No fancy introduction here. I'm Excavus or my OLD OLD OLD forum name gonedead0. Let's get started. Here's a very brief description of the Pyro. We do not know what it is. What we do know is that only two things are known for sure about the mysterious Pyro: It sets things on fire and it doesn't speak. In fact, only the part about setting things on fire is undisputed. Some believe its occasional rasping wheeze may be an attempt to communicate through a mouth obstructed by a filter and attached to lungs ravaged by constant exposure to its asbestos lined suit. Either way, you wouldn't want to catch this thing on a bad day. Now, onto the tutorial. Some may say that the Pyro is the class for noobs, and the only way to play it is by pressing... [b]W+M1[/b] This may be one way to play the Pyro, but there are other ways. The Pyro is an all-around class. It can attack, it can defend, and it's the engineer's best friend. He can kill any class, there is always a way. My preferred load out for the Pyro is the Flamethrower, the Flare Gun, and the Axtinguisher. Some may want to pick the shotgun over the Flare Gun. This is fine, but everyone knows how to use the shotgun. I'm going to be explaining how to use my loadout. A good pyro will make use of all the weapons in it's arsenal. I'm going to make a list explaining how to defeat each class. [b]Scout[/b] The Scout is the fastest class in the game, and can run away from the Pyro's flame easily. There are ways to trap him from running away. When he's very close to you, use your flamethrower to burn him, then airblast him into a wall. This will stun him, slowing him down. Quickly take out your axtinguisher, and go in for the kill. If you fail to do this, and he runs away; use your Flare Gun to finish him off. The Flare Gun does mini critical hits on burning players. [b]Soldier[/b] The soldier is a tough one to defeat, but it can be done. When up close, he will most likely shoot at your feet, doing damage to both you and himself. Use this to your advantage. Start to burn him with your flamethrower. He will start shooting rockets at your feet if you are at point blank range. Airblast him, it is quite possible to backblast his rocket at close range, killing him in the process. At long range, you can fire a flare gun at him to get his attention then when he starts to fire rockets at you, airblast them back. This can be a bit tricky, but with practice you can have a dead soldier soon enough. When he switches to his shotgun, fire more flares at him, leading your shots in the direction he is moving. [b]Pyro[/b] A Pyro vs. Pyro is never pretty. It can be pretty disastrous most of the time. If he's a smart pyro, he'll use his airblast to push you away, then retreat. The dumb pyro will most likely follow him, falling into his trap. Not much can be said for this. If you find a burning player running towards you, use your airblast to extinguish the fire. He'll thank you a million times. [b]Demoman[/b] Demoman are tough to defeat, like the soldier. Up close, he'll use his grenade launcher. Backblast the grenades to keep yourself safe. Most likely, the grenades will never end up by his feet. You can use the flamethrower to dodge his shots, then airblast him up into the wall, then using the Axstinguisher to finish him off. When dealing with sticky traps, you can use your flamethrower to airblast the sticky bombs, or if you have a shotgun; shoot them. A W+M1 pyro will try to follow the demoman, but the demoman can lay stickies at his feet then detonate when the pyro crosses it's path. Try to avoid going the predicted path, and use the environment to your advantage. Never follow a demoman, it'll save your life. [b]Heavy[/b] At close range, with his gun unspooled, circle around him with your flamethrower for a little while, and he'll die. But if his gun is spooled up, airblast then run away. At long range, not much you can do about him, but he can't do much either. If HE tries to run away, just like the scout, finish him off with your flare gun. If he has a medic on him, kill the medic first then circle the heavy with your flamethrower. When ubered, keep him away from the prize. The prize usually being, intel, capture point, sentry, etc. Use airblast to blow him away, and if possible, blow away the ubered medic. [b]Engineer[/b] Sentries can be easily to take out even if you aren't ubered. Run up the the sentry with your flamethrower blazing, you can kill the engineer repairing the sentry through the sentry itself. [b]Medic[/b] Never follow the medic in a straight line. You can't catch up to him, cause he's faster. He has 107% speed, and you have 100% speed. And most likely, he'll be shooting his Blutsauger syringes at you. Those fuckers do a lot of damage per syringe. Best to side strafe. At close range, burn him, airblast, then axtinguish. Same basic formula. At long range, not much you can do about it. When he's ubering people, airblast him away from his patient. If far enough, the patient will lose his uber, and can therefore can be killed by your teammates. You can follow the medic and try to ambush him with your oh so trusty flamethrower. [b]Sniper[/b] At long range, he'll kill you. Best to take cover from them. At short range, you caught him at his weakness and your strength. Burn, Airblast, Axtinguish. If he's got a huntsman, or he's one of those hacking fuckers like αlpha, then he'll get a lucky headshot on you, then you can proceed to rage. Thanks to the guy down there, you can use your flamethrower to burn friendly sniper's arrows. When he's charging his shot, flame the sniper, and the arrow should catch on fire. And if you got a Kritzkrieg medic, have the medic uber the sniper, then flame the arrow. You got yourself flaming electric arrow of death. [b]Spy[/b] The Pyro's nemesis. I allow you to use W+M1 on this guy. He's pretty easy to get. Just spray everywhere with your flamethrower, and bam; you've found a cloaked spy. Thank you for giving this a read. With demos you can actually follow their stickies. When you pass over one jump crouch and you'll be launched into their face, they never see it coming.

i never succed using the axtinguisher because when i set anyone on fire i pull out my axtinguisher, they run away/kill me because ignite scout = scout runs away ignite heavy = heavy kills you ignite demoman = demoman kills you with stickies while chasing him ignite soldier = get a rocket in your face ignite engie = engie runs to his dispenser that sits next to his sentry ignite spy = not needed to axtinguish, your teammates will kill him for you ignite sniper = not needed to axtinguish since you have already killed him before he reacted ignite medic = shoots at you with the blutsauger while backpedaling, leeching health and curing himself summary: the axtinguisher fucking sucks unless you find someone afk but still just W+M1 works alot bettter

You gotta airblast the guy into the wall. Works 100% of the time for me.

Yet I've seen people that can do it, with the Heavy already looking at them and firing before they can even burn and airblast.
W+M1'ing a spy at mid to long range is a bad idea, especially if that spy has the ambassador and knows how to aim.

Trap him, or blast him in some wall or a dead end. ignite heavy -> don't w+m1, then get out that axe, you fool. Espescially not if he's got his minigun all spun up already. Either flank him if he does, or flank him when he doesn't. Rushing him head-on is suicide. ignite demoman -> if he's a sticky-whore, use the trick from a few posts up to get close to him. If he uses grenades like a good demo, blast them back. You don't use the Backburner, don't you? You better not. ignite soldier -> Airblast exists for a reason. Return to sender! ignite engie -> don't let him get to his sentry. Problem solved. ignite spy -> remember the fact that teamwork exists for a reason. You don't have to axetinguish everyone. ignite sniper -> what are you axetinguishing him for? Fireball the bastard. Oh, he's moving. You should have said so. Return the arrow if he has them, put in wall, axe-to-face treatment. Ignite medic -> don't hold w only, fool. Zigzag, zigzag. Airblast in wall, then cure him with your barbed wire-axe. Trying to combine the Backburner with our (second) favourite axe is like combining vegetables with candy. What's the point?
When facing pyro's you can run backwards and burn (if you know the way is unobstructed). Your flames will reach further because you are moving backwards, they hang in the air for a second and he will run into them, while his own flame will not reach you
Wait I'm not the only person who knows Alpha? I see him around on 2fort servers a lot, he's not that great but he does get those fucking close quarters headshots.
Since yesterday I've been trying that airblast + axtinguisher maneuver. It's very effective and most likely incredibly frustrating to be performed on you.

What's the point?[/QUOTE] no, im not using the backburner, since it sucks. and regarding soldiers when you fight at them like 5-7 meters away from them its kinda hard to airblast his rockets since you have no time to react and i killed lots of heavys through W+m1 by ambushing them. regarding demoman its hard to airblast back his stupid bombs, many tmes i tried that it only resulted in the bombs becoming my teams color but they only fall to the ground. this is my ordinary pyro layout 1.Flamethrower 2.Flare gun 3.Fireaxe

As for your inability to return the packages: three words. Practice. Makes. Perfect. If you try to reflect them more, you WILL succeed. Try to predict when the Soldier will fire, and anticipate his rockets.
You should mention that if you're good enough you can airblast arrows back at the sniper and even get a headshot. Also you can't ALWAYS just W+M1 a Spy, an ambassador in the right hands can rape you, even if you do get the afterburn kill.
personally I believe the normal flamethrower + flaregun + axe is the best combination seeing as flares do what, 40 damage on burning players? the axe is the perfect water weapon, and it's actually just as useful to airblast and whack someone with it if you're doing good it crits as much as the wrench

So that would be 60 damage on burning players, and IMO the axstinguisher is too useful and fun to pass up, espicially on Heavies/Overhealed enemies. Also all melee weapons crit the same unless indicated in their stats, like the axstinguisher. The only reason the wrench seems like it does so much is because usually your sentry gun is constantly shooting and getting hits for you. [editline]09:39PM[/editline] Wait I'm dumb, it's a minicrit not a crit :downs: So yeah it would be 41 damage on burning enemies. Even then, 2 flares and a bit of waiting can kill almost everyone.
