Stop being so fucking butthurt and just enjoy the game for what it is.
No, idling using the idler, is no different than idling using achivement_idle. idling != cheating, your argument is invalid.
How were they wronging anything? They were running hl2.exe, connected to a server, and idled in there. The only difference being that the game didn't graphically display, and there was a third party program telling you when you got an item.
They used an application to take advantage of a badly planned item finding method that was obviously not meant to be for just idling.
No, they used an application that has the same effect as running the game in achivement_idle, but uses less system resources, your argument is still invalid.
They used an application to take advantage of a badly planned item finding method that was obviously not meant to be for just idling.
It's the same thing as sitting in an idle server, except the game doesnt display and a program tells you when you get an item. Why didn't valve punish people for sitting in idle servers? I feel like I'm repeating myself here for some reason.
They used an application to take advantage of a badly planned item finding method that was obviously not meant to be for just idling.
Nope, just because they didn't want to waste their RAM while they idled doesn't mean they cheated. You have an invalid argument. :)
Also, you won't be getting healed on many servers, with that "halo" of yours.

It's just harder to see who actually played in an idle server as opposed to seeing everyone using the idler.
Well I never said that sitting in an idle server was right, did I? It's just harder to see who actually played in an idle server as opposed to seeing everyone using the idler.
ITT: OP realises he has been beaten, changes his argument to try and pull himself out of the hole he has dug, and fails.
Come to think of it, what is a valid argument against the idle program? My fellow "moralists" have constantly insisted that hats are just aesthetic, blah blah, fuck off, but then call people cheaters for using a program that did what I mentioned in my previous posts, which didn't give them a higher chance of getting an item than anyone else, who just sat in an idle server, and to add to it all the items do nothing (except the weapons, but people could have just used steam achievement unlocker for those).
ITT: OP realises he has been beaten, changes his argument to try and pull himself out of the hole he has dug, and fails.
How did I change my argument?
Well I never said that sitting in an idle server was right, did I? It's just harder to see who actually played in an idle server as opposed to seeing everyone using the idler.
Guess they should have sat in spec on a real server then.
Well I never said that sitting in an idle server was right, did I? It's just harder to see who actually played in an idle server as opposed to seeing everyone using the idler.
Why is it wrong to sit in a idle server. As I'm sure you've argued before, the hats are aesthetic ("Why are you bitching about not having them etc"), so it's not really cheating now is it, the people just wanted to get the aesthetic enhancements faster, and those who didn't want to use resources while idling got fucked, while people who buttfucked their system for hours on end didn't.
Guess they should have sat in spec on a real server then.
Both are equally bad, and if it was up to me all idlers would lose their items no matter if they used the idling program or not.
How did I change my argument?
you first said using the idler was wrong, now you are saying idling in any server is wrong, even though you have probably done this yourself, your argument is still invalid.
I don't agree that it's cheating but to just make a thread and say, "You're wrong, I'm right, stfu," without any support to explain why it's cheating is pretty immature.
Enough of these damn threads.
you first said using the idler was wrong, now you are saying idling in any server is wrong, even though you have probably done this yourself, your argument is still invalid.
No, I have never idled in a server, and how are those two things contradicting eachother? Besides, I never even said using the idler was wrong, I said that "You knew what you were doing was wrong, now stop crying" and I also told you to "Enjoy the game for what it is"

This thread fails, but it was a good opportunity to debunk the claims that the idler was cheating, and at least that was done well without a shitstorm of spam in between the proper points. [editline]08:20AM[/editline]
You were saying I changed my argument by saying that idling on a server was wrong, but I never said the opposite anywhere, so how did I change my argument?
Stop moving the target. Classic logical fallacy.
Couldn't you people have just asked for a change, instead of using a 3rd Party Program to increase your chances? I mean, Idlers say We have no lives, but they're the ones Downloading various programs just for a collection of pixels.
Idling with the idler does not run hl2.exe, it modifies the steam files to think it's running and connects to a server. You aren't running TF2, Steam only thinks you are. Seems like a cheat/exploit to me.

You should really direct your unjustifed rage at vlave. they're the ones who didn't like you idling, they're the ones who gave us the halo. They gave us a hat, we shall wear it. Take it up with them, not us.
actually, it's not a collection of pixels, until it is rendered, it's a 3d model, your argument is invalid.
3D models are rendered as pixels, they aren't physical 3D objects inside your monitor. your argument is invalid
using the idle program isn't wrong, since its practically being on a idle server but without the hl2.exe process eating up all your memory and CPU edit:
i don't heal people with halos.
neither do i
Idling with the idler does not run hl2.exe, it modifies the steam files to think it's running and connects to a server. You aren't running TF2, Steam only thinks you are. So your argument is basically that VALVE should punish people because they used a different program to do the exact same thing? Tisk Tisk. Valve should be more logical than that. They ARE programmers, and know the unlock system inside out after all.
