that while the Volk as a people are truly the superior race, they question whether the definition of "Volk" is being misused by the conservatives, noting that not everyone on Neu Erde was considered "Volk" at one time or another. The moderates argue that the Sambesi are sufficiently advanced enough to be considered at least somewhat "Volk" and therefore should be given political rights, and eventually, full cultural inclusion. The issue was hotly debated for many years until the Imperial Office of Opinions came out supporting the moderate side. The debate mostly died down after that, and the idea that the Sambesi were an included subrace of the Volk became widespread in the empire. -The empire had thus shown its pluralist side, but it would soon also show its darker, supremacist side. -The discovery of the Weseri State was yet another shock for the Volk as they began to realize their cluster was more dense that they had previously thought. Seeing another opportunity to expand the empire's horizons, the Böse opened up peaceful relations and later suggestion union with the Weseri, but, to their surprise, the Weseri responded with a declaration of war. Having no military ships, the Böse sallied its expansive ground armies and prepared for war. The Weseri, having picked up on Böse forms of interstellar travel, brought a large military fleet into Neuen Rhein, preparing to glass the home planet of the Volk before they could even get out the door. The assault was barely repelled as the Böse used suicidal ramming techniques and mass-boarding attacks to down and hijack Weseri vessels. After the Weseri fled from Böse space, the empire prepared for a massive counter-attack. They took their cobbled-together fleet and transported a large army to Weseri space, where they systematically paradropped millions of troops from orbit. The Weseri, though outnumbering the Volk significantly, were outmatched by superior tactics and planetary military tech, which Volk exceeded in. In the following years, the Weseri state was disbanded, and its people were integrated into the empire as second-class citizens. The Weseri-Volk war was an important era for the Böse military, who pioneered hyper-solar charging technology for their weaponry. Unable to adequately supply the power batteries necessary to fuel their troops weapons' some commanders has their weapon stocks converted to solar power for convenience. Though these initial 'jury-rigged' prototypes were slow to charge and not as powerful as their battery-cell counterparts, they served as a crucial last-resort during times where entire units would run out of ammunition in the middle of battle. Solar-powered equipment is counted as one of the reasons for Volk victory against the Weseri. Another technology that sprouted from the war was kinetic bombardment satellites, which were put in place around troubled planets for purposes of defense (and the suppression of rebellions) -The last constituency of the empire was created of the Moseli, who had only recently begun to explore their system when the Volk arrived there. The Moseli people were not quite a single people, but a large array of different nation-states residing on their home planet. When Imperial explorers landed on their planet, a global panic arose, which resulted in a massive war between the Moseli nations. With urgency, the Volk explorers sent for Böse diplomats, who arrived months later to negotiate a peace between the Moseli nations. Peace talks eventually cut the war short. The aftermath of the war resulted in the rise of a single Moseli superpower, which, with Böse help united all the other nations into a single planetary state. In an 'uplifting' ceremony years later, the Moseli people were officially inducted into the Böse empire as an advanced constituent state. The Moseli, being much more similar culturally to the Volk than the Sambesi, were accepted by many as outright 'Volk.' Many citizens of Moseli state began to adopt the Volk identity as a result, and the Moseli state gained widespread acceptance from the Volk community early on. -Following the era of colonialism, the Böse Empire saw an expansion of societal progress. A ten percent budget draw-down on military spending was used to inject funds into the creation of a universal healthcare infrastructure on Neu Erde, as well as to expand education sectors, resulting in a healthier, and more literate population. -At the near-end of the century, the Böse Empire spanned more than 10 star systems, host to hundreds of billions of people. For the Böse family, this was an achievement like no other, as they had led this expansion from a single planetary state to what may-well be the greatest empire in the universe, if not the only one. Home Planet: Markren Total Population: ~293 Billion

-The turn of the century saw a drastic growth in the economy of the Federated systems as the increasingly-interconnected planets of Markren and Oraxis began to equal each other a superpowers of the region. Though the Oraxians had been in a post-industrial technological state when they met the Markrennans, their induction into the Federated Systems led to their quick uplifting, and the planet caught up to the technological and industrial prowess of Markren in less than a century, due in part to the favorable climate and conditions of Oraxis compared to the barren, desert-like Markren. -The economic progress of the Federated systems would, however, plateau as the bounds of that which the Federated Systems could expand to was limited. This all changed on a quiet night in September of 22578 when theoretical physicists Eduardo Ubina and Nikita Federov discovered that their theory of populated vacuum was not just the stuff of science fiction. Using a small prototype device they built in their government lab, they managed to generate a field around an atom of iron inside a vacuum, creating inside this field a space of "de-populated vacuum." With these conditions, Ubina and Federov managed to accelerate the iron atom past the referential speed of light. -The Markrennan space program, previously a modestly-funded agency, soon became the financial cumdumpster of Markrennan legislators. Flooded with funding, the space agency quickly uplifted Ubina and Federov to top department positions, taking their design and conferring with the government on how to best utilize it. After years of testing and further design, a ship-borne device was created. Dubbed the Ubina-Federov Drive, the device would allow space ships to reach ridiculous speeds of up to two to three astronomical units per second. Suddenly, travel to the outer planets of Vectora Alpha went from a half-decade long affair to a thirty second walk in the park. After the military had gotten its use out of the drive. -The space industry exploded in the following years, and demand for the government to release the drive's design documents reached an all-time high. In the late mid-century, the Markrennan government decided to contract the mass-production of the drive to a private company. The lucky firm that won the bid was Tycho Interplanetary - an up-and-coming defense and design bureau which had won previous contracts with the Markrennan military for ship modules. -As the Ubina-Federov drive reached the private sector, the Federated Systems began to rapidly expand throughout the stars. Interstellar propulsion allowed the Markrennans to visit their in-system neighboring stars of Vectora Proxima and Vectora Beta, which they found to already contain ancient infrastructure which facilitated interstellar jumps - the Markrennans quickly studied the jumpgates they discovered and learned how to on-line them, thus ushering in the golden era of the Federated Systems. -Terraforming technology became ever-more important in the frontier-years as Markren discovered many habitable and partially-terraformed planets. In addition to a widespread desire to make their home planet more habitable, terraforming the new assets of the Federated Systems was crucial to settling these areas. -At the end of the century, many planets lay partially terraformed, with much progress made on Markren itself, which sported lush forests and green lands among its vast arid climates. The Federated System stood in a golden age, driven onward by its hunger for resources, knowledge, and the answer to their ultimate question: are we alone in the universe? Regardless, the Markrennan government was also cautious, and perhaps a bit bent on conquest - with their search for new life came the creation of the Federated Navy, a department of Markren's military dedicated to the command of its emerging space assets, none other more important being its prospective military fleet to which its design was entrusted to the likes of Tycho Interplanetary.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Tycho Interplanetary Corp. - Zombie_2371
At a Glance Type: Corporation Leader(s): Samuel Terrell, CEO. The company struggled to stay afloat for another ten years, having numerous meetings with Markren government officials, never managing to secure any real contracts, until Chief Engineer Samuel Terrell hijacked a board meeting with the Board of Directors and government officials from The Federated Systems of Markren. Terrell proposed several revolutionary cost effective concepts that could be implemented sooner than any government projections, winning Tycho Corporation it's first major contract. Jim Corvus was replaced on the spot by Samuel Terrell, who later renamed the company to Tycho Interplanetary. -Eighty-Five years later, Samuel Terrell remains the CEO of Tycho Interplanetary, his health maintained by several biomed augmentations. Rumors in the company say that Samuel Terrell is more machine than man, and that his cold dead heart reflects that. -In recent years, Tycho Interplanetary has shot up to the mainstream as the leading underdog of interstellar ship design. Notable for its utilitarian, cost-effective, and reliable space ships in both the civilian and government market, Tycho has been noted as a significant threat to the current industry leader, General Galactic, especially in light of the fact that General Galactic must source its warp drives from Tycho to build interstellar ships. -Tycho is especially famous for its production (and optimizations) of the Ubina-Federov Drive (dubbed 'Warp-Drive' by popular media) of which it is currently the sole manufacturer. In military circles, it has become prominent as the co-designer of the Federated Systems' new line of military issue spaceships, including the oft-touted "one-ship navy," Guardian-class cruiser. Aurora Tayh, the Autarch of the Jovians, immediately ordered production of military technology to bolster the defenses of the Jovians against any threat. fifty parthis-class combat frigates were produced over the span of the century using the Joves' limited workshops aboard the home shipo. Thirty-five were fitted in standard doctrines while fifteen of the Parthis-class frigates were refitted with mining lasers and tractor-beam rigs in order to extract ore from nearby belts. Additionally, 80 large sentry cannons and 70 PD pulse guns are also ordered to be constructed. Along with this, a defense grid is built around Jupiter II in a geostationary orbit, to defend the Jovian capitol ship from any incoming threats. Along with this, Aurora Tayh orders the research into automatons to provide additional manpower and to conduct jobs that the Jovians find a displeasure to. Externally, the Autarch looked to the vastness of the New Cluster and sends 200,000 drones out into the deep dark, with reports coming back indicating nearby systems of habitable status. Four fleets were thus dispatched to seek out there systems. Upon discovering the indicated habitable worlds, the news reached the Autarch without any delay and settlement ships were sent to colonize these new worlds. Jovians cheered at these new developments, as living space began to open up and many could leave the crowded and culturally limiting spaces of the home-ship. In an attempt to curb the effects of the Jovian disease, the Autarch implemented a policy of a two-child minimum. However most Jovians came quickly to realize that it is essentially unenforced and went about their business, many distracted by their work or by the deep and unending depression sweeping across the population. However, included was a mandate to outlaw incest, with offenders being dealt with by execution, thereby forcing the practice underground and demonized by the public. Asteroid mining grew drastically in the Jovian private sector as many Jovians yearned for more luxury goods and entertainment, bringing in record amounts of minerals and materials for use in production. Becoming increasingly old as the years went by, Autarch Aurora Tayh decided to step down at the end of the new century, allowing her daughter, Kayleth, to take her place. Jovians welcomed their new Autarch without open arms, despite her mother's inability to curb the effects of the Jovian disease. Mass machines of production were created to fit the needs of Bears all around the globe, and all was well. High Chieftain Kerrtog, successor to Irtya, led the Ursataari through this time of peace and prosperity. At the Academy of Sciences and Engineering, in the capitol city of Thel'Vadam, a brilliant bear by the name of Mi'Khael Fa'day, considered to be a universal genius, discovered what he called "fission", the splitting of the atom, sending waves throughout the scientific community of the Ursataari. Upon hearing this news, Kerrtog immediately recognized the possibilities of this power and ordered the most brilliant scientists and engineers, to be led by Mi'Khael himself, to explore the field and from this came the Fission Drive, which would propel the Ursataari into the skies and into the Great Dark Beyond at speeds which was though impossible before. Meanwhile, scientists discovered a strange piece of data in the alien outpost back on Ursoc, which was deciphered to be coordinates in the system. An expeditionary force of scientists, engineers and flight crew was sent to the most outer reaches of the system and they found an alien construct, floating in this lonesome part of system space. It was quickly discovered and deciphered that this was an alien-jump gate which was used to travel between worlds and after months of researching, the team discovered how to turn it on and operate it. It was discovered later that through this jump gate lay several systems within the Ursataari's reach. Kerrtog immediately ordered the exploration of said systems and claiming them in the name of the Tribes. Within these systems it was discovered that they held jump-gates that led to other systems as well and those systems also held their own jumpgates. It seemed as if an entire web of these alien jump-gates was available for use to the Ursataari, and they would use it indeed. Along with this, Kerrtog ordered the Ursataari Space Program to launch satellites with powerful telescopes to observe the skies and learn from them, to peer into the vastness of the Great Dark Beyond. And to lessen to worries of the populace about the ever looming shadow of the now rare Klaxxi, Kerrtog ordered the construction of a first-alert system across the planet to detect any resurgence of the Klaxxi menace that may occur.
- + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - This Century in Focus: A view of the Imperial City, the Böse seat of power. Coronation portrait of Böse Emperor Martin Wilhelmsson Inauguration portrait of Leondros Alkanov, president of the Federated Systems of Markren Photo scan of the Federal Victory Medal, Markren's highest military honor. Billions crowded the stations built specifically to hold spectators of the coronation as Emperor Siegfried personally saw off the rebuilt Böse Navy. These mighty fleets were of particular significance in that they were not only the most advanced ships the Volk had yet built, but they were the first truly "military" ships, sporting armor plating capable of withstanding the heaviest fire (including the Empire's prototype missile interception systems) and powerful arrays of railguns and missiles capable of wreaking death and destruction upon the Empire's enemies. -The mightiest among them was the Koloss-class heavy cruiser. More gun than ship, the Koloss-class was designed around its spine-mounted superheavy railcannon, which ran end to end through the ship's hull. When tested against a barren moon in Neuen Rhein, the railcannon produced an impact powerful enough to level a city block. Koloss-class heavy cruiser, B.K.M. Sonnentempel -Suffice to say, Emperor Siegfried's first five years as Kaiser were some of the most popular in recent history. In face of criticisms that he would squander tax money on overly expensive military projects, Kaiser Reinhardsson silenced his detractors not by force but by proving them dreadfully incorrect. As part of a wide-ranging civil development program, the Emperor ordered the construction of a vast network of solar power stations to provide energy to the populace of the Empire. -For the last few of the emperor's first five years, everything had gone smoothly. A blissful peace pervaded the Böse realm. -That is, until the incident. In late September of 22655, a corvette patrol of the Second Imperials Strike Fleet discovered an unidentified vessel in the outer reaches of the Neuer Tigris system. Upon boarding the craft, the Böse away party discovered a highly advanced internal structure unlike any Volk spacecraft, military or civilian, the technological outfitting of which could only be achieved by a highly advanced interstellar civilization. Things only grew worse when the away party discovered the surviving members of the crew. Questioned of what they were doing in the edge regions and what system they had departed from, the leader of the ship's crew replied not with the name of a Volk star, but a single, completely alien word: "Domum." Taken to the Emperor himself, the now-prisoner crewmembers of the derelict ship were interrogated and grilled thoroughly but few could manage to even attempt understanding their answers, as they spoke in a foreign tongue. Linguists were brought in to translate the aliens' language, and some success was made in establishing a common medium of communication, though even-so they could not coax much out of the battered crew. In the following months, more and more ships of seemingly alien origin began to appear in the frontier regions of Neuer Tigris. Rumors began to spread all across the empire of a coming alien invasion, and entire planets began to erupt into panic, sparking stellar protests and riots. Beginning to fear himself that the rumors may be true, the Emperor ordered the Second Imperials Strike Fleet to relocate to the Southern edge sector of Neuer Tigris. That is where they would encounter a sizable fleet of functioning, flying alien vessels. People were proud of the Federated Systems and all it had become. Their great federation spanned over a hundred planets and dozens of light-years, an achievement made so quickly that the Systems' oldest citizens could still remember how they grew up in a universe contained only within the three stars of Vectora Proxima - the bounds of the Federated States had grown so rapidly that it all became a blur in the eyes of Markren's centennials. -Leandros Alkanov, our intrepid president of the last five years, though relatively young for a Markrennan executive, was a favorite among the older voting-base. Senior citizens who had lived in simpler times could look back and see how far The Federated Systems had come, and then look forward and appreciate the progress that Alkanov made every day in his position. Campaign promises of labor reform and job creation came to fruition during Alkanov's first two years as he made strides in assisting the corporate colonization of the stars, bolstering his popularity while the status of Markren's navy had improved drastically under Alkanov's administration. The culmination of the administration's reforms was three new military fleets, reorganized and rebranded under the Federated Systems Naval Command (F.S.N.C.), who took the leviathan mantle of Markren's vigilant protector of the spacelanes from the Federated Systems Aerospace Agency. -Aside from markedly improving Markren's military situation in the boundless battlefields of space, the FSNC became the personal crown of President Alkanov's ambitions, and a favorite of the news media, who eagerly spoonfed consumers every military communiqué, ship tour, capability report, and wargame. -Disproportionately present in the limelight was Tycho Interplanetary's Guardian-class combat cruiser, the result of years of co-operative research and development by the better part of half a dozen corporations. As the largest, most heavily armed, and most technologically sophisticated naval vessel ever built to date, the Guardian was a virtual celebrity and favorite among military enthusiasts, who shilled for the cruiser without end on forums and blogs across the Starnet. -Though perhaps not deserving of the quasi-religious praise many military bloggers laid upon it, the Guardian-class was indeed a god among mortals in the Federated Systems' ship lineup. Its newer, heavier weapons and armor notwithstanding, the Guardian-class came equipped with a powerful (and as of yet untested) electronic warfare and sensor suite, including General Galactic's new PENDULUM fire control and target acquisition software. No Markrennan ship could make better use of shipboard cannons than the elite Guardian-class, and this could be brought to deadly effect when coupled with the cruiser's Maraxon-developed Electro-Mag Accelerator Guns. -The FSNC's newly christened fleet lineup, to much praise, was headed by the highly advanced Guardian class, along with a roster of brand-new hulls. The responsibility of building, equipping, and supplying these new fleets rested on the FSNC's newly-commissioned network of fortress worlds and remote shipyards, built up to facilitate interstellar defense in case of a hypothetical extraterrestrial invasion. Suspicious of this dubious reasoning, a senate committee on budget misuse was formed during the election season. Questioned as to whether an "alien incursion" were a credible threat given Markren's status as the only civilization in space, project leader and FSNC General Malcolm Gearhardt denied any implications of an active threat. Still, the committee found no conclusive evidence of funding misuse and the topic was shelved. The Auriga-class destroyer, F.S.N.C. Oraxis One -With a push towards the new also came a drastic need for something to harken back to. Markren's military culture was one where history and legacy held great weight, and discarding that legacy was a no-go. It is thus that the role of the FSNC third fleet was taken by none other than the antique Oraxian 1st Homeguards Strategic Fleet, headed by that Federal System's first and oldest capital ship, the Auriga-class destroyer, F.S.N.C. Oraxis One. Though now antiquated and outclassed by larger and more versatile cruisers, the Oraxis One was the top-of-the-line combat vessel of its day, serving at the head of Oraxis's military fleet during the Insurrection War of 22596. -The five year fiscal period concluded with stellar growth as several corporations made their forays into unknown space, setting up industrial operations beyond the borders of the Federated Systems. Among them was Tycho and Kapamov, who each established mining operations in their respective regions, stimulating a sharp increase in jobs. Making good on his second-term campaign promise to incorporate and regulate these "nullspace regions," President Alkanov signed an executive order in February of 22654 to officially expand the borders of the FSM to include several new regions of space, including the Tycho and Kapamov industrial areas. Due to their relatively isolated and undeveloped nature, the systems of Sibera and Gemina have become hotspots for pirate and smuggling activity. President Alkanov has promised to tackle this issue, but nothing has been done as of yet. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Tycho Interplanetary Corp. - Zombie_2371
At a Glance Type: Corporation Leader(s): Samuel Terrell, CEO. A blip. Autarch Kayleth paced back and forth as she stood in council and poured over a century's worth of automated reports from scouting probes. Here it was, the one that changed everything. Probe No. 87350. The detection of a highly advanced extraterrestrial civilization. Proof of alien life. The council confided in the Autarch that the probability of these signals coming from non-Jove sources was extremely high. The Jove were not alone in the universe. Not in the least. Probe 87350 had detected not just one, but four separate regions of space that are definitively inhabited by some sort of non-Jasspeth spacefaring civilization. In a pre-emptive order from the top chain of command, a group of the best linguists, xenologists, and cartogrpahers was quickly gathered to form a small agency in preparation of what was to come. Thus it was named, the Bureau of Interspecies Relations (BIR). -JASSP was growing stronger with each passing day. Scientists aboard the research wing of the hubship were making strides in understanding the Jovian disease (though woth no possible cure in sight), and the population's births were slowly, steadily outnumbering the deaths to the disease. Still, JASSP was not ready for alien contact. The naval forces in a destitute state and nothing more than a small wing of frigates, the Autarch determined that the Jovian military situation needed to be re-evaluated. -Of primary concern was JASSP's aging frigates, some of which had been in service for centuries. With a much larger amount of resources at her disposal than her predecessors, the Autarch ordered the construction of a fresh fleet of combat frigates, armed with a new generation of powerful beam weaponry. -With the military readiness deficit reduced by some, JASSP commissioned a new project to bring the Jove back up to full military parity with their former-self. Having lost the designs of larger Jovian ships among other things during the chaos of the Jovian disease epidemic, the Jasspeth set out to restore their full roster of capital ship designs. The Valhalla-class light cruiser, J.S.S. Aurora Tyh in orbit of Jovia Secunda. -As a start the Autarch personally commissioned the design of a new Jasspeth combat cruiser to serve as a ship of the line in a potential conflict with other spacefaring civilizations. The result of this three year research effort became the Valhalla-class light cruiser. Despite being exceptionally armored and armed for its weight class, the Valhalla-class was designed with a focus not-so-much on raw firepower but high-tech force multiplication. Boasting a state-of-the-art twenty five giga-joule energy shield and a highly advanced electro-cyberwarfare and sensor package, the Valhalla-class is a potent weapon capable of waging war on all fronts, physical, logistical, electrical, and digital. Due to the industrial limitations of JASSP, only one Valhalla-class has been built to date - the J.S.S. Aurora Tayh. Still, this single Jovian cruiser constitutes a potent weapon in the hands of JASSP and a formidable leader of an equally capable military fleet. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The Domum Ecclesiarchy - Jsoldier
At a Glance Species: Human Demonym(s): Domumian Government: Ecclesiarchy (Democratic Republic) Leader(s): Council of High Elders Home System: Terra Terminus Home Planet: Domus Nostrae Total Population: ~330 Billion
-Skipped - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - Scorpious-Elon Conglomerate - Emperor Scorpious II
At a Glance Name: Scorpious-Elon Conglomerate (SEC) Shorthand: "ScorpCorp" Type: Corporation Leader(s): Leto Corrino IV, Directorate Headquarters System: Tauri Terminus Headquarters Planet: Tauri Secondus
-The S.E.C. In the mobile phones market, Scorpious-Elon decisively cornered a majority market share through aggressive "poaching" of high level project technicians from the likes of Infinity, Blueberry, and Agricola. The release of the new E-Comm Smartphone, originally a small, cheap design which eventually developed into the flagship mobile device it is today, became a boon for the burgeoning company, and quickly sent their profits sky high. On the track to secure a source of tritanium for their building operations, Scorpious-Elon bought the rights to several scordite asteroid fields. the corporation also secured funds for the construction of a state-of-the-art research and testing site for spaceship systems and electronics, a single part in a large network of facilities that would feed into SEC's brand new orbital drydock. Unsurprisingly and given their reputation among their competition, SEC adorned all of these new facilities with the best security personnel money can buy - recruiting started in 22653 and targeted Domumian special forces entering end of active service. What resulted was a security composed of highly trained elite ex-soldiers, ready to defend Scorpious-Elon's corporate secrets, and perhaps even do their dirty work. In early 22655, the electronics research facility, despite running five times as much as its original estimated cost, was finally completed, allowing SEC to startup its advanced ship technology division. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The United Federation - Nerfmaster000
At a Glance Species: Humans Demonym(s): Federals, ẞelps Government: Federal Republic Leader(s): President Lerrif Hallur Home System: ẞräi-Xen Home Planet: ẞelphöx
-No longer able or willing to bear the responsibility of civilization's aerospace industry, the United Federation pulled away from general government spaceflight and instead opted to delegate the responsibilities of colonization and expansion to private entities. Granted ships, financial compensation, and a healthy budget to build new jumpgates (which, thanks to the efforts of Federation scientists were reverse-engineered) corporations of the United Federation spread out across the stars, gradually expanding the Federation's borders. The enterprise-class cruiser was to become next in line in a long line of intrepid federation vessels, and she would be the best yet. Initial designs placed her at around 2.2 kilometers long, although this initial design never saw light as the hurdles of building such a ship could not be overcome by the Federation's current capabilities. For the final design, the cruiser was scaled down to a still-hefty 480 meters long, which, upon its construction, made it the largest Federation vessel built to date. The U.F.N. Enterprise came equipped with an array of brand new experimental equipment, including new helium impulse thrusters and a set of experimental particle-type weapons, which, as of yet were untested. Though touted to the public extensively, the Enterprise-class was also covered in heaps of red tape, for the Federation's top brass feared their new ship may become obsolete faster than they hoped. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - The United Clans of the Ursataari - Joshuadim
At a Glance Species: Ursataari Demonym(s): Ursataari Government: High Chief elected by council of elders from each clan. As he sat before the great pyre of the council's enclave, they threw in herbs and spices to stir the fire. Kerrtog breathed in the smoke and fell into a trance. As he opened his eyes, he saw his people, ever prosperous, and as he walked through the streets, he saw things that have not yet come to pass. Machines that walk on two legs, like them, helping the Ursataari with manual labour. Small pictures that come out of a platform, almost lifelike. Buildings that go higher than even mountains and break the sky. But then, he witnessed massive, alien craft descending from the sky, and firing weapons on unimaginable power onto the surface. He saw people being disintegrated in an instant, fires consuming everything in their path, and death everywhere. And suddenly his form rose to view the entire planet being consumed by fire, and death. Then he looked up and saw a massive fleet of uncountable numbers of these alien crafts. All heading to the next Ursataari planet, to extinguish life there. -In a cold sweat, Kerrtog broke free of the trance in horror and landed himself back into the real world. What he described to the elders shocked them to their very cores. They panicked, some thinking this foretold the Klaxxi making their return, and their revenge, upon the Ursataari. Others believed its a vision warning the Ursataari on impending attack. Kerrtog realized, if the Ursataari do not find the means to defend themselves in the Great Dark Beyond, they have no chance of surviving any threat to come. Ursataari jumpgates were built thousands of years ago by an unknown entity. -The next day, Kerrtog addressed the Union of what he saw, but he urged citizens not to panic, for he would not sit idly by and grow lazy. He would take action to ensure this fate would never become of the Ursataari. First he announced a plan to build a space fleet, for the defense of the Union both on terrestrial worlds and in the Great Dark Beyond. -Secondly, to satiate the needs for raw materials for building these crafts, 300 mining frigates are also ordered by Kerrtog to be built, for the purpose of mining on asteroids and barren worlds within systems held by the Union. But in order to build all of these, workers are required. So Kerrtog initiates a program called "Work Today, Fly Tomorrow", where Ursataari Companies in the construction sector are hired by the official government to build said ships with generous payouts. -Along with this, Kerrtog orders the military to form a new branch, the United Space Command, to recruit personnel for training and piloting of ships when finished. -On the homefront, Kerrtog also encourages farmers to adopt new machinery and techniques to improve harvests to feed the ever growing populations of the Ursataari. Large scale combines and harvesters are provided to farmers courtesy of the government to speed up this process. -And finally, Kerrtog realizes scientists and engineers are needed now more than ever to discover and create new technologies that would defend the Ursataari and help them prosper. He starts a new initiative, called "Bright Futures" which scans populations of Ursataari for intelligence and IQ, and extends offers to those with high rankings in both to join the Ursoc Academy of Science and Engineering. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - It's been a long wait, but it's finally here. The Böse Empire quickly annexed this region, an annexation which was viciously disputed by the Domumians, who claimed it was theirs since they discovered the systems prior to contact between the two civilizations. Discussions came to an impass and with either side not willing to give up on such a strategically vital source of room-temperature superconducting material, the Domum Ecclesiarchy declared war in mid-year of 22659. The resulting year has seen border skirmishes between the two Empires, but all the year's prior engagements would be absolutely trumped by the Battle of GBX-77LK - this strategic systems contains the bulk of the Böse expeditionary infrastructure, and taking it would turn the tide of the war swiftly in Domum's favor. It is expected that the two empires will bring their whole military might to bear in this one system, resulting in perhaps the deadliest battle in human history... The reality began to sink in that the Federated Systems indeed was not alone, following several government leaks that seemed to imply so. Campaigning on a platform of military readiness and Markrennan strength in the face of unknown alien threats, Markren First Party nominee Theorystos Rodrigos won the Presidency in a landslide against Interstellar Party nominee Viktor Lizarov. While Parliament was only lightly-hit in relative terms with the Interstellar and Progressive parties only losing around 15 to 20 percent of their seats, the largest change in government was the President's cabinet. Rodrigos's top-level picks were jarring, to say the least. A list of several appointees was created by the press: Vice President: Meckail Randasov - Former governor of the Federated System of Yanov and well-known supporter of the House of Light Party. Yanov has traditionally been a hyper-conservative haven. Minister of State: Kandasar Lychny - Former vice-president of mining megacorp Yanov Extraction Corporation. Minister of Defense: Yashar Kapamov - Former CEO of interstellar conglomerate Kapamov Heavy Industries. A map outlining major political leanings of various systems. -President Rodrigos made good on his campaign promises, his first action in office being a push for heavy research and development into the military sectors. The defense industry profits comfortably. A huge emphasis on missile warfare is seen in what press releases the military feeds to the public, with effective countermeasures also being developed to counter possible alien missile technology. Nothing concrete has come out yet, but the results so far are promising. -Tycho Interplanetary profits especially, with the commission of a class of dedicated fighter carriers, the first of their kind. The new class is set to enter production in late 22673. The Tycho Interplanetary Oni-class spec-ops frigate. The Oni-class is used exclusively by the ATF. -Rodrigos's campaign to safeguard Markren against aliens is topped off by the foundation of a new Federal Agency, the Alien Task Force (ATF) - a distinct military agency responsible for pinpoint defense against extra-terrestrial threats on all fronts - land, air, sea, space, and cyberspace. It comes equipped with the latest and greatest equipment money can buy, including its own line of military ships, serving as the first line of defense against any Alien incursion. -With the creation of this new agency, colonization confidence jumps drastically. Parliament promptly introduces subsidies for private expansion and homesteading, resulting a marked jump in migration to the outer systems. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -+ - The Jovian Alliance for Science, Survival and Progress - lintz
At a Glance Species: Human Demonym(s): Jovian/Jassper/Jasspeth (singular and plural) Government: Scientific Dictatorship Leader(s): Autarch Kayleth Tayh Home System: Cistuvaert Home Planet: Jupiter (Jovia Secunda) (Gas Giant) Total Population: 3.2 Million
-In the years following the concrete discovery of alien life elsewhere in the universe, the Jove public climate had shifted drastically. Lives led increasingly in luxury were now threatened as the minuscule society of the Jove faced potential destruction at the hands of foreign enemies. Autarch Kayleth, seeing Jove imaginations run wild with speculation, decided that steps needed to be taken in order to restore public order. The Bureau of Interspecies Relations thus took a step up to become to epitomal defender of humankind against any and all threats. A hefty infusion of cash and resources allowed them to kickstart their flagship project - the design and construction of a gratuitously large photon line cannon in Jovian orbit. Though production was well under way at the middle of the decade, manufacturing and resource allocation was scarcely able to meet demand on schedule, resulting in consistent delay periods where the production platforms lay silent, unable to work for lack of materials. BIR upper command estimated in January of 22660 that the line cannon would take at least another fifteen years to complete at the current rate. -While construction went underway for the Bureau's orbital death cannon, the Autarch tasked the BIR with a side project instrumental in the alliance's contingency plan for alien contact. A sort of "brochure" was drafted and created which would be provided to aliens at first contact, including information about the Jove and interesting places to visit. The Autarch came under harsh criticism for this project, with opposition accusing her of "not taking the defense of our civilization seriously," and "throwing down a welcoming mat for alien invaders." -With rapid emigration from the mothership to newly colonized worlds, the Alliance's various outer colonies have been gradually growing in significance, upheaving millennia of traditionally space-based society. With advanced technology available to them, some colonies have now begun the transition away from dependence on the Mothership region, and have started demanding increased autonomy from the Orbital hierarchy. The higher class of spacer Jove aboard the mothership, who rely on surface exports to maintain their luxurious lifestyles oppose colonial self-governance, while the middle class of station-board Jove living in various planetary orbital facilities support colonial autonomous governance. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -+ - The United Clans of the Ursataari - Joshuadim
At a Glance Species: Ursataari Demonym(s): Ursataari Government: High Chief elected by council of elders from each clan. High Chief serves as official ruler of all Ursataari. Leader(s): High Chieftan Partoc El-Brien Home System: Ursoc Home Planet: Ursoc Prime Total Population: ~573 Billion
With a space fleet being built for the defense of the Ursataari, High Chieftain Kerrtog could rest, for he was growing old with age and started to become frail. Soon after, as he lay bedridden, he declared in his dying breath, recalling the vision he received in the fire years before: "The Ursataari must stand ready, for when the terrors of the Great Dark Beyond send their worst at us... one will lead us out of the darkness and into the light." [This would become known as Kerrtog's Prophecy] Kerrtog died peacefully in his home after living a somewhat longer than normal life, surrounded by friends, family, and elders. A standard funeral was held with billions attending and watching as he was laid to rest in the sacred Hall of Chieftains on Ursoc Prime, built upon the sacred grove of Ursoc, where all the high chieftains before him lay in rest. Soon after, the Council of Elders elected Partoc El-Brien, of the Broken Tooth Clan, named as High Chieftain Partoc, to lead the Ursataari peoples forward. While this occurred, the Ursataari Academy of Science and Engineering, discovered how to increase the output of already existing capacitors whilst being more efficient. These "high-power capacitors" are sorely needed to upgrade infrastructure throughout the Union as well as in the star-fleet ships and mining ships that are currently under construction. Along with this, record profits were shown off in the Ursoc Stock Exchange as their markets grow throughout the Union, giving the economy a better boost than usual and more money into the pockets of ordinary Ursataari working folk. With the ongoing activities within the Union's borders, scientists in one of the research ships near the fringe system of Mayliu discovered an anomaly. A strange signal broadcasting from extra-stellar space, just outside of the Mayliu system. An accelerator gate was promptly built and utilized to reach this area of the Great Dark Beyond, sending the same research team and some military vessels, and what the research team discovered shocked all of them to their very cores: a massive construct, about 60 kilometers in length from end to end, floating in the void. As the research team boarded this construct, they discovered empty halls, dusty windows, and lifeless corridors. However, upon closer investigation, it was deciphered to be a jump gate of massive proportions, that could reach areas of the Great Dark Beyond magnitudes further than that of the jump-gates available within the Union's territories. Word was sent back to the High Chieftain as excavations and research began immediately, with more research and military ships joining the fray. After 2 years of arduous work and investigation, one of the Ursataari researchers managed to decipher how to turn it in and with a flash of blinding light, the gate opened. 3 military ships were sent with a research ship to enter through, and what they found was unexpected to say the least... The ships were greeted with dozens of alien ships crowded around them... around a similar construct. Immediately after arriving, the ships recieved signals however, as the aliens were completely different from the Ursataari, communication was difficult. They worked for several months to attempt to communicate with each other, but progress was difficult as the languages were so wildly different. Finally, a breakthrough occurred by studying the alien's patterns of rhythms that substituted as words and speech, which then opened official channels between the two ships. Unfortunately, this also led to a leaking of some sounds of these aliens back to the home systems, causing widespread panic and riots to occur in several planets, leading to military intervention to put them down. Partoc immediately ordered the science team at the head of these talks to ask regarding their motives. The aliens responded by stating they did not intend to frighten or threaten them, they were just as surprised to find another intelligent species in the cosmos, as they did not expect the gate opening and something coming out. They also revealed their official names: the Turai is what they are called in their tongue. They are a small empire of about 6 star systems, that had long mastered the use of jump-gates but had not bothered to expand as it was not on their minds. Partoc took this news well, knowing the Turai had peaceful intentions, however was curious as to why there were also the same alien jump-gates within their empire as well as the Union's as well as the level of technology that the Turai have. Partoc then opened up official diplomatic channels between the two, allowing for talks and trade with the two species. As one of the first to land on Ursoc Prime [with many Ursataari gathered around the landing pad to view this alien species with their own eyes], the leader of the Turai, Emperor Wexenth Periolith Cornuxi in translation, was greeted by Partoc himself as he and the Turai Emperor toured around the planet, showing off the many sights and locations (such as Blackrock Citadel), the arts (specifically music concerts), and the cultures of the clans. At the end of the tour, the Emperor was grateful for the hospitality and left the planet, both leaders on good terms with each other. Immediately afterwards, Partoc ordered the investigation and settlements of worlds outside of this super star-gate, but not near or next to Turai territory as to not provoke them or anger them. - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + -+ - Turns due sunday! Oh fuck I've forgotten all about this until someone said that all the RP threads are moved here instead. Was wondering why did all the RP threads suddenly disappeared.
