Well, now we get to see all that stuff before it's officially circulated! Oh gee, it's like a dream come true...
They dun goofed. (User was banned for this post ("Meme" - Benji))
And then a bunch of whiny SPUFfers get into it and get everything nerfed to hell and back before its even in-game.
Excellent
I think an open beta is for the best. Although I personally love abusing Valve's goof ups before they officially fix them.
will be joining.
At first I was like But then I was like
Sounds nice, but I hope the final balance won't be decided entirely by the community.
Hmm, I dunno. TF2 has never seemed fit for competetive for me. Then again the beta could prove me wrong.
Valve need to stop listening to competitive idiots and pay attention to normal players (of which there are far more) Hopefully they will start doing this in the open beta

Can't wait to test the new hats before everyone. :v:
Shouldn't this kind of stuff be announced on the TF2 official blog? I am VERY sceptical until anything is posted on the official blog.
Didn't they already say this in the Robin Walker PC Gamer interview? What's exactly new here?
Didn't they already say this in the Robin Walker PC Gamer interview? What's exactly new here?
Yeah, I remember reading about this too.
They didn't say it was open, however.
They didn't say it was open, however.
I beg to differ. I'm certain they said it was an open (public) tf2 beta where they would be testing overhauling certain weapons and the such.
Haha Smashman
Wow, I didn't know smashman looked a bit like me.
They didn't say it was open, however.
He implied it. :v:
There are systems in the game that are tuned to specific numbers. The amount of damage the sniper rifle does fully charged, for instance. On a headshot it’s specifically tuned to the health of the other class, so there would be damage numbers we’d need to change. It’s hard for us to run that test and get good data, so, we’re probably going to gear up the TF2 public beta again soon and make it publicly available to everyone who owns TF. We’ll start running some more wide scale experiments there.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/08/19/interview-valve-on-the-future-of-team-fortress-2/2/
"TF2 public beta again soon and make it publicly available to everyone who owns TF" sounded close enough to "TF2 open beta" to me, too. :v:
I beg to differ. I'm certain they said it was an open (public) tf2 beta where they would be testing overhauling certain weapons and the such.
They did, they said it was open to anyone who owns the TF2 client.
He implied it. :v: http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/08/19/interview-valve-on-the-future-of-team-fortress-2/2/
Well PC Gamer is a trustworthy source, so I guess they are letting us try shit out.
Valve need to stop listening to competitive idiots and pay attention to normal players (of which there are far more) Hopefully they will start doing this in the open beta
Design a weapon balanced around good players and they'll like it. Regular pub players will use it and not think any differently. Most public players, like myself, like new toys, but some actually want ones that are fun, not just new. Competitive players know what works, and know what makes a good weapon. If this open beta isn't careful we'll get another sandman or natasha on our hands, not another kritzkrieg or buff banner.

It's amazing how many people think competitive players are a bunch of bigoted idiots, they're not, and they probably understand the game better than you do.
I once found a competitive player that says that the Spy only counters the Engineer's buildings, and that if you get backstabbed you are a bad player.
Well most the comp players I've seen are elitist assholes.
