• The Detonator is not glitched/bugged/or whatever and I have proof.

Recently, many believe that flare jumping was intentional and not a glitch. Many people also believe that the weapon is currently bugged and does not have knockback. Well I emailed a worker at valve, "Greg Cherlin" about this. This was his response. --------------------------- Hi Richie, I contacted a designer on the TF2 team and asked him about The Detonator. He replied: "It was unintentionally powerful in the beta. I fixed it before we shipped." --------------------------- His response via gmail for reference. http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/4931/capturedu.png --------------------------- You can cry now.
Well that sucks, they should add flare jump
YOU MANIACS YOU NERFED IT! DAMN YOU, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!
Why the fuck would they put a 20% explosive damage effect on the weapon if the explosion caused from the flare usually won't affect you since you won't be flare jumping?
Good, I don't want flying Pyros, They are bad enough with M1 + W and Puff 'n Sting.
No... No. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO WE CAN GET IT INTO THE GAME! WE'LL FORCE 'EM IF WE HAVE TO, GODDAMNIT!
I'm sad now. My favorite weapon in the beta will now be one of my least favorite weapons in the normal game. Thank you valve. I was looking forward to be a flying pyro. :smith:
Good, I don't want flying Pyros, They are bad enough with M1 + W and Puff 'n Sting.
Go away, we're mourning the loss of the most fun you could have as Pyro in a long time.
Go away, we're mourning the loss of the most fun you could have as Pyro in a long time.
Ok.
That was the most disappointing email I ever read
What about the explosion apparently lighting only 1 person on fire at once? Why does the detonator have so many problems.
Ok.
Thank you for being respectful at the funeral. <3
Editing it out of the bug section on the Wiki made me shed a tear
The Flare gun at this time seems more useful than the Detonator
Thank you for being respectful at the funeral. <3
We can probably get SLAG to put Flare jumping in TF2Ware minigames, or have it activated on certain servers.
The Flare gun at this time seems more useful than the Detonator
Detonator can light people up from behind corners, as well as more than 1 person at a time if you detonate it. I find it very useful despite how much I <3 the flaregun.
Editing it out of the bug section on the Wiki made me shed a tear
If it makes you feel better, I did that on my own and used my own thread as a resource. Welp
now we wait years until they make it usefull, like with original flaregun
B-but... No. I can't believe this. It was seemingly very popular with the community. People were asking for a Pyro mobility buff for years. Saying the flare jump was too powerful is like saying the rocket jump is too powerful. This is insanity.
Well the balance guys can just go fuck themselves then. :suicide:
Valve: "Hey let's take the most popular weapon from the beta, make it so the most fun part about it is removed, then release it into the real game!"
At least the wrangler doesn't give the engineer +20% explosion damage.
It would've been overpowered in the actual game, c'mon guys.
At least the wrangler doesn't give the engineer +20% explosion damage.
Don't give them ideas!
It would've been overpowered in the actual game, c'mon guys.
No way. I'm confident Valve can't give anything to the Pyro that would be "overpowered." The fucker got a melee weapon that did +25% damage and healed half his health when he killed with it (hell, it even healed if he had it out and the victim died from afterburn) and was only balanced by not having critical hits. If that weapon had been given to any other character, people would have cried foul, and rightfully so. But since it was for Pyro, no one batted an eye.
It would've been overpowered in the actual game, c'mon guys.
That's like calling the soldiers rocket jump or the Demos Sticky Jump OP
...and then it got nerfed :V
I'm glad it did, if only because I dislike weapons that are such distinct upgrades over stock items. I think it's depressing that vanilla Pyro has become so laughably obsolete. It's even sadder when you consider a Pyro with his most optimal load out still doesn't compare to everyone else.
That's like calling the soldiers rocket jump or the Demos Sticky Jump OP
You shittin' me? The pyro would be a terrible nuisance if he could rocket jump, because he can do afterburn, is relatively speedy for a class, and can't be lit on fire.
Quick question guys. Why would ANYONE use the Detonator now? Sure, the little bit of a flare jump you get off of it can barely get you up to the BLU spawn in Gravel Pit, but other than that it has no use. None. Zero. It's worse than the Flare Gun. The blast radius even before it hits anything is only big enough to ignite two people if you're lucky, which removes that purpose of it as well, and forget igniting someone if you hit the wall next to them because it will never happen, not to mention the damn thing doesn't explode when hitting alt fire half the time anyway. There are no upsides to using it and one downside: minicrits on an already burning target. So in other words, it's only good for one ambush technique on one map and it's intended purpose doesn't work in the first place. Because of those, it's downside makes it a straight nerf compared to the original Flare Gun. So why would anyone use it? Why, Valve? Why? Explain the reasoning for giving us a straight downgrade weapon. You might as well have given us a Flare Gun that when you press the attack button, the Pyro sticks the gun up into it's mask and pulls the trigger, blowing it's head off, because it'd be the same exact thing.
