I've always just deleted them, if I have some money that I can blow on a key or two I'll keep a crate around.
What number are they?
I just gave out over 700 crates this past weekend, it's like getting rid of herpes. FEELS GOOD.
Also, curiously enough, when you are giving away shit for free, people are actually grateful enough that they'll give you some items in return. I got like close to 1 refined worth of items back. If you try to be a greedy trader and shout: "100 crates for 1 refined!", then nobody would bite.

You can't yet. Now you can only sell crates, tags, paints and keys.
