I've been playing TF2 since beta, and I miss old times.
I found that really awesome for some reason.
I liked the old TF2 too, but... I... need my hats :saddowns:
It went from war themed team game to HAT TRADE MANN CO. THE GAME.
That was actually a well played video
Some of the updates I felt improved general game-play experience, like the medic update, but others just sucked. The polycount update added a shit ton of items that weren't needed and didn't solve a class problem (save the Heavy and GRU). Instead, it just changed a way to play a class (Saharan Spy for example).
I think TF2 would be better off if it just kept the official updates and changed the ones that were flawed (scout).
The next updates should only involve new maps/gameplay modes, hats, and patches. The updates now are just trying to gild the lily.
Nothing too great. Just another rant video about hats.
I liked TF2 better without all the major updates.
Play on a vanilla server.
And no, I'm glad the updates happened. Some of my fondest memories playing TF2 were the painstaking hours I spent with my friends trying to get all of the medic achievements.
I remember seeing my friend's Kritzkrieg and being all "OH GOD I'M SO JEALOUS"
this just in:
hats don't affect gameplay, more than half of the hats look good, without hats and new weapons tf2 would be dead already.

It would be nice if Valve implemented a Vanilla gamemode so I can stop seeing goddamn bitch and moan threads every day

sad, but true.
Exited out after I saw Fearlezz in the video.

It's called "Steam is down for maintenance, you miss the Degreaser now don't you?"
Exited out after I saw Fearlezz in the video.
Well, then you just missed a good video.
Music was good, camera work good
I would have preferred if it were in super slow motion rather than motionless.

Exactly this.
If you weren't going to add hats to TF2 to keep it interesting, what would you add?
I hate people on Facepunch that think vanilla everything is great. New content has to be added or the game dies.
Saw it on Youtube first, so I guess I get a cookie?
I dunno, I think Team Fortress 2 still has good mechanics, and it's still an all around good game, but I wish that cosmetic items didn't cause such serious stuff, like the wrench VACs, Halocaust, etc. I still enjoy the game a lot, don't get me wrong, but hats really caused problems, and still do.
Actually, I think it isn't host_timescale 0. I see them moving their legs a little, but I think it's just some sort of cool illusion.
Personally I thought after the War Update things went downhill.
I just played 07 tf2 aka when the backpacks where down the game felt so balanced and no shitty hats.
Talking about hats summons me.
Exactly this.

The game would stay alive regardless of whether or not there is new content being published. Team Fortress 2 is a good game with a dedicated community. Regardless, that isn't the point; the point is that the quality of the content is gradually declining.
Hats add nothing to gameplay; they do, however, detract from the distinct aesthetic style of the game and distract the community from the game itself. Some of the more recent, community-made hats are simply ugly and out-of-place.
The majority of the new weapons are poorly though-out, and somewhat imbalanced; worse, they do not appear to have a specific purpose - formerly, weapons were designed with the intention of rectifying issues which classes exhibited (The Axetinguisher allows the Pyro to quickly kill classes that might otherwise endure burn damage; the Ambassador gives the Spy the capability for burst damage; the Razorback eliminates one of the Sniper's most glaring weaknesses - for a price). In contrast, the Polycount weapons seem to either have no explicit purpose or address issues in a less effective manner. The Degreaser is a flat-out upgrade to the Axetinguisher - unnecessary. The Black Box directly affects the Soldier's survivability in the midst of battle - the Equalizer and the Buff Banner (the Backup's Battalion actually does this right) gives the Soldier survivability indirectly, keeping balance intact during battle. Do I even need to talk about the Shortstop?
If you want an earlier example, look at the Demoknight. They addressed the Demoman's deficiency for close-quarters combat the wrong way, essentially creating a new, slightly imbalanced sub-class (killing a Demoknight while playing classic Demo is infuriating).
By the way, when are we going to get a new Meet the Team video?! How long has it been?
This needs to be in 3D.
We got new weapons, maps, gamemodes, mechanics and effects.
We also recived harmless items that can appear above our characters head.
The latter is what you can completely ignore if you really wish to.
So, what's the problem with hats again ?

That is a very wrong assumption, Team fortress classic had a very high fan base for 8 years
Halo. Parasite hats. They are horribly popular and very, VERY ugly. While other hats at least TRY to keep TF2 theme (Pot is acceptable, hotrod is acceptable, Ellis Cap/Mann Co cap are decent), but then horrible shit comes - as I said before - Parasites, halos, gibuses. Or that new demos hat. These are really bad, and/or completely destroy TF2 theme. Then there comes something weird with valve - their addons are really lowering their quality. Hi-poly yet simple Direct Hit, problems with over-shining, badly modelled stuff (ambassador hi). Really useless stuff that has no real, good purpose - Vita-Saw. Weapons that don't change your gameplay, only do some fiddle-diddle and you don't even notice that you have different weapon.
I really respect valve, I was like "Damn, I have no idea how valve will do that, but I am pretty sure that they will make it right" before. The result was always "Holy shit it's awesome!". Now it's more like forced "Well, okay".
I do realize they release their work free. But they should keep their quality, I don't want to see that type of things in their new games like Portal 2 or DotA 2!
I don't get it. People would like it better if the game never received updates and died within a year?
I personally think that TF2 would have been better without hats.
Don't get me wrong, I love TF2 oh-so very much, but all these cosmetics are making TF2 seem like a collection game rather than a FPS. I admit that I care too deeply about hats, and I hate myself for it. I wish I could just play the game for how it is.
I do play the game quite often, almost everyday, but in the back of my head, I just keep getting bugged by that voice in my head that says: "I wonder when my next hat drop will be?" or "When I collect enough metal, I can...." or mostly: "I can't wait 'till drops reset!".
It makes me sad. I just want to be carefree like I was when I first bought the game.
This video makes me think that Valve should really update the screenshots of TF2 on the store.
Hell, that would be an awesome community event.

That's a dumb assumption. People would love updates - updates that fixed gameplay issues, made new maps, new gamemodes, and brought the game in general back to what it was meant to be - a war-themed, class-based game.
Polycount update was okay though, I felt. GRU was a good addition, pyro's set was pretty good too in that the degreaser's fast weapon switch made it a lot easier to flame + axtinguisher. Saharan Spy is a new way of playing the spy which I rather enjoy.
Then again, some of the updates just feel incredibly off. They should focus on fixing up some of the hats, fixing up gameplay issues and balancing issues, etc. They need to work on the balancing most of all.
