Hello folks. Many of you know me as jinn_ and I own/operate CommunityFortress. Just wanted to remind all of the competitive-minded Facepunch regulars that the registration for the CommFT-Zalman 6v6 tournament closes on the 20th of August. We already have a number of ESEA-I teams signed up among the 45 registered teams. We hope to have 64 teams by the end of registration so get on board if you aren't already! The tournament will be group play leading into a single elim bracket so every team will get a chance to play a few matches and every player has a chance to win a giveaway. whats the prize?
No thanks. Edit: Competitive play with restrictions on certain weapons is bullshit.
nvm, clicked the link
No thanks.
Everyone needed to know you weren't interested. Seriously, if you don't like it don't post it.
your community looks terrible, they're voting to ban every weapon past the christmas update
I didn't say I didn't like the idea. [editline]16th August 2011[/editline]
your community looks terrible, they're voting to ban every weapon past the christmas update
This is what bothers me. Competitive play that bans weapons.
I didn't say I didn't like the idea. [editline]16th August 2011[/editline] This is what bothers me. Competitive play that bans weapons.
"you use new knife for spy bann!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Gibe pin plox.
Welp, here come the uneducated pubbers to whine about how competitive is played.
Yea a lot of bans are part of competitive TF2 these days. So many weapons are hard to balance. A lotta folks just want to play Vanilla so it could be worse.
Welp, here come the uneducated pubbers to whine about how competitive is played.
What's wrong with competitive play without weapon restrictions? Hell I know competitive matches where you get banned for wearing hats.
Well the issue is that a lot of the weapons aren't A) balanced or B) suitable for the 6v6 environment. There's a decent but not comprehensive thread on SPUF explaining some of the bans I believe. Ah, yes, here it is http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1914754
I didn't say I didn't like the idea. [editline]16th August 2011[/editline] This is what bothers me. Competitive play that bans weapons.
do you play comp? If no then why do you even care?
What's wrong with competitive play without weapon restrictions? Hell I know competitive matches where you get banned for wearing hats.
If you don't like it, don't play it.
Guys, stop fucking complaining about the rules, this their tournament, they can ban whatever the fuck they want, and i'm sure they have their own reasons for it.
What's wrong with competitive play without weapon restrictions?
I believe that all weapons aren't properly balanced, and can make the pace of matches slower and more tedious.
Yea a lot of bans are part of competitive TF2 these days. So many weapons are hard to balance. A lotta folks just want to play Vanilla so it could be worse.
From your ban thread:
At present the ban list seems to be as follows: -All Uber Update gear. Yes, ALL of it. -Sandman -Natasha -Wrangler -Caber -Fists of Steel While we understand the reason ESEA banned Bonk! and Sandvich, we are not geared at present to ban those items. Could change. Sandman, Natasha, Wrangler, and Reserve Shooter (due to glitch where it crits targets standing on stairs) are definitely going to be banned. These weapons don't enhance competitive play in any way. Good money says anything from the Uber Update is fair ban game too.

Since it's 6v6, I'd say Sandman, Wrangler, Natasha, Full Sets. Period. Banning Bonk and/or Sandvich is stupid. Neither of them give their respective classes any superb advantage as the heavy sacrifices having a secondary weapon to defend against any close-range attackers, eating the sammich leaves our fat friend vulnerable, and dropping it is only a medium health pack and the scout loses his mid-far range pistol in exchange for a tool to check for sticky traps, deal with sentry guns, and, on occasion, get behind enemy lines.

wrangler shortstop mad milk and not bonk

Shortstop Mad Milk Sandman Reserve Shooter Ullapool Caber 1 Heavy Gloves of Running Urgently Fists of Steel Wrangler Vita-Saw Anything not on that list I think is fine, including "controversial items" such as Bonk! Atomic Punch, Atomizer, Liberty Launcher, Battalion's Backup, Disciplinary Action, Natascha, Tomislav, Sandvich, Buffalo Steak Sandvich, Sydney Sleeper, and set bonuses that are still possible.

Not-Esea Bans cause bonk banned. :<

I see absolutely no justification for the banning of Bonk unless the Equalizer is banned, too. As much as it pains me, if I had to choose between Sandvich or Bonk being banned, I'd have to say the Fat Man could use a little bit of a diet. Natasha in 6v6 is a little overpowered; Sandman is the epitome of griefing; Wrangler is just blatantly overpowered; the Enforcer makes the Spy just a bit too powerful for a balance for the class. While I firmly believe that full-sets on everything but the spy are complete garbage, you can't allow one without the other so I'd say no full sets. Tomislav is still kind of cheap, lasers are a little unfair, the reserve shooter is still a blatant upgrade barring the 3-shot chamber, and the caber is cheap as it becomes Team Fortress 2: Six Golden Coins (jeez, I'm old).
comp and normal(pub) play vary drastically. mostly because everyone is coordinated and actually good at the game.
comp and normal(pub) play vary drastically. mostly because everyone is coordinated and actually good at the game.
To be fair, there are some good pubbers too, that are individually better than some comp players but not really fit to work in a team.
From your ban thread:
Yea there is some healthy debate going on in there. Nothing is final yet, though. Anyone in there, including Free, is speaking from their ass if they say anything is definite at this point. Final list is forthcoming this next weekend.

Weapons are banned because: 1) they were added mid season. can't just change rules on the fly. 2) they aren't fun to play with or against. 3) they aren't fun to watch. 4) they're poorly balanced. Find me a banned weapon that doesn't fall under those three categories.
There are different types of bans, with different goals. Some leagues ban most weapons since they want to keep the game as vanilla as possible while other only ban weapons that are unbalanced or slow down the pace.

The rationale behind it was to prevent the set bonus from ever being active, since the weapon has no redeeming traits, it didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. v:v:v
I simply love the amount of stupidity competitive tf2 is looked upon with here at FP. "OMG what is this bullshit tournament, WHY would they have a 1 demoman per team limit!? Why the hell did they ban my Enforcer, its SUCH a fun weapon" 95% of the time the people that come in these threads to rant have no clue what comp tf2 is about, yet instead of actually going to, lets say http://communityfortress.com/ [sp] which is actually a great site that can answer almost all your questions regarding comp[/sp] and reading what the thread is about, you people start of with the same crap every time.
competetive play turns people into assholes true fact ;)
Holy shit, I didn't expect this of FP. People are even less educated about Competitive Play than SPUF is.
Holy shit, I didn't expect this of FP. People are even less uneducated about Competitive Play than SPUF is.
balance in competitive play is overrated i want to use my sandvich and gru and demoknight because i want fun Christ, you kids.
Ive never really enjoyed 6v6 competitive play, even though I used to be the medic of a team. Highlander competition is a lot more fun IMO.
