• Windows 7 TF2 Trouble

Howdy, I recently finished installing Windows 7 and I successfully installed Steam and TF2. However, whenever I attempt to launch TF2, it simply displays a white box and plays the audio for the Valve video, then closes immediately. Can anybody think of a solution to my problem? By the way, I am in fact well aware that Windows 7 isn't officially supported by TF2, but that hasn't stopped all my friends from playing TF2 on their Win7 computers. EDIT: Problem solved, I installed new drivers and it works now. Thanks to all who offered suggestions!
I get the same thing, but TF2 still opens. Check the task bar, and if it's not there, check the task manager.

If I have -novid set as a launch parameter, it simply opens and closes very quickly.
Try running it in compatibility mode?

I'd suggest if so to wait until you get to the title screen before alt-tabbing at all. EDIT: Best bet is that's not the trouble, is to probably wipe out the whole directory (after saving whatever files you want, ie sprays) and reinstalling. IT shouldn't hurt too badly.
Disable the Valve video by adding -novid to the TF2 launch options. See if that helps anything.

im using 7 and having no trouble at all. have you fully updated your drivers etc with 7 compatible versions?
Me too just upgraded to Windows 7 and had no problems installing and playing Team Fortress 2. Like Meat said, make sure you haven't forgotten to install any drivers because everything compatible with Vista should pretty much be compatible with Windows 7.
seems like Win7 is jesus of OS atm except for games :( hope they fix it
I had a similar problem twice, what I did to solve it were to try to set into fullscreen mode by using the command line, -fullscreen. The other time I needed to validate the game files. I hope this will help you :)
This happens when the resolution is greater than the max output of your monitor/gpu. Go to my games, rightclick tf2 and in launch properties, type -w #### -h ####, specifying your resolution.
Hmm, can't say I saw this problem in the RC or Full versions, and I played TF2 in W7 a lot. Do you have the latest drivers for your card? Most companies have jumped on the Windows 7 Bandwagon and churned out updated drivers.
Before I begin acknowledging the suggestions, let me thank you for the responses. I saw similar threads in the Steam forums that instantly devolved into "Windows7 = Vista?".
Try running it in compatibility mode?
I've tried that, setting hl2.exe to run in compatibility mode causes Steam to say TF2 is unavailable. I haven't tried the -fullscreen yet, I'll give that a shot.
This happens when the resolution is greater than the max output of your monitor/gpu.
Try updating your drivers!
I haven't explicitly done this yet. I had assumed that since everything had been working fine for the other programs on my computer, it would be fine. I'll try that once I get home.

Ah, problem solved. It was, as many pointed out, the graphics drivers.
I was going to say graphics drivers then I read the thread
