High ping giving me an advantage? - Games

So i was playing on StompFest 24/7 2fort last night, an admin went on and after 10 minutes or so and this conversation started (i can't really remember the spelling or exact words, but this is pretty much it): him: "Sam, please lower your ping" me: "I'm from Argentina, this is my normal ping" him: "yeah but it's making everyone lag and making them hard to hit you" someone else: "what are you talking about admin we're not lagging bad and high ping ain't no advantage" other people: "he's right admin, i'm not lagging" him: "ya but it makes it hard for people to hit you" me: "are you trying to say high ping is an advantage wtf I am the one having a hard time to hit people ([I]i mainly use non-hitscan weapons[/I])" him: "k ill give you 5 mins to fix your ping or i'll kick you" me: "WTF ADMIN" 5 minutes later i got kicked. I don't want to sound smug here, but is this "lag gives advantages" real or was the admin butthurt about me dominating him? As i said in chat, the "advantages" it gives (apparently making it harder for people to hit me) should be also balanced with the "disadvantages" it gives me (try to get a huntsman headshot with around 225 ping, it's hard.) Theres a thing called lag compensation. Also if your lag is so high that it makes other people's hits not count, it should also affect you.

I can easily headshot scouts with a Huntsman when my ping is over 300. Or maybe it was just luck, dunno.

well, is 250 miliseconds enough for hits to not register?

It'd have to be around 400+ to get really iffy.

I saw someone with 900 ping once.

Normally i have 160 ping on my favorite servers, and so far i never found an advantage. Try lighting a scout on fire with over 150 ping, today i was flaming a scout at almost point blank and he got away with full health.

I thought the max was 1000.[/QUOTE] In TF2 the max Ping that you can see is 999 and i know that because when i get ddosed my ping goes to 999 for about 3 seconds untill it goes down, during that time i literally can't move

Under 10 ping after I got my internet upgraded and paying less for it Comcast, you're cool.

One of my friends got to 17000 once. It was weird. He got disconnected.

My ping sometimes spikes to 1000+, which can get me kicked if there is a limit.

Ping isn't that great for me, mainly when I get a half a second lagspike every 2 seconds. I can really see it taking effect in l4d2 for example. few hours ago, had 540 ping, charged at nick, just before I hit him I died due to low health before charging. My ragdoll flopped to the ground about 15 feet behind where I was last alive.

From my experience, anyone with a ping over 300 or so becomes much harder to hit, (Especially If they're a fast class like Scout or Medic) They start 'teleporting' from place to place. 225 ping probably isn't high enough to affect things that much, but I have no problems with admins kicking people for high ping. It makes the game less enjoyable for the rest of the players.

You can't lower a game's ping directly, but check if your wireless is screwed up, if you're downloadíng/uploading anything or if somebody uses up all your bandwidth.

I had 1349ms of latency once. My PC was downloading updates. :(

My ping spikes whenever someone else uses my internet for anything.
