• Snipers can hear spies uncloak from too far away

So I'm normally a spy; I've got five times more hours as spy than all other classes combined. Now, I normally play on Orange_x3, and it's not that difficult to get to the other side of the map. I use the C&D. When I go to backstab a sniper, though, unless I'm more than 50 feet away when I uncloak, the WILL turn around and Jarate/Kukri me. No other class can hear me like that (except maybe soldier, for some reason), and it makes it nigh impossible to get the kill. Of course, if there's enough action going on around them (i.e. minigun firing, many explosions, sentry firing), they won't hear me, but there's rarely such an event going on so close to a sniper. Anyone else think that the spy's cloak should be quieted, or the sniper should have his hearing lessened?
It's because the Sniper hardly ever shoots, and can actually listen. All the other classes make noise constantly or are at least moving.
lol orange_x3.
Try uncloaking somewhere that is not directly behind them.

The problem is probably that cp_orange is empty, as in no walls to muffle noise or whatever and a good sniper will always be listening closley
The problem is probably that cp_orange is empty, as in no walls to muffle noise or whatever
I can uncloak in the bottom floor of the tower, and they'll be waiting for me with the kukri on the second.
easy. if you have good hearing like somepeople (like me) you can hear footsteps AND uncloak. 1st of all Sniper is just standing there and hearing bullets penetrate his skin like other class would and not notice you uncloak. so basically they are just standing around and are using nothing else but sight and hearing. also Soldier moves slower than some classes so he is running to the battle and most of the time (if youre good) not rocket jumping the shit out of your health. I got this out of experience. i play solly and sniper alot and notice these things and occasionly tell the spy on the other team that I can hear them when they do certain things. say you are playing heavy or pyro. pyro has that constant slight sound of gas going so makes it kinda unoticalbe that spies are gonna stab them (if they avoid the W+M1) and Heavies will most of the time be turning their minigun so they impair their hearing also. in the end it depends on how much is going on around you and how aware you are of your surroundings. PS I feel gay for typing that all
The problem is that you're using the C&D and not putting bullets into their skull (or torso, if you use the regular revolver).
The problem is that you're using the C&D and not putting bullets into their skull (or torso, if you use the regular revolver).
The main purpose of the spy is to backstab, not headshot with the Ambassador. Also, yes, I use the regular revolver, Ambassador is crap.
That's what your disguise kit is for. Use your watch to get away or get behind lines.
Play a different class.
Play a different class.
Don't listen to this solifag.
As a heavy i generally hear spies uncloak or my medic's loud scream which usually means a backstab. I've pissed off so many spies I hope you were one of them im so cool
The main purpose of the spy is to backstab, not headshot with the Ambassador. Also, yes, I use the regular revolver, Ambassador is crap.
Yes it's a good idea to rush blindly at the people who continously melee you to death in order to fufill your "main purpose".
Don't use the cloak and fagger.
Yes it's a good idea to rush blindly at the people who continously melee you to death in order to fufill your "main purpose".
I do that and usually come out alive to be honest. If you know how to control the player to dodge then it's no problem.
I hate spies, they like never use their revolvers and whenever your having an awesome fight your just dead for no reason then you realize a *skilled* spy has stabbed you. Plus the game has been out for like 3 years so everybody always spy checks so because it is very fucking annoying to learn that you have died by a little faggot who sneaked behind you.
I do that and usually come out alive to be honest. If you know how to control the player to dodge then it's no problem.
It can be done but I still prefer shooting people in the head instead of needlessly endangering myself.
It can be done but I still prefer shooting people in the head instead of needlessly endangering myself.
Only people you're really in risk of doing it from is the ones with shotguns, and engineers because they pull crit wrenches out of their ass every second.
Only people you're really in risk of doing it from is the ones with shotguns, and engineers because they pull crit wrenches out of their ass every second.
Everyone crits when they melee fight me. Everyone. :tinfoil:
Only people you're really in risk of doing it from is the ones with shotguns, and engineers because they pull crit wrenches out of their ass every second.
It seems that 90% of the time, Engies get crit wrenches on me. i think the probability of a crit is increased while you're cloaked.
It seems that 90% of the time, Engies get crit wrenches on me. i think the probability of a crit is increased while you're cloaked.
No, the crit chance is based on how much damage you do. Engies get lots of crits because of their sentry causing lots of damage.
Why are you spying around the tower? Don't do that unless the other team has pushed you back to your last point. Let the heavy classes take that point, and hang around point 4 until a Sniper comes around or, if you're on RED, you can crouch-jump from the railing near BLU's spawn to get in their spawnroom. But I usually wait until nobody sees me and the Sniper fires before decloaking, and I know people will go Soldier just to trap unsuspecting Spies. I know I do.
