I mean during the 10% of the time you aren't using a hurr shield, do you ever charge sticky bombs? I just either get closer or aim up slightly. I don't really every use it as it takes too long.
Only to get my stickies over to the other battlements on 2fort.
Yes, I charge the sticky launcher while I wait for an enemy to come into view. After reloading the Sticky Launcher, I'll keep the left button held down until I see an enemy come into view.
Like most people, I don't use stickies defensively, unless I for some reason use the Scottish Resistance. I prefer to rapid-fire air-detonate stickies in the general area of enemy clusters. This is capable of doing 30 - 60 damage per sticky on each enemy, depending on proximity to the explosion. I'm not exactly the best at Demoman, and I tend to overspam. Reloading the Sticky Launcher because of I'm trigger happy often becomes an issue for me.
In addition, I'd like charging the stickies better if the charge could be held indefinitely. In many cases, my charge is wasted because an enemy doesn't appear in my view by the time the charge caps out. Then my sticky launcher will automatically shoot whatever I was looking at the time twice. Once with the full charge and once, for whatever strange reason, without charge despite never having clicked a second time.
'Fixing' this would passively buff the sticky launcher, and that's not exactly a weapon that's high on the priority list to be 'buffed'.
Nope. I'm always close-quarters. The only time I do is to glitch my stickies out of the startup gate for some silly kills. I usually stick to my grenade launcher anyways.
[sp]Boohoo, I'm a cheater.[/sp]
I kind of wish they never patched out the ability to "hold" the charge, after that was gone I never really found a niche for charging stickies because it takes way too long.
yes, and I find it annoying that the sound it makes while charging continues playing even if I switch weapon to cancel the charge.
Not for close quarters.
It's pretty spam weapon.
sometimes I charge up a little bit to set traps from far away
Is it still possible to charge sticky bombs and make them go through the spawn doors in the stup time of attack/defend maps?
Yes, anyone else who actually uses the sticky launcher as an offensive weapon probably does too.
Rarely, but it's good for people who stay slightly out of range/backpadal a lot.
That is if the class is faster than Demoman. Otherwise I just catch up and use the normal distance shots.
Usually just the first sticky gets a charge. After the first one is out of the tube, I'm too busy pumping the air full of stickies to bother charging.
The demoman has been nerfed so bad, so i can't play with it anymore.
wait, did they make him op again? haven't played in like a year or two.

What.
The demoman is as overpowered as ever, especially when most of his competitors are now using the sord n bord.
oh yeah that one. i never get any weapons so i don't have it.
but the fact that a bunch of stickies doesn't kill people - no thanks.

It takes what, around 2 stickies to kill a 125 HP class and 3 or 4 for anyone but a heavy (provided they're not overhealed). You can fire the stickies very quickly, explode them without them having to be direct hits, you have 8 before you have to reload, if you place them pre-emptively or leave the ones you miss unexploded you can do about 100 damage when an enemy walks over one, you don't even have to be in an area where an enemy can retaliate to attack.
Stickies are one of the easiest and most powerful projectiles in the game, they aren't insta-win, but they will kill an enemy MUCH MUCH easier than you act like they will.
Not to mention if an enemy walks over a sticky by mistake or just doesn't see it you can launch them in the air and hit them with a grenade very easily provided they don't airstrafe too much.
As for the OP's question.
I only charge when I'm approaching or chasing an enemy down, if I can hit an enemy with a sticky that I can fire instantly there's not much sense in charging it, I prioritize people who are attacking me first so if someone runs away before I've killed him I won't bother charging a sticky to finish him off (unless he's a VIP like a medic) but otherwise yeah, charge when my sticky wouldn't reach a target otherwise.
I charge them for long range lobbing and airblast kills.

uh not really, at least 5 to kill a scout.
huh, they might have changed him a bit since i last played tf2.
All the time. Even when I'm in close quarters combat.
uh not really, at least 5 to kill a scout.
What?
You must be using your stickies wrong.
Holy shit. I don't play demo enough and I forgot you even could do that.
Holy shit. I don't play demo enough and I forgot you even could do that.
seriously? It's probably the first thing I learned.

You're terrible at demo.
seriously? It's probably the first thing I learned.
I remember knowing it a long time ago too, I just forgot. I think i'll play more demo now, been itchin' to swing my new v. caber into a bitch's face.
The hurr shield? Wow.
I didn't find out it could be charged for the longest time.
I only learned stickies couid be charged when I went through the Demoman training course.
And I just recently been playing Demoman more.
So I'd have to say no, I don't charge stickies very often.
I didn't find out it could be charged for the longest time.
It was the second last thing I figured out in TF2, the last being turning Engineer buildings.
I learned sticky charging because some Demoman in arena was using the ability really well, and I couldn't figure how he could kill me from all distances. So I looked at my ammo count and noticed the bar, then I figured it out.
Turning Engineer buildings was actually learned by a misclick. I first figured out you could like half an year after I got TF2. Before that I just placed my sentries in a wise manner according to not knowing they could be turned.

You should turn on damage numbers and damage sounds, seems that without any feedback you've mistaken a non-hit for a hit.

You must be using the Sticky Jumper, man.

This, makes the game so much easier.
Also lets you cheat a bit with engie, especially offensive, since you always know if your sentry is firing at someone even if you're away.
