[release]
WHAT IS TEAM FORTRESS 2 ALPHA?
Team Fortress 2 Alpha (also known as Team Fortress 2: Invasion) is a multiplayer, team-based first-person shooter, developed by Team GabeN. This alpha was built upon leaked Source engine code, and attempts to replicate the "Invasion" build of Team Fortress 2; as such, it features a unique Sci-Fi theme unlike any other official Valve title. It should be noted that none of the characters or locations are related to the Half-Life universe, another series of games create by Valve, although the "future" theme is present in both games.[/release]
[release]
WHAT'S THE GAMEPLAY LIKE?
The average Team Fortress 2 Alpha game consists of two teams - the Humans and the Aliens. Gameplay is largely based around the collection of "Resources." Resources are chunks that can be picked up by players, which are then added to the Resource bank of their team. There are various ways for players to acquire chunks of Resource. Such ways include killing enemies, destroying enemy objects, or collecting from a Resource Pump. When collected, Resources would be added to the team's Resource Bank, which would be used to create and upgrade buildings.[/release]

[release]
WHAT IS THE HISTORY?
When the Half-Life 2 source tree was leaked in late 2003, two Team Fortress 2 models were included, along with the Team Fortress 2 source code, which was fully compilable. They consisted of an alien grunt and a very stylized, out-of-proportion human soldier, both seen below.
In the end, this build of Team Fortress 2 was completely scrapped. Nothing in this version would appear in the final version of Team Fortress 2. One of the Developer Commentaries in the final version of Team Fortress 2 mention that they had made the game too complex. Instead, the team took a completely different direction when they began making the next build; instead of trying to make a large, RTS-like FPS game, they went back and streamlined the classic Team Fortress games for a new generation of gamers, then added a unique art style. This iteration was mentioned in an August 2007 interview with Gabe Newell by GameTrailers and a September 2010 interview with PC Gamer, in which he mentions "Invasion" as being the second phase of Team Fortress 2's development under Valve Software.[/release]

Did this need a thread?
10/10 op

Misleading as fuck.
Misleading as fuck.
How is this misleading?
How is this misleading?
I thought it'd have info on the "invasions" that acted as update teasers. Doves and Grockets.
developed by Team GabeN
WAT
I thought it'd have info on the "invasions" that acted as update teasers. Doves and Grockets.
I'll rename it Alpha then.
How is this misleading?
I thought it was more stuff about the Grockets, and something like an update that changed the main menu. Not the old Alpha.

What makes you think this thread will last that long?
OP consists of one sentence sections, and pictures with little to no correlation to what I want to know.
10/10 would read again.
Well, this got my attention.
I would happily read it all again. It was informative!

FYI that's just an old Half-Life 2 menu with "Team Fortress 2" slapped on it.
what a crock of shit you've cooked up
Also, Why wouldn't you just Copy/paste the wiki article? it's much more informative than what you have here.
Also, Why wouldn't you just Copy/paste the wiki article? it's much more informative than what you have here.
I'll try that.
[editline]20th July 2011[/editline]
The OP now has more infomation from the wiki!
You all are stupid. The actual name was Tf2: invasion. Just because YOU thought it was related to the grockets does not mean that's what it is.

The actual name was Team Fortress 2. TF2: Invasion is just a fan name given to this particular development stage.
Oh and obligatory "Rude".
I'm glad this isn't how TF2 turned out.
I downloaded and have been playing all day, its lots of fun. but i cant make the jump from battlements to spire to get to the resource pump, its actually hard in this game
I downloaded and have been playing all day, its lots of fun. but i cant make the jump from battlements to spire to get to the resource pump, its actually hard in this game
Yeah, the game's hard at first, but it is really easy if you get the hang of this. and in 2fort, spawn a couple of bots, they LOVE water, and the water is a trigger_hurt.
Slight bump.
Imagine if TF2 were actually like this, and what would've happened to all the silly TF2 GMod videos like SCOUT IS DELICIOUS. All of it would be wiped from existence.
and that's the story of how we won the Team Fortress 2: Invasion, folks
