Is there a download for it?
I would love to have the Beta Muzzleflash :V
Problem is that the beta muzzleflash is a model and the new muzzleflash is a particle effect.

So what, you can include models in a particle effect, as far as I know. But someone will have to do it, I've never used the particle editor, but it shouldn't be so hard, all it does is stay there and spin.
The beta mussleflash was way better than the particle effect ones.
I was disappointed when it wasn't there also :(
Yeah, the old muzzle flash fit the whole cartoonish theme way better.
I would love to have this muzzle-flash too: Ask Gabe and request it: it's the best you can do untill some genius on the internet releases it on FPSbanana or something.
The only reason Valve didn't have it was that they didn't want it to clash and cause too much visual gobbledy gook on the screen. ()
I love it, and if anybody undertakes the job of creating it, they've got my download.
Well the model is still in the tf2 gcf, all it takes is someone to replace the particle effect with it.

It's not a particle effect, it's a model
I love the beta muzzleflash
This is inside the weapondata:
// Muzzleflash
"MuzzleFlashParticleEffect" "muzzle_minigun"
Maybe you can replace muzzle_minigun in the ctx by the path of the model.

I would do it if I weren't on OSX right now. Anyone else?

You just replied something really, really useless.
Read before posting next time.

I'm SO going to replace it with the flamethrower effect

Hah, if it works that would be insane. Post some screens when you got it.
Edit
It might be a bit oversized though.

I'm going on a vacation so expect some screens and maybe a video in a week or so
Lame.
Particle editing isn't all that hard. Mind you, I've never incorporated models into anything I've done, nor tried shading similar to TF2's Concept Particles, but I could give it a whack sometime soon; and if it turns out good, I'll drop an upload.

How to open ctx files, anyone?
Just decrypt them with a ctx decrypter and open the decrypted txt files with notepad.

Don't recommend editing the files unless you know what you are doing.
So how's this coming along? Can anyone confirm that this works?
I saw a thread on FPSbanana requesting the same thing.
Some guys said he'd do it.
:v
attack!
I've wanted this since the beginning of TF2. Whoever finally does this will be my master forever.
The beta muzzleflash is perfect for TF2 because it's cartoony.
Even if it gets in the way of my view a bit, it's still epic.
Yeah, the muzzleflash effects are sprites (2D). I think the beta muzzleflash was actually an extension of the minigun model rather than a sprite.
Valve said they removed it because it distracted players.
Awesomely distracting
