• TF2 in my games list but....

So for some reason I found I had been downloading TF2 when I opened steam for the first time in a couple weeks, even though I've never bought anything on my steam account and I've never seen a screen saying that someone gave me a gift. but for some reason TF2 is in my games list but when I go to play it, it says I have to purchase it. I checked my steam folders and there was just 3 files: team fortress 2 client content.gcf team fortress 2 content.gcf team fortress 2 materials.gcf what are these files here's a screenshot: I felt like an idiot so I checked my tools and there wasnt anything downloaded from there. I vaguely remeber some guy asking me if i had TF2 but I'm not certain...and if he did indeed gift TF2 to me then why would it be 3 files...
Seems like you somehow managed to get tf2 downloaded, try right clicking and choosing ''delete local content'' the game should be gone from you library then. Edit: Wait, you said you haven't opened steam for a couple of weeks? Someone possibly sent you a guest pass, but it expired.

It's the three gcf files, theres more files inside of the gcf's. When you first launch tf2 a folder will be created. I don't think you can check if you had gotten a guest pass.
so theres no chance of me playing the game? damn well thanks for your help dude ;)
If you've had a guest pass for a game, it will still be in your Library when the guest pass expires (in case you decide you want to purchase it afterward). The only way to get it off of your library is to right click it in the games list and delete the content from your computer.
You can't recieve a guest pass without knowing. If someone sends you a pass and you only open Steam 1 week after, then it will infrom you about the guest pass and the game time will only begin to go down from the day you accept the pass.
Isnt it obvious? YOU HAVE TO BUY IT.
Buy the game Just buy it, it's one of the most awesomeness games.
already have it(orange box) on PS3 I've no idea how those files got downloaded on steam since there is no sign of a guest invite or anything.
Do you have multiple steam accounts on your computer?
Do you have multiple steam accounts on your computer?
no its my laptop, no one in my family uses it, or can use it.
already have it(orange box) on PS3
You're still missing a truckload of stuff from tf2, ranging from new items for all classes (and the HUGE incoming polycount pack), more maps(more valve maps AND custom ones!)monthly bugfixes and patches to keep the game hacker and bug free, a respectable, big community, mods, drops (hats!) and much, much more. Team Fortress 2 is the most content filled multiplayer game available on the PC. Buy it.

By the way, the character limit for thread titles is way longer than that. No need to put half the question.
TF2 have a lot of fun contents now and new stuff soon and its a great game.
Keep ps3 version, but still get PC version. PC>PS3>XBOX that's how tf2 has shown in console terms, and I have tested it.
already have it(orange box) on PS3 I've no idea how those files got downloaded on steam since there is no sign of a guest invite or anything.
Yeah the console versions of the game are horrible.
Something tells me once Steamworks is released with Portal 2 on the Ps3, Valve is going to update the Orange Box on the PS3 to incorporate the features of the PC on the console

PC gaming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> console gaming (in most cases)
PC gaming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> console gaming (in most cases)
More like "In multiplayer games" or "In Valve games".
RTS games. 'Nuff said.
