Remember a time before the hat frenzy? Idling? Trading spam on the chat/voice? We do. We developed this to get back to the core roots of what made TF2 great. What is it? Vanilla TF2 is no new game type. Original maps, stock weapons, no hats, 24 players, no frills. Ridiculously Vanilla TF2 takes this a step further. We aim to go back to before the updates to what we feel is the core of what TF is. We've been with TF since QW. QWTF, Weapons Factory, TFC, et cetera. We've been tehre, done that, and have the T-shirt. Here is a list of the current changes we made so far: Removed Non-Stock Weapons Removed Hats Prevents Duels Removed Found Text Removed Trade Text Removed Taunt-Kills Removed crits at round end Engineer: Disabled engineer's ability to pick up sentry, teleporter, dispenser Engineer: Disabled Dispencer upgrade past level 1 Engineer: Disabled Teleporter upgrade past level 1 Spy: can no longer regen cloak using Ammo Boxes Spy: can no longer use enemy teleporter Spy: can no longer use metal from exploded engineer buildings to regen cloak Soldier: Increase rockets to 36 (default 20) (feb 28 2008 update) Demoman: Inc 30 stick 40 nades (feb 28 200 update) Pyro: Removed Pyro AirBlast (added during pyro update) Pyro: Increased Pyro Dmg 20% (apr 28 2010 update) Pyro: Increasted burn duration to 10 sec (apr 28 2010 update) HWG: Minigun spin-up/down time increased by 25% (apr 28 2010 update) This is just the beginning, and what we feel is a good first step. We love TF and we hope you love our project as much as we do. So we invite you to check it out, give us your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback! We've already hosted a couple of servers, one being 24/7 2fort, and the other a rotational server. It is a server side only mod, so join on in, check out our project page as well as our steam community! Thanks! http://www.richanderson.net/tf2/ xposted
Good. Everyone who dislikes the update can stop bitching now.
Whats the fun now, seriously? If you want to play vanilla, go play tf2 pirated version, it is pretty much vanilla already. (User was banned for this post ("Suggesting warez" - SteveUK))
Removed crits at round end
IIRC humiliation was with TF2 since the beginning. At least, that's what I remember from buying the Orange Box for the 360.
IIRC humiliation was with TF2 since the beginning. At least, that's what I remember from buying the Orange Box for the 360.
To be more precise, the crit effect was removed, not the crits itself.
Whats the fun now, seriously? If you want to play vanilla, go play tf2 pirated version, it is pretty much vanilla already.
Are you retarded?
Too vanilla for me. Sorry, but they made some, maybe even most of those changes for a reason. I can't play spy without getting to pick up ammo boxes.
Whats the fun now, seriously? I remember some guy posted here that pirated version can use offline backpack so you can have all items you want. Also good job OP!
Alright i get off of this thread. opinions and BAM box spam.
Alright i get off of this thread. opinions and BAM box spam.
Opinions? You're telling people to pirate TF2 which I'm pretty sure wouldn't work online.
Alright i get off of this thread. opinions and BAM box spam.
You got rated dumb because you told people to go play a pirated game.
tbh, there were alot of updates that actually made the gameplay 100x better, like the airblast. if you removed the airblast, that would make it even harder to play as pyro. i'd just remove the bad updates
tbh, there were alot of updates that actually made the gameplay 100x better, like the airblast. if you removed the airblast, that would make it even harder to play as pyro. i'd just remove the bad updates
The flamethrower does 20% more damage in vanilla.
^ Indeed, same with the spy picking up metal to recharge his cloak.
-snip-
^ Indeed, same with the spy picking up metal to recharge his cloak.
Then that would be insanely hard for being good spy. And pretty much useless
He can still do that with the old spy watch.
Spy: can no longer regen cloak using Ammo Boxes
6 pipe bombs! instead of 4
-snip-
Which makes playing spy much harder, same goes for picking up metal from destroyed buildings. There's some updates that were pretty much necessary, but I agree there have been totally worthless ones. One including the nerf on the sandwich.
What? I do it all the time while I run cloaked. It doesn't work with the Cloak and Dagger though.
Read the godamn OP. We're talking about that gamemode he's making, not normal tf2
Read the godamn OP. We're talking about that gamemode he's making, not normal tf2
Oh I thought I clicked on a different thread. Whoops.
This is great! As much as I like the new updates and how much TF2 has progressed over the years, I still kinda miss the old TF2 :smith:
Too vanilla for me, it makes Engineer and Spy way too hard to play with. With this...
Removed Hats Removed Misc Items Removed Action Items Removed Found Text Removed Craft Text Removed Trade Text
... it would be perfect for me.
HWG: Minigun spin-up/down time increased by 25% (apr 28 2010 update)
My favorite part. I don't know how I feel about it going completely vanilla - stuff like upgradeable teles, and refilling cloak with ammo really rounded out the classes.
There is vanilla, then there is dumb, this sides more on the dumb portion of the two. Sure it would be interesting to replay TF2 as it was launch day, with most of the default weapons having little to no real balance and being useless in almost all situations but what they were made for. But hey, that's fun and nostalgic right :downs: If you want to do this right, just remove all class unlockables, hats, trading, etc. Keep the new non-themed and commonly agreed as good maps, and keep most of the balance changes like the airblast and the minigun spin up/down adjustment. Removing the Spy cloak refilling wouldn't do too much harm, but it would make Spy near impossible to cloak about with efficiently again. There is no need to remove the stock weapon balance changes.
Whats the fun now, seriously? I showed them, don't worry. Executed every last one of them
I understand that making this ridiculously vanilla can be pretty disadvantageous to certain classes and remove some of the variety that the PC version's updates continuously introduced, but some people wanted a mode as original as possible, so I say just make two separate types: this one, for those who truly want it, and an amended version for those who feel that some aspects of the game are essential to keep.
By the way...
We've been with TF since QW. QWTF
...we would need a Vanilla version of Quake Team Fortress too, the addition of 2fort and the Heavy, Engineer, Spy and Civilian classes was a huge game breaker and the really hardcore fans would be offended if they are not counted in, right?
Mjeh.. I was happy when I saw this thread, however I lost some of that happiness when I noticed you had also removed some of the changes that were basically improvements to the old weapons. Not being able to upgrade the dispensers and teleporters, not being able to refill the cloak, not being able to use teleporters a spy and not being able to airblast removes parts of the game that were vast improvements in usefulness and fun playing those classes.
