Well i think crafting really needs a megathread so that we dont have to have millions of different threads regarding crafting
i need some advice, should i try to craft a class specific hat or a random hat? im now at 2 refined, 1 reclaimed and 1 scrap metal
edit: srsly guys, why do you rate me dumb, is it because it makes you feel better?
Not enough OP content for a megathread.
And to answer your question, it's up to you. If you go for a random hat, then that means you're ready to accept ANY hat in the game for ANY class. If you want a hat for a specific class that you play, then the choice is obvious...
For me, I'm currently going to save any refined metals I get for when they add community hats to the game.
Well, if you're a career-classer, then you might wanna go specific, since if you choose random, there's only a 11.11% chance of getting a hat specific to your desired class. That's why i'm gonna be specific, and stockpile my Metals and weapons until I can craft a Soldier-specific hat with the 4 Refined and Soldier Token required. (the 11.11% and Soldier reference were totally coincidental)
Although personally I think that Crafting should be about more than just recycling Unlocks to make Metal to get Hats with. There should be more recipes, more items to make, etc. Like that comic where Heavy made a Hat from a KGB and a Sandvich... But it should be more than just useful for hat-making: I wanna forge weapons that actually incorporate aspects of both weapons into the resulting weapon, like combining Bonk! and Jarate to make a radioactive splash bomb of some sort.
I wanna be a blacksmith/alchemist (yay for RPG nerdiness!), not just a mad hatter. Crafting has so much potential: I wanna unlock it to unleash the potential awesome it holds.
I tried to craft gunboats and got bugle twice.
And the costs almost equal to a refined metal.
Aye, it should be a bit cheaper than that, too.

Something like this just wouldn't work out in a super-balanced game like TF2. (In before people whine about "unbalanced" items as if it would disprove my point.) I could understand maybe certain item combinations producing other items in the game, but not custom items that weren't already there to begin with. You're right; the point of the crafting system right now is pretty much to have an easier way to get hats, and honestly it should just stay that way.

Well, I didn't really mean to imply custom items. Personally, I was considering maybe later unlockables could be obtained via the Crafting system, like the Gunboats are currently. I know it's a little too early to say this, since we haven't even arrived at the Engie Update yet, but there isn't too much variety per class at the moment. There's only six weapons available for each class (7 if you count Soldier Boy's Gunboats), y'see. Sure, there's several loadout combos to choose from (7 per class in rough-counting), increasing variety a bit, but it still doesn't really seem enough variety in the long run.
Perhaps what i'm trying to say here is that it'd be nice for there to be more unlocks and more variety in future, and maybe Crafting's the way forward for it. Custom items aren't really on the agenda of my intentions here, but future unlocks probably would be. In my honest opinion, Crafting's got FAR too much potential for simply being an easier way to obtain Hats (although that's one of it's best uses so far), and could be very well expanded on in the near future.

They have no choice but to make it expensive because idling is so productive.
Well, personally I think there mightn't be too much harm in lowering the cost just a teeny bit... Especially considering the recent drying-up of the drop system, drops seem to have become a bit less common nowadays from what i've seen...

yeah i idled all night for 3 days in a row and i didn't get any drop at all :/
Didn't admins say that if a Megathread was required they'd make one?
And why do we even need a crafting megathread?
Why is the thread icon Gross?

Actually it's because you and your posts are retarded
[editline]08:52AM[/editline]
Every other post contrasted the thread idea and criticized something actually good.
well, fuck this shit
And you do that a lot.
