• Give me my fucking framerate back

First of all, I have a Pentium 4 @ 2.80 GHz, an ATI Radeon 9550 Series, and 1 GB of RAM. I know how shit those specs are, but I have been running the game with medium graphic settings at a somehow playable framerate, around 20-25. Well, at least that was before the class updates came out. Then, update after update, my average framerate progressively dropped to around 15 fps. I could still enjoy the Polycount weapons. Until the October 19th update. I don't know what the fuck happened, but my average framerate is now 5. I tried everything, every setting to lowest, every "performance script", giving hl2.exe the highest priority, nothing helps, and the game is just not playable anymore. When running in fullscreen mode, my framerate is somehow decent for the first few seconds, and then instantly drops forever. When running in windowed mode, I can have a decent framerate for about 1 minute, and then it's a complete disaster. For the record, crouching and looking at the ground on 2fort on a completely empty server with every setting to lowest gives me a framerate which varies between 10 and 15 fps. Anyone here with the same problem as mine? It's just unbearable and painful, I can stand losing 1 or 2 fps after every update but this time Valve has gone too far. Provided it's their fault and not mine, but I really haven't done anything special, my average framerate just went from 15 to 5 after a single update.
The Source engine just isn't made for games with the scale of TF2 Look at the amount of content it has to manage, the RAM usage sometimes goes over 1300MB
Valve is planning on doing a performance update in the near future. Robin confirmed it via email a while ago. Just hang tight, they'll get to it. :buddy:
I can run HL2 on my computer, full settings, full everything at about 100 fps. I can barely run tf2 on low resolution, and minimal graphics without it crashing every few minutes.
It's not sure that the problem is related to your hardware. It might be some new code that they implemented that slows everything down. And that means you can't do anything to help it but get a better computer.

I look forward to that more than any other update with items and stuff. Don't get me wrong, I still like the frequent updates.
Have you tried the -heapsize fix?
Have you tried the -heapsize fix?
Yeah, didn't change anything.
Valve is planning on doing a performance update in the near future.
Have you tried the -heapsize fix?
-heapsize never did anything since the Orange Box version of Source was rolled out
Early 2009: 30 to 40 fps, medium. Now: 2 to 25 fps, with an fps config that makes the game look like this:
I, on average get a rollercoster 6-40 fps in TF2. But that's due to my daymn laptop. If you want, I'll glady give you around 5 of my fps to add to yours. It won't be that much of a difference. :3
Have you tried the -heapsize fix?
Isn't that a old command that was removed from Source? Or at least has little to no effect on Source.
I can run HL2 on my computer, full settings, full everything at about 100 fps. I can barely run tf2 on low resolution, and minimal graphics without it crashing every few minutes.
I doubt that. And games don't crash just because it's on a terrible computer.

Most of those configs are fucking awful and change settings that shouldn't be touched without knowing exactly how they will effect your machine.
Weird that all kinds of people always complain about performance issues with TF2. Nothing ever changed for me and I'm satisfied with it, so either I have low standards or a PC from the future.
Until the October 19th update.
Looks like infinite sentries has to come back :sigh:

After updating my video card drivers 5 or 6 months ago, I doubled my fps to 100ish, but it suddenly dropped back into the 40s-50s. It's still sticking around there since the update, but nowhere near where it really should be.
Isn't that a old command that was removed from Source? Or at least has little to no effect on Source.
Adding it as a launch setting command did bloody wonders for me, worked for my buddy's laptop too.
ATI Radeon 9550 Series damn son spend 15 bucks on new egg and get a 4350
Looks like infinite sentries has to come back :sigh:
Agree Valve and the rest are all NO FUN ALLOWED. I think we should do the Multiple Sentries just for shits and giggles
Infinite sentries is fun for a bit, but ruining the fun of the game for everyone else by doing something that totally destroys the balance of the game is just uncool
-heapsize was removed a few updates ago. cheers
The problem lies mostly with new weapon and hat models. They have no LODs and, for example, the Direct Hit, has several times the polygons of the Soldier's model at it's highest LOD. Sort that shit out, valve.

Strange, my frame rate is better.
