The World in 1872.
Introduction:
Nearly one year after the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War and the formation of the new and mighty German Empire (including the fall of the Second French Empire), Europe appears to have finally
achieved a near perfect balance between the powers at the hands of the ingenius statesman Otto von Bismarck. Meanwhile, in the new world, the victorious American Union continues the reconstruction
and reorganization of southern states spearheaded by a dominating Republican House, Senate and Presidency. However that is not the only progressive agenda in the west, for all around the industrializing
world many socialist labour movements, largely composed of workers and political and economic philosophers/theorists disillusioned & angry by the mechanization of production following the second
industrial revolution, are gaining traction amid a society surrounded by little to no regulation in the ever growing private sector.
Many European colonial powers have their eyes and pockets set on the increasingly attractive African continent, as well as south and eastern Asia. Just a little further westward lies the lucrative
East India Company, a crown joint-stock company and one of the richest monopolies in the world (as compared Rockefeller's more private Standard Oil Company) is beginning to worry London
and a final measure to officially absorb the entire company into the British Raj is underway. Meanwhile in the far east, the Meiji reforms in Japan are seeing the rapid industrialization and
modernization of the newly centralized Japanese society.
The year is 1872, and it is now your turn to decide the future of this world.
Rules:
• General Facepunch rules apply, but mostly don't be a prick. Fighting and spamming is not welcomed (at at least it shouldn't be) and be careful who you send secret information to!
• Realism is key - Don't do something that is too out of bounds with the region, era or even reality. It is recommended that you have at least some knowledge of this era and the nation you choose to play as.
• Each turn must not exceed ten lines. Any turn with 11 or more lines will simply be ignored, and please make them intelligable and interesting.
• There will be a maximum of ten players at a time, anyone who has not submitted their turn two times in a row will be omitted from the RP and a new spot will open up to replace them.
Guidelines & Information:
• Technology will progress on it's own depending on how industrialized or powerful your economy and nation is including stability and other factors. But you can specialize!
• Turns will last one year each. Meaning, for example, turn 1 will showcase the events between January 1st - December 31st 1872 and so forth.
• Add me and any other player on steam if you want to chat about the RP, including secret information between allies.
• You do not need to create a flag unless you plan on changing the one your nation currently uses, it is recommended to keep it stylistically decent thematically realistic if you do.
• As always, you must send me a PM whenever a turn is released using the turn structure below!
Turn structure:

Military & Colonial Affairs: Includes warfare, expansion and everything regarding overseas territories and autonomous regions.
Diplomatic Affairs: Interactions between players, requires both (or more) parties to include the same command for it to work.

The Franco-Prussian war has finally been settled as the humiliating Treaty of Hamburg goes in full force. Mutiny in China leads to a dramatic drop in stability,
a military alliance is formed between the United Kingdom and the German Empire, Japan and Russia continue their deep journey into modernization and Britain
legalizes trade unions becoming a world first. The Metropolitan Museum of Art opens in New York City and the president of the Unites States wins reelection.
Head of Government: Regent Yixuan (de facto) (Aisin Gioro Clan)
For over a decade the regent empresses Dowager Cixi and Ci’an have effectively co-ruled the Qing dynasty, preserving ultra conservative values and actively
working against any form of progress outside of military reforms. However, in a surprise move, the co-regents have opted for a reorganization of the structure
of the empire including but not limited to reforming and replacing circuits and prefectures with organized states, enacting full public freedom of religion for all,
replacing coinage with paper currency, ending lordship over the Joseon and gaining full independence to Outer Mongolia, Tibet, Uyghuristan and Tuva.
These proposed decrees were met with great confusion mixed with great anger as many of the Manchu old guard tried to process this information. These proposals
went heavily against the ideals that the regents had previously tried to protect leading many to assume that they have been possessed by evil spirits, fights broke
out between those who supported these vast changes and those who were opposed - swords were drawn within the Forbidden City and by the end of the night
several Aisin Gioro clan members were executed on the orders of Cixi.
Before any news had been spread throughout Beijing, the bodies of Cixi and Ci’an were found in the dining room of the palace (with the likely cause of death being poison)
due to the emperor’s young age and lack of any regents to the emperor, Yixuan (formally Prince Chun) was voted in by top members of the clan to take the place of the
now deceased regent empresses (who was even suspected by few to have poisoned them). Meanwhile, more ports have been opened for western traders in an attempt
to control the flow of opium.

Liberia, the small West African nation named after the ideals of liberty, has begun to attempt to live up to it’s name by making moves to integrate local tribes
through a form of cultural exchange such as teaching them western ideals and in return having them teach the Liberian ruling class aspects of their culture as
well as their languages with the end goal of uniting the country through national identity rather than ethnicity. Many members of the ruling Liberian Republican
Party have expressed concern over whether or not it was possible to civilize the native population without doing so forcefully; stating that the African race would
need to be born into civilization and that civilized behaviour cannot be learned after a certain age.
However through extensive debate the party agreed upon repealing and modifying anti-indigenous laws including the 1865 Ports of Entry Act (which prohibits
foreign commerce within the inland tribes) some radical Republicans have even discussed legislation that would grant birthright citizenship to indigenous tribesmen,
which fell short mainly due to the fact that many of these tribes would not have any significant involvement in any of the coastal cities nor governance.
On the other side of the Atlantic ocean, the Republicans of the United States have agreed to send monetary investments and a sizable amount of post-civil war
veterans (with preparations for the tropical environment) to Liberia for land development.

In further efforts to modernize Japan, military advisors from Great Britain and Germany have begun to train a modern Japanese army including the officer corp, navy and army
respectively and replacing the antiquated war office with the Department of the Armed Forces and having it be filled with Japanese natives who are heavily influenced by western
martial knowledge as well as a form of conscription heavily influenced by the American draft system.
With regards to economic policy, the Land Tax Reform Act, which should be in effect next year, was passed which not only was a major reorganization and modernization of the
old taxation system but also allowed for the legal ownership of private property and a uniform tax rate was put in place which made private landowners liable for taxation rather
than farmers with taxes based on harvest potential rather than actual yield, the far latter plan being questioned and scrutinized by some members of the Meiji government due
to “lack of incentive to make landowners care for farms in the dry season or harsher, less arable regions”.
On the prospect of future development plans the construction of the centralized Bank of Japan is currently underway and should be completed within a decade; which should aid
the industrial abilities of Japan from the inside, such as the proposed component of the national budget which would include payments to foreign advisers and other forms of useful
western knowledge with the end goal of fully modernizing the Empire of Japan.
With support from western nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom and the German Empire many cheap and abundant materials such as coal, various metals and chemicals
(including older industrial machinery) are shipped to the homogeneous island nation to help support the rapid industrialization efforts. Religion appears to be a weak component of western
influence as protestant reformers begin to set up missions in major cities, locals are reluctant to adopt or even entertain the thought of adopting these very foreign creeds & ideals.

Two years after a federal grand jury determined that the Klu Klux Klan was a terrorist organization, klan members have begun to be targeted and imprisoned by the federal
government through charges of terrorism. The radical Republicans have moved to push equality between blacks and whites throughout the nation and further investments
are put into the south to aid reconstruction of the defeated former Confederate states, and unrelatedly the first national park in the world had been established on March 1st
in Yellowstone, Wyoming.
The United States has always been known to be a semi-isolationist state, and many Americans are proud of the relative economic independence that the US has enjoyed for nearly
a century - which comes to no surprise that president Ulysses S. Grant’s push to annex the Dominican Republic as well as an attempt to intervene in Cuba by supporting an independence
movement from Spain was met by the senate with utter disgust and is seen as a disrespect for American non-interventionist ideals. Grant had used the Monroe Doctrine as an argument
for these interventions. Due to allegations of corruption combined with seemingly outrageous motives, in a 134-109 move by the House of Representatives, president Grant was impeached
for allegations corruption despite insufficient evidence, however Grant was acquitted later that year and remains in office.
Despite all of these events, Grant won reelection with 281 electoral votes on November 5th. Just a few days after, the Great Boston Fire occurs; destroying several hundred buildings
and causing $73.5 million in damages - with only thirteen deaths.

Much to the delight of Polish nationals, the Grand Duchy of Posen has had its autonomy restored becoming the only non-German autonomous region thus far.
However the Poles’ delight is heavily overshadowed by the utter humiliation the French had just felt as the Treaty of Hamburg was signed by Germany, France
and the United Kingdom - with the main components of the treaty including the formation of an Anglo-German military alliance known as the Pact of Hamburg,
The French Third Republic ceding all African territory to Britain and all Indian territory (under the management of the newly formed German East India Company;
Deutsche Ostindische Kompanie) to the Germans and the creation of a demilitarized zone along the border of France and Germany along with a few minor details.
The annexation of the Sultanate of the Maldives has upset many natives and even traders in the region, however there was little resistance as the archipelago was
integrated into the German India Colony under the jurisdiction of the German East India Company, trade mostly remains the same as British and princely ships
continue to be allowed to sail through the territorial waters. Further to the east, colonists were sent to Papua New Guinea to build a colony on New Hanover Island.
As German feet stepped on the shores they began to scout the deep and varied inner tropical forests of the island, the captain opted stay in the ship. What was
supposed to be a three hour scouting routine turned into several hours; the captain began to grow impatient and felt the need to leave the ship and go find his
crew. As he walked off and approached the thick canopies a dozen nearly naked brown-skinned men (donning what appeared to be medallions made out of the
decapitated heads of his crew members) approached the captain threw a spear through his chest before he could grab his pistol.

In a historic decision, the Report of the Royal Commission on Trade Unions of 1867 which helped British Parliament push for the legalization of trade unions, including
the ability to strike, was finally realized as trade unions became officially legalized, one of the first countries in the world to do so - British unionists and socialists rejoiced.
With the rapid incorporation of the British East India Company into the royal crown British advisors met with the administration of the British Raj and begun working towards
the formation of a Raj army along with fielding eight divisions of Indian troops within the next few years, a move which is heavily underway despite slight opposition from
a few princely states outside of direct control.
In the newly obtained Congo colony and the formation of the Central African Trading Company, the British Empire seeks to profit heavily from the abundant Congolese jungle,
many of which are too deep within the Congolese rain forest to properly obtain without some sort of scientific breakthrough. The Royal Navy continues to adapt and reform
as a new decree is issued stating that the size of the Navy must be equal to that of the next two great naval powers’ fleets combined (Germany and Russia), dubbed the
“Two Power Standard”.

Alexander the Liberator strikes again with more reforms including the creation of a formal government infrastructural budget for the building of railroads and bridges across the west
of the Ural Mountains with the goal of connecting all the major hubs including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novgorod, Kiev, Minsk, Warsaw etc. as well as rebuilding outdated, decrepit bridges.
The much needed modernization is accompanied by four new reform laws by the Tsar aimed at minimizing corruption and incompetence in the Russian economy, military and government.
These reforms include the repealing of the former judicial system and penal code and replacing it with a form of Napoleonic Civil Law - effectively modernizing law & order in Russia.
The second reform introduces mandatory conscription for all classes of men, heavily opposed by much of the elite and the Russian upper class. The extension and expansion of reserve
forces is also underway along with the implementation of fifteen military districts around the Empire. The third reform introduces the training of officers abroad in tactics and strategy
in an effort to reform the officer corps thus making it more competent.
The fourth and final major reform introduces mandatory public schooling funded by the Russian government (including the importation of foreign intellectuals in an effort to increase the
literacy rate among the population with special focus on recently emancipated serfs) however the unremarkable economy and lack of proper infrastructure around rural areas - especially
in the far east - has made this last measure very difficult to obtain. Following the recent ventures of Japan, the Tsar creates a refined military budget with a focus set on the modernization
of the army and navy with an effort to bring them up to modern West European standards, with indirect help from the British; who are currently investing in the Russian economy & manufacturing
most notably through the construction of railroads and the heavy extraction of oil on Russian lands.
Head of Government: President Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada (Liberal Party)
Following the death of beloved Mexican president Benito Juárez, fellow Liberal Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada takes over as head of state with an emphasis on centrist ideals including
relinquishing the restrictions that have been put in place on the Catholic church (including encouraging Mexican-based Jesuits to set up missions in China, India and Japan) along with
engaging in more capitalist friendly policies by providing tax incentives for business owners, capitalists & industrialists encouraging them to open new businesses and factories throughout
Mexico.
President Tejada kickstarts a well-supported aggressive nationwide project aimed towards fixing and improving upon Mexican infrastructure aided by hiring various railroad companies to expand
their tracks and areas of operation with the end goal of connecting every city in the country, including the very optimistic yet expensive goal of connecting every town as well which, in the end,
should help reduce unemployment rates along with improving trade & transportation.
Small groups of bandits and rebels are notorious for terrorizing the countryside, however very little was done until an obscure rebel group known as the Revólveres Oscuros captured a small
town in the southern Sonora desert, killing officials and selling citizens into slavery, sparking outrage and causing members of congress to propose an increase in the budget of the Department
of Justice and for the expansion of the police force, marshals, sheriffs, and deputies (supported by recruitment drives) around vulnerable less developed areas especially the Baja California and
Nayarit territories.
Major cities such as Mexico City, Veracruz, Guadalajara, and Tijuana have begun constructing new universities which focus heavily on medicine, law and general sciences, the construction is expected
to take a decade unless any major budget cuts are made between now and then. Mexico faces many issues that are blocking her path towards a developed society; including massive levels of corruption
such as nepotism and bribery, most notably within the military due to a longstanding tradition passed down by previous generations dating back all the way to the days of the Viceroyalty. The proposed
creation of a customs union between the Central American states regarding tariffs, trade laws and an open border policy nearly fell apart as almost all other Central American states flat out refused,
calling it a “threat to their sovereignty”. Guatemala was the only nation that agreed to negotiate this theoretical union with Mexico.
Send in your turns, I got 5/8. still need turns from:

That is the template for your turn, it has different catagories for commands which you can do just so it's better organized.
Everything that you want your country to do will go under one of the categories, so you just write it under that category. If say you want to pass a law in your homeland you'd make it under Domestic Affairs.
For example:
Domestic Affairs:
---Great Britian legalizes crystal meth.
So I've commanded my country to legalize crystal meth which it will do the turn afterwards. I PM Daniel that command so he can write the ensuring disaster that it will be. If you need further reference heres my entire last turn (https://gyazo.com/9eb8fa162a4601838b35f374e38ba220) I did classify somethings that the public probably doesn't need to know. *Nervous chuckle*

Anyway, I'm looking for investors to get the Panama Canal built. I can't fund it myself and I'm not going to let others chip Panama off of me in order to build it because "Colombia doesn't want it" for some reason.
Turn's in, sorry for getting it in so late.
My turn is now in.
