[release]
Steam Trading: Out of Beta and available to everyone!
September 6, 2011 - TF2 Team

It seems like just yesterday that we announced the Steam Trading Beta on the Team Fortress blog. That's when we looked it up and discovered we actually announced that four weeks ago, and over one million items and game gifts have been traded by beta testers since then. And that's pretty inspiring. Also, frankly, terrifying. Because when we say it felt like yesterday when we announced that, we mean we literally have no memory of anything from that blog post up until the entire TF2 team woke up in a tub filled with ice cubes this morning. We can't pinpoint specifically which organs we're missing, so we figure our best bet is just to play out the day and see if anything jumps out as different (no heartbeat, inability to go to the bathroom, missing circulatory system, etc.).
At any rate, as of today Steam Trading is officially out of beta, in the Steamworks SDK, and available to everyone. Two new games will now have tradable in-game items: Spiral Knights, the cooperative adventure from Three Rings and Sega, and our own Portal 2. And remember, this is just the beginning. We can't wait to see what our fellow gamers and developers are going to come up with to move Steam Trading forward.
To celebrate, items are on sale in the Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and Spiral Knights in-game stores.
If you've gotten this far into this blog post and still have no idea what we're talking about, don't sweat it: There's an entire Steam Trading FAQ online to answer any questions you might have.
If, however, you've gotten this far into this blog post and have no idea what we're talking about because you woke up in an ice-filled tub this morning, and are wondering whether that queasy feeling you're having means you "have an upset stomach" or "are liverless", please get in touch with us, because we'd like to compare notes.

[release]Thank you to everyone for all the bug reports and excellent feedback on Steam Trade and friends list changes. Lots of great info, it's very helpful for us to see everyones reactions to changes made in Steam.
We've done another Steam client beta update today, with several more fixes: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24299239&postcount=1
Now it's time to get a lot more people involved in trading! We're getting very close now to making this beta Steam client a full public release. What we need your help with now is making sure the new functionality works as intended, and importantly that there are no regressions in existing functionality from the current public Steam client. Other bug reports and feedback are still helpful, but regressions are what we are looking hardest at right now.
As all the feedback is evidence for, this is just the start of a lot more Steam client updates involving both Trading and the Steam Community / Friends list. There are too many good ideas to list, but it's worth calling out a few items we want to address in the next release(s):
- Better tools for finding & starting trades
- Trading of CD-Keys
- Trading of real world currency
- More friends lists features, including more tagging
- More games hooked up to trading
We plan on releasing the Steam Client update to everyone this week, and start a new Steam Client beta next week.

Finally, demoknight with a knight helmet. :v:
I guess this is incentive to get the gosh darn Sallet now.
Fixes and whatnot. Good stuff today.
Oh, cool. Now you can be a demoknight with an actual knight hat now.

OMG
Now do the same with the other hats that had files in the all_class folder :v:
finally all class sallet :)
To celebrate, items are on sale in the Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and Spiral Knights in-game stores.
Anjack9: 5 things are on sale
Anjack9: FIVE
Anjack9: Team Spirit, Gift Wrap, Backpack Expanders, and Desc/Name tags
holy fuck so can we trade spiral knight money because i have over 300k on it :L
Boring, misc2 now
Disappointing sale. Its only giftwrap, name/description tags, team spirit, and backpack expanders.
So how long is that in-game sale going to last?
Why has this come out of beta, it's still really buggy for me. whenever I recieve an IM some random item description keeps popping up over the screen.

I like this update
I dont think many TF2 players really want Spiral Knights items, maybe Portal 2 items even though neither game is as big as TF2's items. Still good to have the options though. The sale does suck and i expected a sale on keys.
Well, I'll trade Fallout 3 DLC for some hats or portal gear.
Hooray, the Gunslinger was fixed.
Still not going to wear it over my existing hats, but pretty cool nonetheless.
needs more Dangeresque, Too? equippable on all classes

That knight's obviously been using Gibehatspls.
No sniper is dumb enough to give a hat for a shield.
Still not going to wear it over my unusual, but pretty cool nonetheless.
...did you make this post just to say you have an unusual?
Anyone else having trouble connecting to steam?
