Hey all. Can any one help me work out why I can join games, but can't play in them?
What do you mean? Does your game freeze when it shows the welcome screen? What happens that prevents you from playing?
I start a game, go through to the team select menu, select a team, and the game just stops, as if the server had crashed or something, yet if someone is using a mic or playing something, I get random snippets of it.
Does it simply put you into spectator and you cannot change teams? What happens after you join games? [editline] Dammit, ninja'd. I don't know how to fix that.[/editline] Damn, ninja'd, don't know how to fix that
I can choose teams, and I just found out that it takes about a minute to be able to choose a class, and then god knows how long to spawn.
Happened to me not any more than a month ago. In Steam, go to the properties of tf2 and verify the contents of the game. Hope this helps!
This used to happen to me all the time, on various occasions, and in different source engine games. This is the course of actions I usually go through to fix the problem, usually one of them will fix it. 1. Restart your computer 2. Run Steam as an administrator (From the steam.exe, not a desktop shortcut) 3. Update Video/Sound Drivers
I dunno if this will fix it or not, but try setting your rates to 20000 or so in console. rate 20000

Update video drivers/sound drivers are the latest (well, I assume they are because I don't know which model I have and when I went on a website with generic sound drivers for the make of sound card I have, it said the latest were the same as my current ones). [QUOTE=Netroger;20244598]I dunno if this will fix it or not, but try setting your rates to 20000 or so in console. rate 20000[/QUOTE] Already at that. [editline]09:09AM[/editline] Could it be something with my ports? Also, I update the firmware on my router yesterday; could that be it?
Also don't forget the evil .blob file.
[QUOTE=kaze4159;20246608]Also don't forget the evil .blob file.[/QUOTE] Didn't help. [editline]10:02AM[/editline] Right, I forwarded the ports Steam told me do, and deleted everything but steam.exe and the steamapps folder.
[QUOTE=Omolong;20246671]deleted everything but steam.exe and the steamapps folder.[/QUOTE] Wait did you delete everything in the steamapps folder? Or everything in the steam folder?
In the steam folder, bar the steam.exe and the steamapps folder, seeing as that is a meant to be a common fix. Didn't work, so I'm redownloading TF2.
Sounds more like a network connectivity issue rather than a software issue, but a fresh install of TF2 can't hurt.
If it is a network connectivity issue, what can I do to fix it?
Open up the ports: (these are for all steam games.) Steam Client UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive UDP 4380 Dedicated or Listen Servers TCP 27015
Umm: [QUOTE=Omolong;20246671]Right, I forwarded the ports Steam told me do.[/QUOTE]
oh. Balls. Ports, Firewall?? - either disable it or configure it to allow online games. Sound's simple, but do you have a fast enough connection to play online?
I was playing fine yesterday. Reinstalling did nothing. Can't work out how to do the firewall thing. Is there anything I can do on my router settings?
Hmm, well, just open your firewall, and look around for configurations... either that or disable it, which is a case of right click>disable. As for the router, i've never had this problem, usually if i can't get on a game, i can't get on full stop or i do the ports. getting in then not being able to play is a bit strange.. What are the spec's of your computer? because with my old machine i had trouble running games, then some day's it would work fine, then other day's it would cock about again.
Specs are here, in a thread about an unrelated problem: [url]http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=20160721&postcount=1[/url]
Oh. Well it's not that then. :P Shittt, i don't know, perhaps post something in the steam forums?
I could try. Though last time I tried logging in, it did nothing.
Do you have a software firewall in addition to your router's one? If so, make sure to unblock ports from there too. I don't know why it would do this, to be honest - there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this problem...
I just have the standard Windows 7 one. [editline]01:04PM[/editline] Just noticed that the server browser shows no servers. [editline]01:07PM[/editline] Well, the ingame one doesn't at the normal steam one shows them slowly. [editline]01:25PM[/editline] Disabling the Windows 7 firewall did nothing.
Just tried L4D2, and I can't play that either.
Oh balls. Hope you get it fixed. I got nothin' else, Everything I woulda said was already suggested :frown:
Forgot to say. I fixed it. Downgraded the firmware.
