• Problem with launch option.

So i've been setting -dxlevel 81 as the launch option, but i don't want to use it anymore and i want to set it back to normal. What do i do?
-dxlevel 95 then remove it after you launch the 2nd time, I think.
What dxlevel do you want? Whatever it is, just put -dxlevel [level number] in your launch options again, and remove it after launching the game once.

I think that's 90 then.
There is no single, one default setting; it depends on the video card. But anyone who has a decent system should have it at 95. An easier way to change it, though, is via registry editing. Start > Run... Type in "regedit" and hit OK. Registry Editor should open. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\tf\ and click on "Settings". Find "DXLevel_V1" on your right. Double-click on it. A small window should come up. Set the Base to Decimal and type in the value you want (in this case, "95"). Hit "OK". And you're done! Note that, in some cases, there is a second registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\x:\program files\steam\SteamApps\<USERNAME>\team fortress 2\tf. Be sure to check and see if it's there. If it is, just do to it what you did to the other.
How is editing registry keys easier than right clicking on the shortcut in Steam and hitting properties, then launch options, then typing in the DX level?
How is editing registry keys easier than right clicking on the shortcut in Steam and hitting properties, then launch options, then typing in the DX level?
It doesn't reset all of one's settings. And it requires fewer key strokes. :smug:
...What? Seriously? That's not ease of use. Ease of use is how accessible something is. It doesn't help that if you fuck up something in your registry, you can crash your computer. The normal method is several times less dangerous.
Then don't fuck anything up. If you do it strictly per his instructions you'll be fine.
But his instructions still have you messing with fragile stuff, whereas the launch options menu is more available and won't ruin anything permanently.
But his instructions still have you messing with fragile stuff, whereas the launch options menu is more available and won't ruin anything permanently.
The registry section for TF2 [or even the whole section for Valve] isn't fragile or dangerous. Delete it all and it will get reset to default. You're idea of the registry being a dangerous/fragile place is sort of like saying FOLDERS are dangerous, because you might wander in c:\windows\system32\
Does dxlevel go up to 98? Mine is set at 95, does increasing it to 98 make a difference? I have a XFX Radeon 5770 if it makes a difference.
some say there's a better quality in graphics but I can't tell the difference Though I can't tell the difference between 4xAA and 0x in tf2, so hm
