• Why is it so slow to attack with the shovel?

I've held an AUTHENTIC World War II/Vietnam Entrenching Tool. Valve was almost spot on with this(the flip, shape, everything, except rust.) But why is it so slow to attack, to me, it felt like 3-5 pounds, at the most, and I swung it like in game, and I was about 10x faster, I don't know how strong the soldier is, but he must be pretty weak if he can't swing it faster than that.
Balance reasons.
And people shoot themselves with a rocket launcher to fly higher? It's a game, it's not suppose to be real, it's supposed to be balanced like napalm said
The only thing that I can understand that would be that slow would be the axe, and that's already pretty fast. Well, yeah, I know balance reasons, but seriously Valve, speed boost for all melee weapons? Or at least give a reasonable explanation while still being realistic.
It's for the same reason a piddly little flick knife swings at the same speed as a heavy fireaxe.
Look at how fast Gordon swings the crowbar in Half Life. Crowbars are as heavy as shit, no way anyone could swing that thing so quickly. Also, if I fire a pistol, no way is it going to spread the way it does. Said a thousand times in the past and will be said a thousand times more: It's a fucking game.
piddly little flick knife
I'm so changing the knife's name to this in tf_english.
I'm so changing the knife's name to this in tf_english.
I want that mod. Would be funny to see little flick knife in the menu.

In fact, it's probably lighter than the shovel, but I don't have the actual data, if you seriously are thinking these things are heavy, you should work out some. Yeah, Yeah, it's a game, but most games strive for balance AND realism.
I want that mod.
1. Extract tf_english.txt from Team Fortress 2 Content.GCF in tf\resource. 2. Open it in Notepad and ctrl+F for "Weapon strings". Find "Knife". 3. Change it to "Piddly Little Flick Knife". 4. Save and exit. 5. Put it in Steam\steamapps\Your User Name Here\team fortress 2\tf\resource. 6. Start up game, join a game with Smashman in it and laugh at his Community Piddly Little Flick Knife. [editline]06:35PM[/editline]
Crowbar isn't heavy. You obviously don't know your own strength. :v:
when we were throwing piss at each other to hurt do more damage, I think realism went to the fucking moon. Also, Haunted swords... Energy Drink with bullet dodging powers You can see through a helmet One eye does nothing to your perception Healing beams of love... ocassionaly invincible healing beams, paper masks are flawless disguises We had teleportation and invisibilty down in the Sixties Dying isn't really a problem, just wait a few seconds The characters all have backstories, yet have 4000000 identical copies Shooting yourself with a rocket launcher launches you into the air, If you stand around long enough, you will find shit You can carry a chain gun, and a shotgun, and still run at a normal pace where the fuck does the chain gun go, anyway Ther is no way the scout can run that fast, or double jump TO LONG DID NOT READ SHUT THE FUCK UP, REALISM AND TEAM FORTRESS ARE NOT CLOSE FRIENDS IN ANYWAY
most games strive for balance AND realism.
Do you even understand the meaning of "Most"? It doesn't mean "All games". Also, if you wanna know, TF2 has reasons, it's nearly a cartoon. I bet you have never asked yourself why isn't Bugs Bunny realistic, have you?
Actually, it would be interesting if the shovel got a speed buff so that the equalizer would have some disadvantages.
Actually, it would be interesting if the shovel got a speed buff so that the equalizer would have some disadvantages.
Then it would have a reason for a buff instead of just because people whined about how unrealistic it is.

It's more realistic in Half Life 2, though. The Pipe Wrench from OP also has a realistic swing speed.
Soldier is a civilian so he's not as strong as an actual soldier. :v:
My God. I'm not saying that it should be TOTAL ABSOLUTELY ALL-THE-WAY realistic, but they could at least, you know, actually USE it?
What do you mean "use it"? It works perfectly fine, I kill people with it all the time. Well, I used to. Then the Equalizer came along.
Soldier is a civilian so he's not as strong as an actual soldier. :v:
He has jumped on 1,455 live grenades and stuffed fourteen feet of his own intestines back into his stomach. How can you even say that.
What do you mean "use it"? It works perfectly fine, I kill people with it all the time. Well, I used to. Then the Equalizer came along.
Used it; Do what they intend for the soldier to do in game; Swing it
Used it; Do what they intend for the soldier to do in game; Swing it
These sound like the lyrics to a really bad song.
He does swing the shovel. You just can't grasp the concept of shovels being heavy in an unrealistic game. Like Valve went and measured how fast they could destroy their offices with a shovel.
That's really all you think about isn't it? Bad Reading. I'm not saying they should change it or anything, what I'm saying is that they probably didn't actually swing it. Or use it.
That's really all you think about isn't it?
Destroying Valve's offices? And why would they need to use it? IT IS A FUCKING GAME. They also didn't test how fast it takes to re-load a bolt action rifle, but there's no threads with people whining about that.
Destroying Valve's offices?
I was referring to the post above you, but once again I underestimate how badly Facepunchers lurk the forums.
I was referring to the post above you, but once again I underestimate how badly Facepunchers lurk the forums.
I too forgot how some people forget about a little thing called sarcasm.
plus, you have to remember that soldier is actually putting enough force into a one handed swing to cave in a skull, not just waving it around... it takes a little bit of wind up to give it that much oomph
They also didn't test how fast it takes to re-load a bolt action rifle, but there's no threads with people whining about that.
That's because the Sniper has more important things for people to rant on about. Like his piss.

I put some force into it. (That is really good for anger management, it felt so good to break that thing's head off >:D)
