Hey guys, here's an idea i farted into the Steam User's forums. I realize it has a bunch of errors, like exploitability, but here goes:(this is the email i sent to Robin) Hello Robin, I am an avid player of TF2, I love Valve for making it and I love to play it. But as you have probably already guessed by now, I have some suggestions for all of you over there working your butts off for us. It has come to the attention of me, and many people at the Steam Forums and definitely you at Valve that many players are dissatisfied with the current system of earning hats. I know this isn't the first email you've received on the subject, but please, hear me out. Many people who would like to have hats, and think the random drop system is too sparse complain of the rarity of hats. I think their biggest problem is that there is never a guarantee they'll get at least one hat. Me and some of my friends have come up with a system to get hats that makes a surefire way that the player will be rewarded for their hard work and time spent with a hat, instead of a chance. The system we came up with is a buy system. The player could purchase hats with currency gotten from selling random weapon drops. For instance, each dropped weapon can be sold for $200, and a hat costs $10,000. Now I think this idea is good, and so do many others in the steam forums and I have one more idea for earning money, and you can delete this email if you want. There could be a possiblity of getting money with ingame events, with the values as follows: Every class: 1 kill = 1$ CP captured = 10$/number of people who capped it Intel secured: 5$ Melee kill (except spy) = 3$ Round win = 20$ Sniper: headshot = 2$ Jarate assist = 1$ Extinguishing fire with jarate = 1$ Backstab blocked = 2$ Spy: Sapper placed = 1$ Backstab = 2$ Ambassador headshot kill = 4$ Medic: Uber = 5$ Also, the medic will take the same a mount of $ that his patient is getting, except if they both secured a CP. Engineer: Teleport used = 1$ Dispenser beeing used for more than 3 second not by the engineer = 3$ Building something = 2$ Destroying something = -2$ (so they won't spam build-destroy-build-destroy) Building level up = 2$ Then, add weapons to that shop and sell them for a low price, like 200$, and hats for a very high price, like 10000$. These values are from a forum guy called Albystro. I personally do not advocate this method because it will lead to farming for bux in servers. Anyways, I have some pictures of what it could look like : http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/ubspaul/saxtonfix.jpg Now here are all that attributed to this (forum names): lorderok, CrisM1, and Albystro. I hope you read this email and keep in mind that this idea is not concrete, but flexible, it can be changed to your desires. I am looking forward to your response, Sincerely, LORD EROK (Steam Friends name) Tell me what you think.
You know those jokes about TF2 being an MMOFPS. Well..
It'd turn into CS:S with the whole "money" thing.
What if you could turn in dupe weapons to up your chance to get a hat? (not permanently, but until you actually get one)
No thank you. I like TF2 the way it is more.
What if you could turn in dupe weapons to up your chance to get a hat? (not permanently, but until you actually get one)
It sounds like a good idea at first, but it would be ridiculous if you got a lot of dups.
And that's why useful emails never make their way to the Valve crew. Their inboxes are always clogged with these useless ideas. Valve already got their own ideas about it. They just take their time to develope it. This sounds way too much like HLXStats, as well. You earned 1$ for killing generic guy! You earned 1$ for killing generic guy! You earned 1$ for killing generic guy! You earned 1$ for killing generic guy!
People would just make servers with around 20 bots and mow them down with the heavy or pyro, then go get the hats. Everyone would have hats.
People would just make servers with around 20 bots and mow them down with the heavy or pyro, then go get the hats. Everyone would have hats.
Or someone will create a plug-in that sends messages to the steam servers that you're killing thousands of people.
Sniper: headshot = 2$ Spy: Ambassador headshot kill = 4$ Tell me what you think.
I don't think that's the way it should be. Even though spy has the capabilities, I don't think he should be rewarded more than the sniper when it comes to headshots. You can take a horse to a car race, but you aren't supposed to do it. That would create a massive amounts of people trying to snipe with the ambassador, while the backstab is one of the most important tools for a spy. You also forgot points for tauntkilling which should be rewareded with 4$ in my opinion (as it's a kill it would round up to 5$ with the 1 kill = 1$) Destroying buildings is also smoething that might be able to be rewarded, even though two people can easily exploit this by having a engineer and spy from different teams cooperating on point harvesting. Engy's still have the possibility of building something and upgrade it fully (6$) then destroy it (-2$) that gives the engy 4$ in total. As the engy has 4 buildables he can earn 16$ in a decent rate. He could also leave the dispenser standing and spam and build his other stuff (2 tele and 1 sentry = 12$) A patient guy like me would end up doing that.
Farming = $$$
Terrible idea, too exploiteable.
No. terrible idea if valve installs this honestly, im not playing tf2 again. and most of my friends wont be either most likely will be left with all the rpg/mmo lovers
fine then
Valve wanted to stop farming when they released achievements, so what makes you think that Valve will think of this...?
Destroying something = -2$ (so they won't spam build-destroy-build-destroy)
Way to fuck over mobile engineers. [editline]10:45AM[/editline] Also, silly idea, I do not like it.
Why does building something get more points than killing someone?
Way to fuck over mobile engineers. [editline]10:45AM[/editline] Also, silly idea, I do not like it.
They would neither gain, nor earn points whe moving due to earning 2$ for building and losing 2$ destroying, they would therefor: A) Don't care about it since the sentry will gain kills and earn money B) Upgrade it, so they earn their 2$ beofre moving on
this should only work if your in a server with six or more people or something like that then if you did farm you could only farm with a group and not just 2 people also it should only befor hats and stuff not game-changing weapons
What is this, an MMO?
No, hats should be more a more common drop, I only get bonk, ubersaws and other shit.
What is this, an MMO?
it's almost an mmo, we just need a purchase system, character levels, and for those weapon levels to do something.
This would be an MMO if the game was actually MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE. Rpg elements do not equal an MMO.
Also a spy could just sap a building, "destroy 4", sap again, "destroy 4", sap again.... I sometimes do that anyway, it's really fun when an engineer with mic scream: "WTF IS HAPPENING TO MY SENTRY!!??".
This game is technically an MMO. MMORPG however, it is not.

I can't remove the sapper, my sentry is still rotating and reacting, but it won't shoot.
soo you only win money in a game with 15+ players :P
What is this, an MMO?
Well, I'm already seeing people complain about people grinding Achievement_Idle. Because it'll ruin the "Economy" when trading comes out. I don't want a god-damn economy, I want to wear silly hats :gonk:
Could work... but hats should only cost 100$
By the time you earned that amount of money to buy a hat you would of got one in the random drop system....
