• Idlers, Delete Your Duplicates!

Just so it doesn't get lost in the other thread's arguing... I think I've found out how the idler detection works that Valve just implemented. You know how if you idle for too long without "delete duplicates" turned on, it places items in invisible spaces past the Backpack's 50 spaces? Well, Valve has changed the system so that when you get an item in-game and your Backpack is full, it doesn't just place it in an invisible slot. It comes up with a screen showing your full backpack and warns you that you need to either delete existing items to make space or delete the new item. There is no cancel button. The Backpack is now TRULY limited to 50 items. If it finds any extras beyond that 50, it'll probably slap you with the new cheat warnings. I forgot to take a screenshot, but these new strings in tf_english should be enough proof:
"DiscardExplanation" "You picked up this item but you don't have room for it in your pack." "DiscardExplanation2" "Delete an item below to make room or press discard to throw your new item away."
"But what about items that accidentally fell past the 50 Backpack slots before the update without idling?" The new system now automatically sorts any extra items into free slots in the Backpack. There is no longer any possible way to have items in non-Backpack slots without idling. This is Valve's foolproof catchall to filter out accidents and true idlers. That being said... Tell SteamStats to delete any duplicates (if you're still using it, you brave rogue) and delete your idle-gotten duplicates before joining a game! (to make room for any non-Backpack items to move in and not get cheat-detected)
Is this confirmed or not?
Tell SteamStats to delete any duplicates.
Seriously, who hasn't.
Shit. Thought I couldn't keep my low-levels anymore.
Seriously, who hasn't.
I'm just throwing the warning out there. I didn't have it on in case random-level items came back or Valve suddenly threw variant items out there that SteamStats might think are dupes.
This can be truth. Did idle 5H yesterday with 50 Items in backpack. Under 5H...nothing...
Why would duplicates set it off? (User was banned for this post ("read before posting" - Spork-Juct))

Welp, goodbye collection of 20 cloak and daggers.
I think this is for the achievement unlockers (the ones that send a signal to 'flag' that you've done an achievement so you can get new unlocks from the class updates) then the idlers. As I have said in another thread, I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that valve didn't plan on punishing the idlers as it isn't doing anything wrong. sure it isn't what they want but no wrong doing is being done.
They're duplicates. Who cares, if they are DUPLICATES?
Has anyone actually lost their items yet?
Has anyone actually lost their items yet?
Not that I know of. I've seen shoops, but no actual proof.
But I love my Pee-Pee collection... I've got like twenty :frown:
That wouldn't work or be fair. What if you just play the game a lot and don't delete duplicates? You'd be banned for wanting to play the game instead of arranging an items inventory. I wonder what valve would prefer?
I dont see why anyone would not use auto delete anymore. You cant get random high leveled items, and if you have high level items and you get a dupe, it wil delete the dupe as its lower level. And it stops the annoying wall of spam when n idler joins a game and dies, if they dont have auto delete on

This is fake; I idled over last night, went OVER 50 times and my TF2 is fine
It's put in there by valve to scare idlers off.
This is fake; I idled over last night, went OVER 50 times and my TF2 is fine
They weren't necessarily detecting idlers then. Nobody's lost any items yet. We're not really sure how or when VALVe will be taking away items. A reasonably trustworthy source says there'll be a blog post about it [sp]tomorrow[/sp] actually make that sometime later today. Personally, I'm just gonna hold off on idling until we know what's what. It'll probably be like when they tried stopping people from using the Achievement Manager- glitchy detection that won't get all the people who actually did it and might even catch a few false positives, then you'll be able to use it with no trouble. Alternatively, they'll remove everyone's hats under the logic 'There's no way you could actually find one without artificially inflating your playtime.' Clearly, hats were devised as a way to separate the elite VALVe members (who can get all the hats they want) from the normal players.

I got my items deleted because of a steam cloud fart. D: I HATE VALVE SOME DAYS (may get clocks)
This is fake; I idled over last night, went OVER 50 times and my TF2 is fine
I never said that this is for sure. I was just pointing out that this is how the system MIGHT work and to take necessary precautions. It doesn't hurt to pay closer attention to your items should you be brave enough to continue using the idler.
:objection: What if you don't have anything but 15 Force-A-Natures?
if i would get busted by valve would my entire steam account be banned alltogheter or just VAC?
Fucking valve. It is not like idling is a free hat program. It just lets you get stuff, while you are away, sick, or on the internet.
if i would get busted by valve would my entire steam account be banned alltogheter or just VAC?
Neither. VAC is an automated service and Valve wouldn't ban your whole account for a game exploit.
They better not!
