Since "The Sacrifice" DLC for l4d/2 is out, anyone managed to get that hat from any achievement yet?
according to the [url]http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Ellis'_Cap[/url] wiki, it might be from completing the campaign, can anyone confirm that?

Nope, I just finished it about 20 mins ago and got the achievement.
I haven't even been able to get on Steam since the release. Apparently this one campaign is more of an overload on the servers than the entire TF2 update was.

I'm assuming we'll either find out how to obtain the hat tonight or tomorrow, since they said they moved the "surprise" to Wednesday.
If not, then the hat/frying pan aren't related to The Sacrifice and will be given away at a later time. Guess we'll just have to keep our ears open for whenever Valve feels like it.

The Tf2 update wasn't 10gb though (I think).

It has all the markings of a promotional item: its item ID is right after Ellis' Cap, it's a reskin with no special function like the Sam & Max weapons, and it's untradable. It can be crafted now, but it doesn't look like it was intended to be.
Makes me wonder if Ellis' Hat is also craftable...

First of all, you can only get VAC'd for modified .exe's and .dll's

Well that would technically be a bad thing. If the frying pan is untradable even if crafted, then Ellis' Cap would be too. And if it's genuinely a mistake and everyone's going to get it as part of some sort of promotion tomorrow anyway, then you'll just end up with two untradable Ellis' Caps and be out of three refined metal.

This. The only [i]possible[/i] way to get VAC'd from using SAM is if you run it while you have TF2 open while being connected to a VAC-enabled server. [b]Don't open SAM while TF2 is open and you'll be fine.[/b]
