I played a few games of TF2 but have received no medal.
Is there any way to find out when you first played TF2? I want to know what medal I'll be receiving (sadly a low chance of Gold but a higher chance of Silver)

Huh, that's odd. The Orange Box appears as one of the first items on my "owned" list, but doesn't appear on the transactions list.
I remember playing for the Goldrush update... so I think I'm gonna get a Silver medal. *fingers crossed*

Think yer in the same boat as me. But, what defines Major? If by Valve's standards, the first major update would be the Gold Rush one. Otherwise, who knows?

Do they count when you actually played first, or when you actually bought it? I bought the retail version of the Orange Box when it first came out, but didn't have a computer good enough to handle it. I wasn't able to activate the Orange box on my new pc until May 11th, 2008 apparently.
Check your Steam store account and see when you bought the game.
I got it between the Goldrush Update and the Pyro one, so silver for me, methinks.

What's a steam store account?
To see when you acquired or bought TF2, right click on the steam icon, click settings. On the page that pops up, Go to "View Account History", which is right under "VAC Status:".
Once there, scroll down to "Recent Steam Store Transactions".
My Steam account doesn't show when I bought TF2 (Orange Box). It shows every other game though.

I got the retail Orange Box, so I have no idea when I got it.
The earliest date on my purchase history is January 10th, 2008.
Which is 3 months to the day that TF2 was released.
Why does it only show recent purchases? That's stupid.
Earliest purchase is Jan 9 for me. I'm pretty sure I pre-ordered so meh.
I collect receipts and I have the Orange Box one, according to it, I bought it 8th November 2007.
That's a Gold medal for me.
