Hey guys, I recently built a hackintosh with what I think are fairly good hardware pieces and TF2 runs like absolute shit, even with everything on either "Low" or "None." My computer has: 3.09 GHz Intel Core i7, 6 GB 1403 MHz DDR3, and a GeForce GTX 460 1 GB I can sometimes get my FPS around 30+ normally and 10+ in fights with configs I find around the internet but they don't work that well and my game looks like shit, and with my setup know I should be at at least 60+ FPS. Do you guys have any ideas on what I can do? Thanks. (User was banned for this post ("Not a support forum" - Orkel))
what video settings do you use ingame?
Well to get around 30+ I use everything either Disabled or on Low.
try using default settings and run the game in a lower resolution //try disabling or enabling multicore and or vertical sync are your video card drivers updated?
I'll try it now, and TF2 wont let me access my multicore settings for some reason. Yeah all of my drivers are up to date.
If it's because of hardware and you need even lower settings then please read this thread. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/774154-Bringing-the-graphics-to-a-bare-minimum-(Client-optimization)
@TheForeigner I tried the lower resolution and I'm still getting FPS lag and around 20+ FPS and @CakeMaster7 the whole point is that I'm pretty sure my hardware shouldn't be having these problems at all...

I have 6 GB. [add] btw lowering my resolution made no difference.
I have 6 GB. [add] btw lowering my resolution made no difference.
what are your current tf2 video settings?
Well now I have it back to 1280x1024 Model: Low, Texture: Low, Shader: Low, Water: Simple, Shadow: Low, Color: Disabled, Antialiasing: None, Filtering: None, VSync: Disabled
googling "tf2 lagging on GTX 460" gave quite a few results and also videos about it you can try http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1093560
Thanks I'll google it and see what I can find And I've come across that post before, Im on a hackintosh, which is OS X, and since I don't have an anti-virus that method isn't really of any use to me.
This is really strange. With hardware like that, you should be getting well over 200 FPS just about all the time with your settings cranked the whole way up (minus V-Sync, of course). I'm guessing it has something to do with your OS.
googling "tf2 lagging on GTX 460" gave quite a few results and also videos about it
I play TF2 on a 460 and I don't get explainable bad performance... :raise:
Well I googled around and nothing really helped me. E-102 Gamma, it makes me happy to find another person with my card that's able to enjoy the game haha. If it comes down to it, I might just have to take off OS X and install XP to see if it was the OS.
If it comes down to it, I might just have to take off OS X and install XP to see if it was the OS.
Since you have 6 GB of RAM, you should probably go with a 64-bit OS (like Windows 7). If you use XP, you'll only be able to use half of it (32-bit OSes can use 4 GB or RAM minus VRAM. Your card has 1GB, so you'd be left with 3 GB).
Ahh true, so I'm better off installing a 64 bit Win 7.
