this might have been thought of before but, imagine a flamethrower with no airblast but instead, could pour the gas from his flamethrower on the ground, then light the trail of gas to create a wall of fire. This basicly will make the pyro more defense with an ability to stop enemy pushes as well as set traps with his flare gun.

Every idea that gets posted, has at least one guy that says 'send it to Robin.' It's no wonder he only answers like a third of the mail he gets, if everyone is constantly sending him their ideas. This needs to be fleshed out more before it can be sent.
It's interesting, I'll give you that.
I think it would have a lot of bugs. There's some similar weapon for Gmod, but even though most of the bugs with it occur because the gas can be put on players and props; I think it would have a lot of them.
Anyway, it could be really fun, at least the way I imagine it.
Everyone seems to have this idea. I've seen it so many times over the years I've lost count.
Regardless, could be a good idea, as long as it's implemented well.

Sounds like a great idea to me. He, ahem, Pyro could pour some highly flammable liquid onto the floor using his flame ammo (or a separate ammo)and then ignite it, so that any enemy running into will take damage as if they were standing in the Pyro's flamethrower. Would be balanced as it wouldn't last forever, and it would only work in small areas, or as a trap. Also I'm sure that an airblast/jarate would remove it.
-Reduced Direct Flame
-Practically no afterburn
Gas evaporates after 20-30 seconds
Gas can be lit to create WALL OF PAINFUL FIRE
Gas Identified by mist/dark spots on ground
It could be interesting, if they can make it work.

you mean the flamethrower thats in alien vs predator? the one that empties gasoline onto the floor then burns when ignited
This is a REALLY good idea IMO. Very interesting. Perhaps it could stop spies from entering an engie's base. As long as the pyro's there to replace the trail every time it goes out. However, I would recommend that it would use fire ammo and A LOT of it, so that it takes a while to set it up. Otherwise, they could just run through a tunnel and drop it behind them to stop enemies.

Mabye give the gas a small amount of time before it can be set on fire, like the Scottish Resistance for the demoman. It would increase the use of it for traps rather then escapes, plus, people mostly just play the pyro by running head long into the enemy, rather then retreat.
I was thinking that you would douse enemies with napalm, which would increase afterburn damage and length, but reduces max ammo to 100.

Who will then shortly explode. The Pyro that ignited the Demo corpse will have the explosion damage the opposing team. So, a RED/BLU Pyro that ignites A RED/BLU Demoman corpse will damage the BLU/RED team, which is the same thing for a BLU/RED Demoman.

Another flamerthrower, that uses fuel instead of gas, a napalm flamer
less damage, more afterburn due to the sticky fuel, you can launch fuel with mouse2 and also a longer range.
the fuel can be lit with bullets or fire, and can be extinguished by airblast and jarate.

Actually, unreal 2 : the awakening had a very similar flamethrower.
You could also shoot the napalm without igniting it, and then set it on fire.
