Valve no longer cares about those who wanted hats. They're basically impossible to get now, thanks to murder of idling. EDIT: give moar boxes (User was banned for this post ("didn't read the rules" - Jimbomcb))
Oh no you have to play the game now. Such a terrible crime Valve has committed.
Wow, no. They INCREASED the drop rates and made it possible for EVERYONE to get hats, not just idlers. I still can't believe people are reacting negatively to this change at all. It's wholly positive and it's geared toward leveling the playing field for all players to have an equal chance at getting items. On top of that, hats are only non-effect cosmetic items made to be rare and fun. Quit whining.
No no no no no... no. They just made a small plateau to your item gain. But they also increased the drop rate.
HAH! I couldn't get a hat even WITH IDLING. No fucking way I am going to get one now. :argh:
HAH! I couldn't get a hat even WITH IDLING. It now rolls for WHEN you WILL get your next drop. You WILL get drops on a regular basis with a regular amount of gameplay. There are no more "unlucky streaks".
OMGEE LETS CRY OVER A STUPID HAT MODEL THAT DOESN NOTHING AT ALL! WHAAAAA! Get over it. Idleing is pointless but shouldn't be banned. I don't care if a guy has 10000 forces of nature, or every drop item, it really doesn't matter.
Idleing is pointless but shouldn't be banned.
It's not banned. It's simply not effective anymore. :v:
Should just remove hats. Not like we're going to get them anymore
Should just remove hats. Not like we're going to get them anymore
Should just add more hats. Not like they really change any gameplay mechanics.
Should just add more hats. Not like they really change any gameplay mechanics.
More hats isn't going to increase the drop rate of hats.
More hats isn't going to increase the drop rate of hats.
Your name is making out how obvious yer a troll :downs: -3/10 on the Troll factor. You aren't trying hard enough.
Idling actually was a good thing for TF2. If people didn't idle then valve would never have increased the drop rate and fixed the "unlucky" streaks.
More hats isn't going to increase the drop rate of hats.
They already increased it, though, and you now have a greater chance of getting a hat than ever before. :downs: I'm just going to leave the argument here as-is because it's going in circles now.

They have increased the drop rate BUT they have also implemented a playtime limit. You play the game and you get drops. However, if you go over the playtime limit (nobody knows what the limit is), let's say its 15 hours per week, you won't get any drops for those overtime hours. On the other hand, unused hours rollover to next week. So, let's say you were busy and you didn't have time to play tf2 this week. Now your next week's playtime limit will be 30 hours (made up numbers) instead of 15hrs. I don't know how you can think this is a bad idea.
here's now a maximum amount of playtime per week in which you get item drops. Playing beyond that amount won't find any more items. The amount varies, but if you play an hour or so a day you're good. Some of your unused time will rollover to the following week, so if you're an intermittent player you'll also be fine.
This could be a good thing. However, I have the worse luck, so it'll take forever for me to find things.

There is no "they don't get an item for this drop". It's "they WILL get an item for this drop and this is the time we're giving it to them". That's what the new system determines as you play.

I was afraid this would be a shit topic when I saw the title. I was correct :(
oh god deja vu
waah no idling now i will never get some colored pixels and polygons :(((((
Oh stop whining. I've been idling non stop for several weeks now, and although it's efficient, I just feel like it's such a pointless waste of electricity, but on the other hand, couldn't stop because of how efficient it is. Now I might have less drops, but at least I can play normally again without being afraid of leaving the game. Before, it really didn't earn me any item drop for months. That's a quite smart way to kill idling, and I personally like it. It's not like we are meant to get one hat every week, right. Now you'll have one hat every month or so, if the drop cap is relatively low, but that's more than fair enough.
10/10 troll, would allow to troll me again [editline]11:53PM[/editline] ...Is what I would say if you were any good at it. I like your avatar though. Yay APNGs. [editline]11:53PM[/editline] On the whole new hats issue, I think it will be good for the game. It'll encourage people to play instead of just standing around.

More like 7-9 hours a week
I've not read the entire thread, but what I don't understand is why people is complaining. If you play like an hour per day, you will get a hat in no time. They just made a higher drop chance, and it will go down the more playtime you have. So idling isn't entirely dead, it's just not efficient anymore. PS: I have idled A LOT.
The only thing that I want is to know when to get the item. Sure, it's no surprise anymore, but it would be like opening a present a day before your birthday, only that you still don't know what you will get. I'm not sure, would I rather get a hat or a weapon for my birthday... Hmm...
