Now, don't get me wrong, I love the official TF2 wiki at wiki.teamfortress.com because it is awesome. What I cannot stand in the least, however, is the stupid old TF2Wiki.net. Let's try something, shall we. I'll Google Eyelander and see what happens. The very first one is the tf2wiki.net page (the official wiki isn't until halfway down). When I click the link, a pop-up is immediately blocked and I see two huge ads atop the page. Scrolling down, I see two more. Clicking on a link pops up another ad. This stupid, ad-infested site is the reason why I was so glad the official wiki was released. But wait! If there is now an official, ad-free wiki, why is TF2wiki.net still online? More importantly, why is it still on Google as the most relevant? This site needs to die. It needs to be dismantled and deleted until all that remains is a redirect to wiki.teamfortress.com. TL;DR: TF2wiki.net has been replaced by a site that doesn't suck, so it needs to leave. [sp]inb4 smashman[/sp]
The original owner of the site doesn't want to take it down, that's why it's still up
The original owner of the site doesn't want to take it down, that's why it's still up
I literally can't imagine why..
I literally can't imagine why..
He still gets money from ads I suppose.
And people think thats the only site.
I don't like it because it's super slow and unresponsive 90% of the time I try to access it.
Added benefit: You won't get a Wiki Cap for editing that old piece of shit Wiki.
I agree heartily. I have no idea why we're not even second let along first on Google. It's incredibly annoying.
That's pretty dumb, sadly Valve can't take it down for him. :eng99:
I always forget about the official wiki. Fucking pisses me off that, for the past week, I've been checking TF2wiki.net to look for official info on polycount/mannconomy shit and it's all very incomplete.
Yeah it's pretty annoying.
I wish the google results didnt constantly return the tf2wiki.net page instead of the official one
I wish there was a way of making Google change every single link to a link to us. But I seriously doubt they'd do it. Should I email them anyway?
I wish there was a way of making Google change every single link to a link to us. But I seriously doubt they'd do it. Should I email them anyway?
That is not how a search engine works.
Hence my doubt. Shame though. :frown:
Official wiki is so much better. Old one is just taking up space.
I wonder who's keeping that POS alive...
Lord knows how many times I've accidentally gone to that one instead of the official one.
That annoyed me too, now I just got to tf2.com and then click on official wiki link and search there.
You can probably get a Firefox extension that redirects a domain to another for you. Although these problems would be sorted if they just let it ruddy die.
Yeah, it's annoying to get it as first result instead of the official one.
The funniest thing is the Wiki owner deleted the page detailing the blog post where Valve announced the new Wiki.
tf2wiki pls go
Add the official to your favourites.
wiki.teamfortress.com needs some SEO just like any other website, valve probably dont care enough to pay for it.
tf2wiki go away nobody likes you
#REDIRECT [[The better TF2wiki]] If only :sigh:
wiki.teamfortress2.com needs some SEO just like any other website, valve probably dont care enough to pay for it.
That's not even the right domain...
You can probably get a Firefox extension that redirects a domain to another for you. Although these problems would be sorted if they just let it ruddy die.
But not everyone uses Firefox. :colbert:
But not everyone uses Firefox. :colbert:
True enough. Merely making a suggestion.
