How to NOT be a W+M1 Pyro and still kick ass! (Maybe even more!)
This is my tutorial on how to become an awesome Pyro that:
-Your team will love.
-Enemy team will hate.
-NOT W+M1!
General Loadout
In my opinion, this is the layout you should use for ALL circumstances. This guide is based on this layout.
-Flamethrower (Because)
-Shotgun (Flaregun is weak, and without Shotty you have no USEFUL direct attack method. Plus Shotty is good for all ranges.)
-Axtinguisher (You own the shit out of people and it's fucking humiliating for the person you axtinguish.)
Ranges
~When in an open area, have your Shotty as your default weapon.
~When in a closed in area, have your Flamer as your default weapon.
Shoot people at mid-long ranges, and if they get close, change to Flamethrower. Once you have flamed them don't keep doing so. If they retreat, refer to (A). If they stay up close with you refer to (B).
(A)
When an enemy retreats after you have flamed them, shoot them with your fucking Shotgun. The combined damage of the afterburn and the shotgun shells will rip them to pieces.
(B)
When an enemy stays up close after you have flamed them, switch to the Axtinguisher and start swinging. A crit Axtinguisher will most likely kill any class in one hit, except for Heavy which takes two.
Class-Specific Tactics
Pyro
This is why you have the Shotgun. Your Flamethrower is 100% useless against Pyros. If you choose to Flamethrower duel, it'll just be whoever has higher health. Stay a little far from the Pyro, but close enough to make sure all Shotgun shells hit him. You rip him apart in 2-4 shots depending on the circumstances.
Heavy
Heavies can't run away from you. Puff them with one flame then swing at them twice. Bam, they're dead. If the Heavy already has thier Minigun revving, then just circle-strafe them with the Flamer and hope for the best.
Soldiers
You can take two routes depending on your range. If the Soldier is up close, switch to Shotty and try to kill him. If he's far away just piss him off by reflecting his rockets.
Snipers
Close range: Do whatever the fuck you want with them, they're hopeless. Mid-long range: Strafe side to side while shooting them with the shotgun, occasionally ducking and jumping.
Medics
If they shoot at you with a Blutsauger, do your best to strafe them. Remember to either shoot or axe them depenging on range.
Demoman
He'll most likely try to shoot grenades at you until he runs out. Just reflect all his grenades. When he changes to the Sticky Launcher, get back and shoot at him.
Spies
See Sniper section.
Engineer
With Sentry: If it's around the corner, then hug the wall and get in the Sentry's blind spot and just flame the fuck out of it. It WILL die unless it has constant healing. Then just do whatever with the Engi. Without Sentry: Again, do whatever. Laugh while they try to kill you.
Tips
~Airblast puts out fires, USE IT.
~Use taunt to look around corners if you think there might be danger.
~If a Sniper can't see you and you're behind him, look around really quick and Hadouken him.
Yeah, that's it. If you follow this you'll be pretty fucking good.
dont tell people how to play the game please we paid our 20 bucks for it we do what we want
We have a lot of these threads, people who think they are good at a class telling others how to play their class.
It's not gonna convince any of the bad players to change, and it's not gonna help any of the good players get better.
It may or may not help, but I think it's hilarious when people just run into battle with the Flamethrower out.

Also nice reading there.
tip: kill the enemies
I don't like this guide, and

That make no sense

Thanks, I am an adult and I can read about 2 paragraphs of writing pretty fast.
Thank you. I followed all of this advice just as you said, and now I'm a pretty fucking good Pyro, who is loved by his team mates and hated by his enemies.
Learn to use the flaregun, once you're good with it, it's invaluable. The shotgun, once you're good with the flaregun, is basically just for other pyros.
And the flaregun does more damage, two shots and the burn time is enough to kill a normal health class.

No and no.
Flamethrower battles are usually won by whoever has the better knowledge of how to aim their flamethrowers.
I've had fucking 5 HP before against a full health Pyro, and I still won with no damage taken.
As for the medic you either have to run away and hit him a different time, you or have to be smart about it when charging him, seeing as how Pyro's usually die when running into a Medic firing needles.
"Don't use the flaregun"? Even after the insane buff it got?
If you can aim it worth a shit the 30 base damage plus minicrits on previously burned opponents make it a BEAUTIFUL combo. And even if the enemy gets away they are very likely to die. Puff, airblast, when you can't Axtinguish flare the shit out of them. Answer to every situation.
There is a lot of statements in your "guide" that can be argued. Perhaps give better reasons/support instead of saying "this is the way to do it if you want to win cause this is how the game is"
ITT let's turn w+m1 pyros into failpyros
Flaregun 4 Life.

Heavy
He will fucking kill you in a second if you go close range. Also 90% of the time he has a medic with him.
Soldiers
Take out shotty when he has a rocket launcher? No contest.
Snipers
Huntsman is HIGHLY lethal from any range. If you expect afterburn to kill him, jaaaaaaaaaarate.
Medics
Axe a medic? you'll do HALF damage and get your dick handed to you by his ubersaw.
Demoman
2 grenades to the face will kill you AND dont expect to relfect every single grenade. You can only reflect 8 times (when full). Use flaregun at mid range dumbfuck.
Spies
Dead Ringer. Ambassador.
tl;dr, you are the worst pyro in tf2.
Flaregun 4 Life.
Absolutely this.
Screw the shotgun, the flaregun is where it's at. I've racked up numerous kills by hitting people at long distances. Everyday, I go into the tr_walkway and practice my flaregun. That thing is an extension of my soul. I can hit a moving scout at 70 yards. That thing has kept me alive.
I dont really use pyro much, although im gonna start to since soldiers are very annoying and reflecting rockets is actually fun and got today the respectless rubber glove.
But...
I find the shotgun to be better then the flaregun. Its alot faster, and can kill a heavy in like 3 shells or something, if all the pellets hit him. Its awesome for a set fire + retreat and shotgun tactic, and you dont need hawk eyes nor cyborg skills to hit everything flawlessly. Although the mini crits and stuff are very good...
Now I dont know what to use... Flaregun or shotgun? Their both nice to use, but 1 is more practical, and the other could cover more ground.
You sound like a pretty shit pyro, no offense.

Spies and snipers can easily outclass pyros
Snipers with either Jarate or the SMG can take out a Pyro with not much effort.
And the Sniper Rifle isn't that hard to no-scope with.
ultimate pyro: poof everything

To be completely objective, it depends on the map and the style of your play. If you frequent open ground and places where long range is in control and general Pyros are useless, you have a better chance of surviving with the flaregun. you can use use it to suppress enemies that are trying to shoot you, or to surprise your target. The downsides of the flaregun is that it only has one shot, doesn't do much impact damage, hard to lead with and to compensate the drop, and is useless in closequarters.
If you play on tight maps like turbine or junction, the shotgun is best. It's powerful, devastating up close, and can do reasonable damage at medium ranges. the problem lies in the fact that in any CQB fight you get into, you can just use your flamethrower, and get the job done much quicker. It doesn't deal much damage at medium ranges where the flamer can't reach, but is good for softening up your targets. Now, obviously one of it's best uses it against other Pyros, where fire is not useful at all. The counter to this, is you can just use your airblast and flee. But you don't get the kill. Another scenario where the shotty works is when you run out of ammo. Of course if you get as much kills as a good Pyro does, the chances of running out of juice is slim.
The basic argument is that the shotgun is good all around, but there are other choices that permit you to not need it.
The Flaregun is a great defensive weapon. Light up some targets and have the heavy guarding the point shoot them.
As I pyro I like to use the axtinguisher because I burn at close range and axe my enemy a question.
You're more likely to take out a Heavy if you are not a W+M1 Pyro. Just putting that out there from both sides of the fight. If a W+M1 Pyro catches me off guard not spinning but I am on full health, I can full rev and gun them down before I die (if I die).
Why hadn't I thought of this!
Also guys, did you know that Michael Jackson just died?

This is why you have the Shotgun. Your Flamethrower is 100% useless against Pyros. If you choose to Flamethrower duel, it'll just be whoever has higher health. Stay a little far from the Pyro, but close enough to make sure all Shotgun shells hit him. You rip him apart in 2-4 shots depending on the circumstances.
Uh, no.
If he charges you with the flamethrower, whip yours out as well. When he starts getting close, backpedal while shooting. The flame "particles" will go further while you move backwards, while his won't go as far as he moves forwards. More flame hitting him = you win.
Reflecting rockets at Soldier up close is easier to kill him
One should learn how to anticipate when enemies fire their projectile weapons. With practice, you can reliably reflect arrows at point blank range.

Or you could just keep your flamethrower out and run backwards. If he's an idiot he'll chase you and take a lot of damage while you don't get hurt that much.
